Go and search for SVI Cloud or EVPAD 5S or 5P.
It has a variety of movies, dramas, and live channels (e.g. TV1, NTV7, Astro, etc. etc.)

True that..I know the feels.. Thanks for soundproofed walls.. sweat.gif .. What you need instead is to invest in one of these..

Ugreen Bluetooth 4.2 Transmitter & Receiver...While in TX mode, it can simultaneously connect and output audio to 2 Bluetooth audio devices at the same time. This is an advantage for when 2 people possess their own Bluetooth earphones (or separate speakers) and would like to listen to the same audio. Both can listen with both ears covered for full stereo (and pseudo surround sound effect) as opposed to sharing a pair of wireless earbuds. Or you could check this out too...Ugreen Bluetooth 5.0 Receiver Audio Adapter (APTX). Either should be good.. Depending on which you get, just connect to TV or box and Bluetooth away. Can cease your hunt for aptx ll box.. We probably won't ever see one.

Can checkout my reviews...It's web-dl mkv.. Decent copy but not as demanding as proper 1:1 HEVC bluray or BDMV.. The Beelinks and Mecool I've reviewed will handle this without stuttering. Although for the ultimate "fool-proof" no stuttering? You might want a rooted device with AFRd support. Not necessary but hey... Links here in this thread and down in signature.

You already have an Android OS powered TV. IMO, what you should seek first is a service that allows you to watch your shows with your TV. It's when you find a service that works well on a box but not on your TV? Then you should find external box.

Yeah... It is, as it's not a priority at all for manufacturers or most consumers.

True but Err.. This would defeat the whole point of being wireless..I’ve transitioned to using Bluetooth earphones for most of my listening off mobile devices. Even those held in my hands in bed. Just not needing to worry about cables is quite liberating. Can be listening, get up and walk to another room even or the fridge. No need to pause or unplug.. sweat.gif

Yeah... Should first find apps to run directly on the TV. It’s if there’s a particular one one really likes that doesn’t run well on the tv, but runs well on external box? Then can invest in other box. Else, probably waste money only.

I typically use VLC & Kodi on Android.. AFAIK, such an option has not been implemented in either. On PC, VLC (via addons) can be "programmed" to skip intros. You can set & load up different profiles for different shows. Thankfully, such isn't annoying to me.. I like to listen GOT intro song.. haha

Dear All Sifu,

I need some guidance from you all as I have no idea what is TV box or android TV.

I want to cancel my Astro later after i moving to my new house, now have few questions:
1) It is this TV box like himedia or minix (both highly recommend) is same function like those evpad?
2) This himedia or minix tv box also can stream many free movie and drama?
3) Does this himedia or minix TV box have many Chinese show? I can't just subscribe Netflix because not much Chinese drama as my parents watch Chinese show a lot
4) If purchase a android TV. It is same function as the TV box? This I personally don't think so as many apps need side load can't just search from google apps store and download on it. Correct me if I wrong.

I really hope can get some TV box + subscribe netflix can replace Astro and suitable for my parents. I

Appreciate for all the advice and guidance first notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Android TV box like SVICloud, EVPad, UBox come with live TV & VOD proprietary app that can only be installed in their own box. Both this app (live TV & VOD) serve thousand live channel and VOD for movie/drama/variety/kids/etc plus xxx channel. You also can install any android app or apk into this box like Kodi/ICDrama/RssPlayer/etc. For himedia/minix tv box, also can install any android app or apk but the problems only on you need to find free and stable streaming app (mostly app need to pay subsriptions fee or VIP fees to enjoy live TV and VOD). In Malaysia, you need to subsribe to VPN as well coz a lot of streaming app contents have been blocked here. So for hassle free, just buy Android TV box like SVICloud, EVPad or Ubox and use the box proprietary app to watch live channel and VOD. I can guarantee easy to use even for older parents as my family also using it without any problems. Only some hiccups are on picture quality as you cannot compare the picture quality with astro (HD/4k) and also channel stability (most of the time ok). But picture quality still near to HD or Bluray quality. You only need to spend one time fee range from 400 to 600 depend on model to buy those box, no monthly or yearly commitment. Mine already using it for 2-3 years and the box and app still can be operating.

TLDR.... be good son and keep Astro for parents.. Skip Android OS powered TVs and instead get other type...Boxes are can be much more or less.. Own effort required or you pay others to do effort.

