Oh it seems I can buy 3rd gen ryzen without getting new motherboard. Then again, is there any significant gains switching from 2nd gen processor to 3rd gen?

I am currently using an Asus ROG B450F with R5 2600X. Should I upgrade to 3700X do I need to switch to AIO for cooling or stick with air cooling. I'm using Scythe mugen 5 Rev B btw.

Should I upgrade my 2600X to 2700X or it just a waste of money?

QUOTE(TristanX @ Mar 21 2022, 08:09 AM) Update your BIOS. Oh thanks a lot! I think I will consider 5600X since the lower TDP will surely make it run less hotter as I run my CPU on air. Of course if the pricing of 5700X doesn't much of a difference I may consider getting that instead.https://rog.asus.com/my/motherboards/rog-st...l/helpdesk_bios Then go straight for 5600 or 5600X or 5700X. 5600 and 5700X coming soon. No point getting another CPU with more cores but still slow. |

I just wondering, since in order to use the latest Ryzen cpu, I need to update my bios for my asus b450 to the latest one. So if I update the bios does this mean that my current cpu is become unusable?

QUOTE(edmund_yung @ Mar 30 2022, 09:46 AM) No, I think your Strix B450F will still support your 2600X. Not so sure about Zen 1 CPU. That's good to hear. So I will still can use my 2600X after updating the BIOS that enable my Strix B450F to use 5600/5700 cpu. Thanks. I myself updated my Strix X470I and it still works with my 2700X. |

I'm thinking to get something like 5800X3D but will it be safe to use Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B to cool this CPU? I mean it must be one hot CPU and air cooler may not be enough for this.

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Sep 4 2023, 11:31 AM) A redittor have this comment: I found that it performs within margin of error of most cheaper AIOs. When compared with the Deepcool Captain 240EX, this cooler had lower idle temperatures by about 4°C and under load was only 2°C hotter. I see, so it seems I need to do a push-pull configuration to increase my cooler's performance. Apart from that, getting something like 5700X might be a viable option since it has lower TDP.Some said its comparable to Dark Rock Pro4 So it should work fine i guess, or else can still undervolt it |

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Sep 4 2023, 07:17 PM) Push pull with stronger fans (1500 - 1800rpm) by then you might as well sell off that Mugen and get PA120/PS120 which will slay that 5800x3d Now that is something to consider too. Did a bit of checking and a PA120 black should fit in a CM scout 2 (cooler height 157mm vs clearance 162mm). |
