Hye all! I'm new here and I'm going to report duty at Petronas KLCC on this coming 1st April. I just want to ask, whether anyone here knows about the jobscope of petroleum economics, as I got the offer in that field. Thanks in advance! smile.gif

Petroleum Economics is fun smile.gif

You need to know the details of the PSC arrangements and then you need to know how much oil/gas that the field will produce and then you need to come up with the IRR after taking into account the CAPEX and OPEX and see if you can get over the hurdle rate. You also will have to look at the matrix in terms of which portfolio the company should pursue and which one they should drop based on all the analysis I mentioned previously. I'm a geologist but I find Petroleum Economics fascinating ....

hi bros.. ive heard of vacancy here and there and in petronas, but for some reason, i've never get any reply from petronas, not to say interview. ive applied as majority would do in discoverpetronas but i really wonder if my "released profile" has gotten any reviews. i might possesed decent pointer (only 2.9 in fact) in geology and a few months experience in mudlogging.
i wanted to develop a skill in data segment, softwares and so far i only know "geoscientist/physicist/petrophysicist" are the positions for that. i wonder if im deemed unworthy to get the position or at least SI for petronas.

azeraeil brother, what do u recommend, should i quit my current mudlogging job and wait patiently or just continue working 1st ?

Hey guys,

Please enlighten me..

I'm wondering if there is a job for IT in Petronas because i did my research and failed get any information regarding this. Fortunately, they take IT students for their intership programmes but not for job?

I think now iPerintis is wholly owned by Petronas. Maybe you can apply through iPerintis.

hey guys,

I was told my job will be in DD in KLCC.

Currently I am waiting for my medical checkup letter to arrive.

I was wondering what do mechanical engineers actually do in DD? Like design stuff or mostly paperwork stuff.(sorry my first job so quite blur)

Also do they travel alot?

Because I was planning to get a room with nearby lrt so that I can commute to KLCC and dont have to purchase a car.

Never ever leave a job while you apply for another job. I never like to be in that kind of position. Keep trying but do not leave your current mudlogging job. Whatever experiences you get doing mudlogging will be usefull in the future.

I remembered it being separated from the PE Skill group previously or maybe it was just the unit in PCSB that was separated. I would suspect that it will be under SG-10 so you should be in Tier 1 (if they still have that tier thingamagic), I've heard of a lot of policy changes lately that is causing some distress amongst staff.

I am sad to see another young top talent leaving Petronas and move to another oil player. Her position being offered is just senior engineer (her current position in Petronas is manager with just 6 yrs exp) but yet the pay offered by another oil player is double.

Disappointed to PETRONAS HR policy, why cant Petronas keep the good people?

Yes, more to design and HUC (Hook Up Commissioning). Project based. Traveling frequency based on job requirement.

Bro, the post you mentioned is too broad, you can have a few positions under production planning so we might not be able to help you unless you specify your position.
But PMO is an operation, it is under PCSB.

Oh okay, thanks for the info. I have seen petroleum economics is bound under petroleum engineering in discoverpetronas.com. So, I'm wondering whether petroleum economics is as the same level as other petroleum engineering field such as reservoir, drilling and others, because petroleum economics is not as critical as those other fields in PE.

It is very very difficult. By the time I left the company, close to 1500 technical professionals had already gone. Even Shell/ExxonMobile cannot compete with the likes of the Middle East NOCs. It's not just Petronas.

There is nothing much Petronas can do.

hi there..

just wondering, it is background of study or your work determine which tier you end up with? ie, let say i am PE student and end up in planning team like turnaround team, so which tier will it be considered?
p/s: last time i have chit chat session, they told me the work they offered me is under tier 1, so i guess the tier things still there smile.gif