Hi, we need you to first understand this.. There is no such thing as a "TV Box" like your Astro decoder is. TBH, nothing on offer right now will be able to beat the ease and reliability of an Astro decoder & service combo. Anyone who tells you otherwise is blowing water only. We can try to replicate it as close as we can. But it isn't exact. This is what some box brands like EVPAD, SVI Cloud, or the hundreds of other illegal (we call em "ehem") IPTV & VOD service providers out there are trying to do. When parents are concerned? I would recommend just letting them have that Astro convenience. Especially if they are satisfied with it and you don't live with them to immediately attend to issues that might crop up with ehem services. If they aren't satisfied and or you still want to proceed with getting an Android box? Let's tackle your questions then.

1. Yes, both Minix & HiMedia are reputable brands. Plenty other reputable brands out there too. Tanix, Beelink, Nvidia, Xiaomi, Wetek, Mecool, etc. There's Apple TV too if you want to explore outside Android. As above, devices from these manufacturers don't perform like an "EVPAD box". But then an EVPAD box is just some generic box the company had made and slapped their branding on it. Think of TM Unifi's box.. It's just hardware with branding. Key difference is that folks like EVPAD ship out as a pre-configured box, while the other brands do not. EVPAD all make the process easier and UI is slightly more intuitive for even older folks to learn.. Provided they want to and no mind learning. The higher cost of entry is basically you paying them to handle the stuffs you don't want to worry about...much.. Astro still rules over them though. If you bought other normal (not pre-configured) boxes, it's up to you to install and setup as you wish. It's quite easier than you think.. To get an idea? Check out my reviews.. Text & videos available. By the end, you should have an idea of what non-EVPAD type boxes can do.

2. Simple answer is Yes. Like #1 answer.. You just have to put in some time.. Install this app, that app, and boom.. You are all set to watch IPTV, VOD, etc..

3. Nope.. Minix ships as stock Android as possible. HiMedia does the same but with some proprietary stuff bundled in... Mostly for better playback and increased HD audio compatibility. I agree, subbing to Netflix alone won't be sufficient. You will have to install some other app to enjoy more Chines shows. Plenty free and paid services to choose from. You can Google or browse around the forums for some decent options. If going the paid route, some services will offer a trial period. Take advantage of that or just sub for a month to test it out. If happy? then renew your sub.. Typically the longer you sub in advance? The cheaper the monthly cost.

4. Yes and No. Personally, I wouldn't recommend such. Well, unless you are getting some top of the line model from Sony or Sharp. Even then, i still prefer and strongly recommend buying a nice non-Android OS powered TV. Samsung (QLED tech) & LG (OLED King) remain my current top picks. TCLs are nice but just the latest models IMHO... Basically, you want a TV with that proprietary OS that at minimum supports Netflix & YouTube up to 4K UHD. Seriously, don't make that mistake now of getting a TV that doesn't at least do both legit. This way you can let the TV handle those 2 and do what it does best...Display images. HDR, DV, DA, etc all is extra features that are also nice to have. External boxes,...you don't like or latest faster better model released? you can cheaply upgrade every year or anytime you want. TVs? not so much.. sweat.gif

Hope the above gives you some clarity. Normally, will just scream go read first page and last few pages. Return when wiser.. but today good mood.. laugh.gif Still do that though.. TS did good job on it and info is still relevant for newbies.

We even have to help our parents to diagnose issue if Astro decoder fails, what's more for a TV box? sweat.gif I will stick to Astro for my parents as they are not technology savvy at all.

Sorry...Didn't test MX Player Pro at all.. I'm not even sure there's an ATV OS version. Guess that has to go on the list... Did you get the arm-v7a version from their website? Try re-downloading or perhaps give the arm64-v8aa try. And if that still doesn't work, try the apk below. It's the non-pro version, but should be specifically for ATV 10 OS. It's from apk.support as per my last video.
MX Player v1.31.3.apk

Nice to see that others work as intended.. Does Astro Go work well on it? How about UnifiTV ATV app?. I did a format and it surprisingly the app loaded without issues.. Didn't test the playback as couldn't login. Apparently, there are 2 different login types. Number/FB OR username which ends with @iptv. I had the former and thus couldn't sign into the ATV app.
