You have to start with low dosage of 500 mg a day, then increase once you can tolerate it.

Straight high dosage will give you diarrhea.

No sugar,choc,rice,flour,potatoes...almost impossible to adhere to.

a few days ago doctor say i am diabetic.
i am not shocked, because my family are diabetic.
my mum was diabetic when pregnant with me. - is it true because of this my chances of being diabetic is higher?
doctor say my sugar is very high. like super high. now go down already but still in 11 to 14 range.

at first when he found out high sugar, first few days he keep on inject insulin when my sugar is higher than 14.
so now no more insulin because below 14. so he gave me 850mg metformin 2 times a day for 2 weeks. then 3 times a day for like 2 to 3 months.

i know what i am getting into and well aware what is going to happen.
but i want to understand what is going on with my body right now. i read here and there but i cannot understand a few issues.

i am supposed to be type 2 diabetis. the doctor didn't explain much. asked the diabetic nurse to coach me.
she say because i whacked too much sugar, so now my pancreas is damaged. cannot produce insulin. so need to cut sugar and eat medicine.

i don't understand, so now is my pancreas damaged and cannot produce as much insulin or am i insulin resistant like what they wrote in medical website?
or cannot determine whether my pancreas is doing fine or just that my cells becoming insulin resistant? you just can't tell?

why am i prescribed metformin? what does it really do? from what i can recall it is supposed to make my cells more sensitive towards insulin and make me produce less excess insulin into my blood stream? i need an answer.

why do they need to treat me like a chronic patient?
"unfortunately, you have to live with it now"
"there's no cure, it is a chronic disease, but you still can control it with healthy lifestyle"

now the problem now is, that metformin is giving me terrible diarrhea.
it happens for a few days already. yesterday no pass motion. i don't know why, but today..

i shit in my pants on my way to work. i cannot control my bowel movements at all. when i need to go, i cannot tahan.
i take public transport to work. i already reached office today but took a cab back home because i shit in my pants.

this week i shit in my pants for 5th time already. now i am having problem getting to work.
i am thinking to quit my job now due to long travelling distance in the morning.

before i take this metformin, i don't feel sick at all. i can run and jump. but this medicine is making me sick and taking a lot of MC this week.
please share your experience with me because i am getting depressed right now.

seriously considering quitting my job and wear adult diapers.

please go purchase a blood sugar monitor in pharmacies. the testing stripe may be expensive but you should test it everytime after meal so you know when you should take the medicine and when you should not. over reliance on medication will make your system more ineffective so take when you need it.

type 2 means still got hope to recover, if you don't control your food intake it will become worse until the point you need injection daily and it's irreversible.

and it's not just sugar but any food that can be easily converted to sugar by the body. so if you want to eat rice, best eat brown rice because they have more fiber, but control the intake because it's still rice. you can eat nuts, beans, whole grain to get full but best is vegetables with some olive oil & vinegar (without Thousand Island & Mayonnaise!!!).

eat fruits moderately even though their fructose are more natural they are still sugar. avoid drinking fruit juice as they lack the fiber and has alot more sugar content than eating fruits. choose fruits that are less sweet. few dips of Lemon/Lime in water can be good.

do not eat any synthetic sugar as they might have zero sugar content they can damage your liver/pancreas and cause headache etc.

if you want to drink anything not plain water, drink green tea, chinese tea, because normal teas will be difficult to drink without sugar. Herbal tea contains lots of sugar and those without sugar are really bitter. avoid any man made drinks like soda, bottled green tea, ice lemon tea etc because they all have lots of sugar.

meat only eat fish & lean chicken, no red meat, no prawns, crabs & fancy seafood. avoid chicken fat & always peel off the skin. best is boiled or steam or light stir fry with natural herb & spices, minimum cooking oil, no fried, no bbq, no teriyaki sauce or other synthetic condiments like tomato & chili sauce because they are super high in salt & sugar.

exercise moderately, if you are obese or have other health issues never do heavy exercise. things to avoid like running/jogging/tennis/badminton/soccer/weight lifting etc, walk more, climb stairs, learn Tai Chi, Qi Gong, yoga, focus more on aerobatic work outs because your body cannot handle tough exercise, downside is you need more time to burn off more weight. also if you overwork you end up eating more which makes things worse.

it takes alot of discipline & self control but it should not be too hard. i know people whom aren't ill but sick & tired of the fancy food they've been eating everyday in expensive restaurants that they don't really care if they have to eat bland taste food as they already bored with rich taste food. so really depends on individual. no harm going on sugar frenzy once a while just make sure you monitor your blood sugar & carry your medicine around. i'm assuming you don't have High Blood Pressure.

alo that is quite serious you don't need to wait for 5 times to request change of medicine, medicine also got grades, some doctor push certain types of meds to patients who aren't really knowledgeable purely for commercial purpose because they make more profit selling drug A than B, i suggest you really look into the available options for the drugs, should take less than 5 minutes to google "Best Diabetes Medication". millions of people suffer from diabetes i'm sure there's enough database to check which type of medicine has the least negative effect.

while you are still on the same drug, i would suggest:

1.use the toilet before you leave home. eat breakfast earlier so you have time to "purge" your previous meal. it is important to have your meals on time especially you already have diabetes because your body cannot handle inconsistent glucose fluctuation.

