wow, remove coupling caps? not afraid of DC offset?

hmm...so if remove coupling caps still can use with speaker right? just that with headphone or earphone it might shorten the life of the driver and fail eventually right?

The LME has been used before, with all other caps. I have my own technique removing SOIC without damaging them, most people just cut them out but I keep all of them just in case I needed them back, no matter how bad they were. I never really believe in burn-in in solid state devices

EDIT: I have bypass the coupling caps after the DAC just by using solder while the caps still there just for testing, it seems that it have no ill effect unlike I got from XtremeMusic

EDIT2: I properly short the coupling caps, removed them and just use a wire to connect them, and I removed the big orange tantalum 33uF caps because I afraid it might blow up if it fails. I truly love how it sounds now, its more revealing and detailed than before!

No, I expected a huge DC offset too (maybe on 1 or 2V) but no, there is mere 100-200mV on each channel, not too much. I plugged in old Philips SBC HP200 headphone, it sings very well, and lasted me half an hour, I never put headphone that long before laugh.gif

Got some more time for some mods, so I decided NOT to use any opamps at all since this is voltage-out DACs, just solder wire from one of the output to 47uF Rubycon Blackgate NX HQ and 1k ohm resistor (to filter out out-of band frequency) to RCA out on each channel and its done. It sounded awesome this way! So natural, so clean, with amazing clarity and imaging!

One of the STUPIDEST, most IDIOTIC thing I done, is I accidentally put the mono mode ON all this time! Its been about a months I think, I've detected anomaly long ago but I thought the soundcard can't output pure stereo out like external DACs do, instead its done in in mixed mode, well it was my stupid mistakes, now I know what human factor means! I smacked my head half past 3 in the morning. So all of this time I was using MONO!

I been thinking of buying new crystal clock for my X-Fi. Anyone knows where to buy one? Octave don't have them. I'm looking for audio-gd stuff, something like this, I hope they won't costs a bomb though.

My other aim is to change resistor to a better one, since my analog out is very simple, one resistor and one capacitor so getting the best is a must biggrin.gif

Hmm... my audigy (SB0090) uses 2 opamps... one ST4558 and one 5216 for front output

the st4558 is now taken off and bypassed...now the card is relying on the 5216 slot which i removed and changed with ad8066...

there are 4 coupling caps for the 4558 slot which i did not remove... and there are no caps for the 5216 slot i think

can i just short the 4 coupling caps at the 4558 slot? remove them and solder across the terminals?

...here is a super big pict of sb0090 and the caps that i'm talking about....

[attachmentid=1153044]

DAC and DSP caps are changed to Panasonic FM caps by Extreme... he did the bypass too... but he didnt short out the caps after that... is it okay for me to short it?

What are the value of those 4 caps? The Audigy are hard to trace, you need to know what you are replacing. The 5216 is front channel obviously, the 4558 is for surround, and its for microphone in too

But i wonder what is the need for two front opamps. hmm.gif
Cause when remove either the 5216 or 4558, front output will have no sound...

Indeed hard to trace, but i'm sure that caps 1,2,3,4 all belong to the st4558. Whether or not it is linked to the AD8066 i'm not sure...

St4558 slot has been bypassed like this : there are 4 terminals up and down for the opamp (8 terminals for 8 pins)

1.2.3.4

5.6.7.8

....2 and 3 has solder across them linking them together

and 5,6 has solder across them linking them together too, i guess that was how it was bypassed...

Heh..I dont know the values of the caps, i'm currently using the card in my computer, those are quite small values if i remember correctly. Is it really important to know the value on the 4 caps?

Added on August 23, 2009, 5:44 pmoh and btw, what are those film caps you used for bypassing the capacitors?

Its important to know the caps value because its easier to identify whether they for coupling (some say decoupling, but DC decoupling is the correct term for me) or for something else. Its weird, maybe those extra opamp are for front panel audio?

I just use some 0.1uF mylar caps I found on old CRT monitor

What kind of trouble you faced? And you use digital or analog out?

i'm using exact kind of hardware of yours...

Sound Card : Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty PCI-e
Speaker : Logitech Z-5500
Connection : both (Analog + Digital)
Driver : Latest

here's the scenario; i disabled the Dolby Digital Live (DDL) it'll be like normal (on Digital Remote Control Hub's LCD) - Dolby ProLogic II Music/Movie, it also can select other effect such as Stereo; Stereo X2, Dolby ProLogic Movie; Dolby ProLogic Music...

but when i enabled the DDL, it'll disabled all other effect and left the only one... Dolby Digital. the best thing about this is... every audio source was converted to 5.1 channel even the one with stereo one, i'm not sure if it's true, but yeah... according to my ears, it surely tells me that blush.gif

the issue is, where's that DTS, THX like my brother used to say to me when he hooked up with his Razer AC-1 sound card + Z-5500, pardon me if i did not do/did something, or i'm missing something...

thanks in advance...

if not mistaken,
your Titanium doesn't come with DTS decoding (need to buy DTS Connect Pack from Creative seperately) link
since z5500 got DTS decoder, just use SPDIF passthrough setting..

DTS Connect is actually an encoder, not decoder. Titanium comes with Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect, meaning you can get 5.1 channel audio via digital out connection with them instead of simple 2 channel audio nod.gif

Hello everyone. I just got myself a Logitech Z-2300 yesterday and my Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty PRO will arrive tomorrow. Currently using onboard and I want to know what kind of difference should I be expecting with the Titanium PRO?

Another question, I just need to plug in the soundcard and plug my speaker cable onto it,install the drivers with the CD provided, and I can use it d? Need to disable the onboard?

TQ

Added on September 3, 2009, 11:00 pmAnybody mind telling me what application I need to download since I bought my Titanium X-Fi PRO as OEM.

Please list out all the applications that need to make my speakers like wonder here.

TQ
