For that price point I think B650M-HDV/M.2 would be more favorable.

You don't see it yet (either of them) because price so close, and 7000 series CPU moving super duper damn slow.

Because Ryzen boards are very expensive. B650 boards at RM1k on its launch day. Forcing people to go DDR5 too. Many also learns that they shouldn't buy new RAM tech until it is matured.

Ryzen also less cores for more money too. Only a few models worth buying.

Yes correct, but seriously it's only the CPU and TCO la.

AM5 board and DDR5 are available at good price point already but TCO .............

Exactly like your 2nd point - 6 cores 12 threads for RM 1K? 8 core 12 threads for RM 1.5k?

People see that and factoring the price of other stuff like MB and DDR5, in the end most people who game would go on with combo like 5600 (6/12) / 5700X (8/16), get a good used B450 / B550 MB and with DDR4 prices so low now.

Less spent on CPU / MB / DDR can channel to higher spec graphics card.

TCO means everything lor.

CPU expensive, mobo still expensive when Bseries is still 900-1000, DDR5 price coming down but capable sticks that will outrun fast DDR4 are still too expensive. People who are on budget but still want the latest will then go for Intel.

I'm thinking to get something like 5800X3D but will it be safe to use Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B to cool this CPU? I mean it must be one hot CPU and air cooler may not be enough for this.

A redittor have this comment: I found that it performs within margin of error of most cheaper AIOs. When compared with the Deepcool Captain 240EX, this cooler had lower idle temperatures by about 4°C and under load was only 2°C hotter.

Some said its comparable to Dark Rock Pro4

So it should work fine i guess, or else can still undervolt it

Mobo B series at RM 600 range, and it's damn high quality build when compared to say B550.

DDR5 6000 CL40 2x 16GB also RM 400 range only.

In the end it's not just TCO la, it's about whole config - for example people buying high end graphics card often use with high end screens and they don't necessarily want to push framerates so actually 5000 series CPU also more than capable.

Also those on a budget don't actually go Intel nowadays, they go B450 / A320 / A520 with Ryzen 5 4500 / Ryzen 5 5500. And yes, even cheaper DDR4 3200 CL16.

I see, so it seems I need to do a push-pull configuration to increase my cooler's performance. Apart from that, getting something like 5700X might be a viable option since it has lower TDP.

Push pull with stronger fans (1500 - 1800rpm) by then you might as well sell off that Mugen and get PA120/PS120 which will slay that 5800x3d

Now that is something to consider too. Did a bit of checking and a PA120 black should fit in a CM scout 2 (cooler height 157mm vs clearance 162mm).

PCIE 4.0 and 5.0 hardware isn't cheap. Plus crappy ringgit. Both Intel and AMD board prices are higher now.

Actually there are alot of budget b650 mobo that are not sold in Malaysia (yet). Current stock still very limited choice with mostly on the high side. Asrock b650m hdv, gigabyte b650m ds3h would be a cheaper option but good enough for future proofing.

Those boards isn't appealing though.

I'm planning to purchase an AM5 rig to retire my long running Ryzen7 1700 rig(since 2014) which is mainly used as a virtualization host (homelab) 24x7

was wondering which motherboard vendor is most sought after nowadays if I'm looking towards an AM5 cpu ? I'm currently on Asus Crosshair VI Hero which has been a worthy work horse so far. But I've also came across the debacle from Jayz and GN about Asus's treatment on AM5 platform recently hence I'm not sure which would be a better alternative.

Not to mention the options on retail seems to be way limited either.. unsure.gif

Go with MSI board. Which Ryzen you are shooting for? VRM matters for 12 or 16 cores CPU. Even some budget board have problems handling 8 cores.