2.wear adult diapers just to be safe.

3.carry spare panties & pants & shirt & a small towel & a big ziplock bag in your bag and some baby wipes just in case.

4.eat more fiber.

do you think your diarrhea is "digested food", or they just bypass the digestive system like when food poisoning now eat 5 minutes come out? if it's processed not so bad at least your body absorbed the nutrients.

if you feel lighthead or want to faint chances are your blood sugar is low so don't take the meds in those cases it will make it worse.

the doctor say eat before meal
the nurse say during or after meal, dun listen to doctor
now u say eat after 30mins?
rclxub.gif

eat during meal.

if you have to eat before meal make sure you eat as soon as you can.

or if you not sure, have light snack before you eat med so the med have something to work with.

if you eat too early, you get blood sugar crash which can be very dangerous. can faint one you know.

eat too late after meal, the med might not be able to work in time.

so best is eat with during meal or right before meal.

also best is more frequent light meals instead of 3 full meals. you can always take away half your lunch to eat later at tea time.

also your 850mg pills, can always cut half become 400mg right? pls go buy a blood glucose monitor and carry it with you.

mine only 500mg 2 biji twice dailly AFTER food 30 min

i think, depends what food you ate.

meat generally takes longer time to process so 30mins is ok.

but if you drink 1 cup of coke, or chocolate bar, well those glucose goes into your body much faster so 30 mins might be abit late ya...

since you still indulge in chocolates.

Your family are diabetic because your family eat the same food . If you want to heal your diabetes , you must change your lifestyle . Stop eating process food like roti canai , fried animal products like KFC , soda , french fries , cookies etc . Try drinking lots of plain water regularly . Diabetes is dangerous because it effects 3 things , your vision , your kidney and your limbs like your legs . There are many doctors who are experts in diabetes and one of the best is Dr Neal Barnard . You can watch many of his diabetes videos in Youtube . I also have a friend who's having diabetes but he just refused changing his diet . Nothing much I can do for people who don't want to change .

Dr Barnard method is simple . Stop eating all animal products like meat , fish , chicken , eggs , milk and cheese .

when i google i see vegan i say BS.

and those going keto, remember human need a well balanced diet. you eat high fat low carb, not gonna solve your obesity and you gonna spoil your liver even sooner.

and if you want to eat high fat, best is choose healthy fat source like nuts. not 3 layer pork.

Keto diet can significantly reduce the amount of insulin required but it isn't really necessary - I can't live without my carbs.

Diabetes can be annoying / frustrating and expensive. Fortunately today has been good biggrin.gif

U know u can't quit your job, who is going to take care of you? Are you from a rich family?

So start getting to reality. You can actually get through this. Do you know that sometimes a disease can make a person stronger and give them more goals in life?

My cousin is worse than you, she is taking insulin injections. But she is working in high IT position and her company sends her regularly to Europe and USA. She finds objective in life, in she care and sayang her youngest sister like her daughter.

Just try your best and solution doesn't come immediate. I myself had stiff spine, that I can't even move left or right until I figured out myself own exercises and stretches and bought myself an arch back stretcher than help me to get my spine more flexible. I will not disclose my situation, but I can tell you got people here who face different set of challenges in life but its still the same.

What nonsense, animal products are rich in protein, not carbs. Why the hell would a diabetic person not be able to eat animal meat/products? Lean meat for example, has nearly no carbs in it, just protein, wonder where does the YouTube doctor gets his certification, university of YouTube?

Stop giving stupid misleading and wrong advice to people, especially when it comes to their health. God forbid some people would actually listen to you. Diabetes can't be healed, it can be controlled. It's two very different things.

Exactly, it's better that you don't care about other people's health when you are spouting nonsense.

No meat or animal product for diabetic patients, wow, one YouTube doctor knows better than THOUSANDS of hospitals and doctors that serves animal products to their diabetic patients in the hospital.

It's true that an idiot is born everyday. Lel.

You are not answering the above rebuttals.

Further proves how bad you are at giving advice to others.

You are in no position to tell anyone not to trust their doctors.

Trust in you = nil.

Hi TS,

Do regular exercise to improve the your health status. Take medicine and control the diet as per suggested by Doctor/Dietitian.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4746859/

The study shows long term intake of Ulam raja may help on diabetes.

Diet (cut the sugar and eat more veges) and exercise; reduce weight. Type Ii diabetes can be controlled by this method. Get a blood glucose meter from any pharmacy and test yourself regularly...fasting (over night no food) and two hours after food. Learn to take your drinks without sugar. Hidden sugars are also found in a lot of foods. See a dietician. You need not be crippled by this disease if you manage it well.
