Maybe.....or...more likely.....This is the main reason why devs are having a hard time porting to NS
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-03-...-more-expensive

"Well, we've heard that the cost of manufacturing a Nintendo Switch game is higher than the cost of making a PS4, PC or Xbox One game, because the cartridges the Switch uses cost more to make than Blu-ray discs."

"But why would a Nintendo Switch game cost more on the Nintendo eShop? Digital games, after all, are just a download. There's no need to factor in costly cart manufacture with an eShop game. Well, we've heard that Nintendo's policy is that Switch eShop games should cost the same as their physical versions, in a bid to keep bricks and mortar shops on-side. A shop such as GAME, for example, is unlikely to go all in on a Switch game if you can download it for half the price instead."

"So, we end up in a situation such as Rime, where the game costs £39.99 on Nintendo Switch physical and digital, when the PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions cost just £29.99 physical and digital.

"Rime isn't the only game to suffer from this problem, by the way. Puyo Puyo Tetris, from publisher Koch, costs £34.99 on Nintendo Switch both physically and digitally. It costs £24.99 on PS4."

I don't think that devs hate NS, I think it's just Nintendo shooting themselves in the foot again.

This is a very classic Nintendo move though. What's weird in this whole situation is cartridge based gaming is not a new thing, granted that past console always uses 4~8gb max cartridge, but damn, charging $10 extra for each cartridge seems too much. Also not only Rime is charging that extra $10, the release date for Switch is also pushed back to an undisclosed date.

Here is some extra tid bit from the article.

"We've also heard that the cost of the cart depends on the size of the cart. Switch game card carts come in a variety of capacities: 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. At a high level, the bigger the cart the more expensive it is, although the price may vary according to print run (lower the volume, higher the price, for example - an issue that may affect indie developers who don't expect to shift a huge number of copies of their game)."

So it can cost more than just £10 with bigger AAA games.

Again, with 3ds and vita, I'm sure there is always a price difference depending on the cart requested, it's not a new concept at all. AAA company usually can eat that cost themselves and this tends to be a bigger problem for indie developers wanting to release physical because technically speaking Nintendo or the publisher of the game should absorb the cost. Plus third party AAA games today are at least 40~50gb, rarely seen anything smaller than that. Further retracts third party from porting their game because they would either have to request the company to pay for the extra cost OR they have to spend a lot of effort to optimize the size exclusively for switch. There's only two types of games that is small today, first party developed games and indie games.

Now things get interesting!

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1363323

RAINWAY announced: Third party eShop app for streaming PC games to your Switch.....if Nintendo allows this that is. You know how much a stickler Big N is with its closed system.

Saw this just now, very skeptical about it. They said it will be available in eShop, so I assume they at least got an approval? Still think Nintendo will reject them in the last minute.

Whoever preordered MK8D, any specific site like lazada, gemfive or whatever with discount code to pull down the price?
I have left over RM20+ points in Impulse, so if don't have any special discount code might just get it from them.

With all the Switch sales, and thirst for AAA games, I guess the first ones to deliver will win sales. Once they publish amazing sales figures, hopefully other devs will follow suit. I feel like there's a 'wait and see' attitude so far among the devs.

I prefer to get digital for MK8D since it will be easier to play them on the go laugh.gif
easily play no need to find the catridge, and seems like the game is the game that will be played in a long time biggrin.gif

That's true, but i'd rather save storage also just for eshop games and updates. Also missing the physical stuff for collection.

But yeah the convinience is no need to swap cartridges. Which could be a big deal for some

I know! swapping cartridge is really painful. Often it discourages me to play certain game because of how lazy I am. But Switch cases and artwork are so gorgeous I just need them.

Also yea, the fact that Switch is not 1tb... I don't plan on wasting money getting SD card then buy games from US store at a much higher price.

True, but for the mk8D , the possiblity of having that pn the go everywhere is too tempting for me
