I've been using U9-h for quite sometime now and I'm really fed up with everything. No new firmware; seems product support stopped, no Netflix UHD, the "fake wifi" option is buggy, etc.

Now contemplating on getting Shield, but it's almost 2 years since the refreshed version released. Anyone know if I should proceed with current Shield, or wait for maybe a new refreshed version coming this year?

I plan to buy himedia q10 pro. I have few question want to ask your opinion
1. A brand named Egreat. How is it compare to himedia?
2. Which IpTV provider deliver 1080p resolution or higher? (I'm fine on the yearly fees)

My TV size is 60'' with maxis 30mbps Fiber broadband.
*
A.. HiMedia is better.. No contest..
B.. Go out and seek yourself.. We don't discuss such in here. Not even iFlix, Astro or UnifiTV (legit providers) offers in 1080p.. Doesn't mean ehem sources don't have too.. But can't be discussed..

No love from custom FW?? Also, if you are fed up by no new fw or less product support. Then be glad it's not the long "abandoned" Neo U1.. biggrin.gif But at least the last FW is stable.
Netlfix UHD was never promised and will never come unless Netflix relaxes their rules. Use your Smart TV app instead or get another device.
Nvidia recently refreshed the hardware..if i recall correctly, it was about a bluetooth hw change or so.. I'd say wait but NVIDIA hasn't hinted at a replacement out this year and so we don't know if any will be relaeased.. CES 2019 was silent on the Shield TV hw refresh front too. However, if you require one now? The NVIDIA Shield is still the king of Android TV boxes out there. Has constant support from NVIDIA and the community, does Netflix UHD+HDR, etc.. Ticks all your boxes.

I am re-set up an htpc to make use of this z8350 atom based I found lying around. Just install a fresh win10, and plan to use mainly for streaming.

Feel too slow, any suggestion on how to get this box up to Android Box, standard?

Linux... or Kodi and BlueStacks on Windows... FYI, depending on content type you play, you might later find that some won't play so smooth with that hardware.

The Xiaomi MiBox S should be able to output YouTube in 4K. However, I've read that it's color reproduction isn't the best, especially when compared to certain smart TV's YouTube app. So you might be better off using your TV's, if available.
*
Hmm. What I found on some review is the 4k performance can be stuttered even with a stable and fast internet connection. Then again my TV is not 4k-capable so that should not be an issue.

Aside from the MiBox S,
Any comments on the Modeo Android TV BOX, which is running on Amlogic S905X Quad Core ARM Cortex A53 @2GHz, Penta-core Mali-450MP GPU @ 750MHz, with 2GB Ram?

I wouldn't buy any of the Xiaomi MiBoxes.. Not until they make something actually decent.. Besides, I've got fully functioning and stable smart TV apps for Netflix, YouTube and the likes.. Also, I tend to shy away from the unpopular "branded" boxes.. Same reason, they tend not to perform so well.. I suggest you stick to the battle tested devices instead. Sure they are pricier, BUT in the long run.. they'll cost you less cuz then you won't have to eventually buy another better box as a replacement. I'd pick older devices like the HiMedia Q10 Pro, Minix Neo U1 and MeCool M8S Pro L ..over this Modeo box.

Not surprised by the results.. It's absurd but yep.. some RM300-ish devices can actually run around most RM1k HTPCs out there when it comes to high bitrate and res media playback.. Don't get me started in HD audio and passthrough either..

Kodi should work better on Windows 10 as it's natively run.. Want more of that but for Android devices? Just have to give in and get a proper Android OS powered box.

i only use u9h for 2-3 months then upgrade to shield ( im also previous minix x8h user for few years, bored with minix, thus upgrade to shield)
got few pro and cons upgrade to shield
pro
- king of android box interm of performance, stability, fw support etc
- netflix 4k supported
- 1 remote + 1 gamepad with earphone.
- android games, clould nvidia geforce and nvidia streaming from gtx cards.
- nice android tv layout

cons
- some apps, even sideload wont work, cos its running Android TV os, which is strip down from full android os like u9-h.
- astro go, hyyptx, require screen orientation to change to landscape ( default to portrait), even with that, astro go always crash, now i fed up already and didnt watch it,

my advice, just get it. but with new hardware refinement. for 2019, they added separate Bluetooth chip n board, to avoid interference with USB3.0.

Most if not all boxes can allow watching YouTube videos fine.. See page one for options.. All should be okay.. Question is.. You fine with just FHD max or want 4K, what's your max budget, etc?

hi all,

i just want some opinion as i am looking to upgrade my current android box. am considering between the below 3 options, am using it mainly to watch live TV.

Option 1
- Tanix TX6 allwinner H6

Option 2
- X96 max AMlogic S905X2

Option 3
- K10 Plus ROCKCHIP RK3399

main concern in terms of stability (current is slow and buffer need restart) and video quality, Does it makes a difference if i go for the Rockchip RK3399 if i am mainly gonna watch Live TV

I'd go with option 2.. AML chips come with better drivers and support. Though up to the box manufacturers to take advantage of such and optimize for their HW.
