For CIMB FD...if the fd slip is the joint name of both person...izit necessary for both person to present at the same branch in case one of the party wanna fully withdraw it from cimb?
This is one of the most common and disastrous mistake made by FD depositors due to lack of financial education, ignorance, carelessness, not taking care of their own interest, and being unable to understand the language. The basic education of any FD depositor by bank staff or any teaching of financial life skills in schools should stress among other things:-
1) If simply cincai simply sign buta buta, usually the bank staff will automatically tick AND as a safety measure if forget to ask/get your choice.
From the bank's angle, this is to prevent any problem in case one of the depositor tries to redeem early or on maturity when he/she is not to do so.
This means, all the persons named in the FD have to show up. Very susah especially if some one is not available. Usually some finanacial loss on interest or penalty, or loss of opportunity to take up another better FD.
2) For ordinary people, you should be very careful whether you really want the AND choice, or else specifically carefully tick the box in the application form or request, and confirm that it is EITHER ONE TO SIGN or OR. This means just ONE the joint holders can do everything conveniently in case the other/s not convenient to show up. Jokes aside, some bank staff may be so green and unable to understand what this means and are known to give trouble by insisting all show up. You must be very sure what your application choice is. This is not a clause in the T&C but a deliberate choice you must make to protect yourself and operation.
3) Depositors should carefully examine the application and any printout FD receipt/FD certificate before leaving the counter to confirm. You can ask the documents to be corrected if there is a mistake there and then, but things will be difficult if try to change later.
