Dear All Sifu,
I need some guidance from you all as I have no idea what is TV box or android TV.
I want to cancel my Astro later after i moving to my new house, now have few questions:
1) It is this TV box like himedia or minix (both highly recommend) is same function like those evpad?
2) This himedia or minix tv box also can stream many free movie and drama?
3) Does this himedia or minix TV box have many Chinese show? I can't just subscribe Netflix because not much Chinese drama as my parents watch Chinese show a lot
4) If purchase a android TV. It is same function as the TV box? This I personally don't think so as many apps need side load can't just search from google apps store and download on it. Correct me if I wrong.
I really hope can get some TV box + subscribe netflix can replace Astro and suitable for my parents. I
Appreciate for all the advice and guidance first

TLDR.... be good son and keep Astro for parents.. Skip Android OS powered TVs and instead get other type...Boxes are can be much more or less.. Own effort required or you pay others to do effort.
Hi, we need you to first understand this.. There is no such thing as a "TV Box" like your Astro decoder is. TBH, nothing on offer right now will be able to beat the ease and reliability of an Astro decoder & service combo. Anyone who tells you otherwise is blowing water only. We can try to replicate it as close as we can. But it isn't exact. This is what some box brands like EVPAD, SVI Cloud, or the hundreds of other illegal (we call em "ehem") IPTV & VOD service providers out there are trying to do. When parents are concerned? I would recommend just letting them have that Astro convenience. Especially if they are satisfied with it and you don't live with them to immediately attend to issues that might crop up with ehem services. If they aren't satisfied and or you still want to proceed with getting an Android box? Let's tackle your questions then.
1. Yes, both Minix & HiMedia are reputable brands. Plenty other reputable brands out there too. Tanix, Beelink, Nvidia, Xiaomi, Wetek, Mecool, etc. There's Apple TV too if you want to explore outside Android. As above, devices from these manufacturers don't perform like an "EVPAD box". But then an EVPAD box is just some generic box the company had made and slapped their branding on it. Think of TM Unifi's box.. It's just hardware with branding. Key difference is that folks like EVPAD ship out as a pre-configured box, while the other brands do not. EVPAD all make the process easier and UI is slightly more intuitive for even older folks to learn.. Provided they want to and no mind learning. The higher cost of entry is basically you paying them to handle the stuffs you don't want to worry about...much.. Astro still rules over them though. If you bought other normal (not pre-configured) boxes, it's up to you to install and setup as you wish. It's quite easier than you think.. To get an idea? Check out my reviews.. Text & videos available. By the end, you should have an idea of what non-EVPAD type boxes can do.
2. Simple answer is Yes. Like #1 answer.. You just have to put in some time.. Install this app, that app, and boom.. You are all set to watch IPTV, VOD, etc..
3. Nope.. Minix ships as stock Android as possible. HiMedia does the same but with some proprietary stuff bundled in... Mostly for better playback and increased HD audio compatibility. I agree, subbing to Netflix alone won't be sufficient. You will have to install some other app to enjoy more Chines shows. Plenty free and paid services to choose from. You can Google or browse around the forums for some decent options. If going the paid route, some services will offer a trial period. Take advantage of that or just sub for a month to test it out. If happy? then renew your sub.. Typically the longer you sub in advance? The cheaper the monthly cost.
4. Yes and No. Personally, I wouldn't recommend such. Well, unless you are getting some top of the line model from Sony or Sharp. Even then, i still prefer and strongly recommend buying a nice non-Android OS powered TV. Samsung (QLED tech) & LG (OLED King) remain my current top picks. TCLs are nice but just the latest models IMHO... Basically, you want a TV with that proprietary OS that at minimum supports Netflix & YouTube up to 4K UHD. Seriously, don't make that mistake now of getting a TV that doesn't at least do both legit. This way you can let the TV handle those 2 and do what it does best...Display images. HDR, DV, DA, etc all is extra features that are also nice to have. External boxes,...you don't like or latest faster better model released? you can cheaply upgrade every year or anytime you want. TVs? not so much..
Hope the above gives you some clarity. Normally, will just scream go read first page and last few pages. Return when wiser.. but today good mood..

Still do that though.. TS did good job on it and info is still relevant for newbies.
