The carbon rim is a Nextie. Not sure how tough they are. I bought it cheap from friend's bike which is ridden 3 times only. I guess carbon rims will break if you hit it hard enough. My friend crack his ori Enve rim at Kiara last week.Btw, why you put the Enve stickers on it la? IMHO, it's a bit poyo. |

QUOTE(kimio77 @ Nov 14 2016, 11:56 PM) At this price range, buy the brand with the colour that you like, Twitter, XDS, Mosso, etc. Check out MTB Malaysia FB page or Bicycle Buy Sell for deals. Then ride until it breaks or when you need to scratch the upgrade itch. |

If you use 710mm, it'll be wider, thus making you bend forward more... is this what you want? If yes, by all means, go ahead. Besides, if the 710mm doesn't fit you, you can always change back to the 600mm or cut the 710mm bar.Hope opinion TQ. |

My last mtb was 20years ago rigid frame, just to paint a picture where i'm at in this whole MTB'ing world. welcome back bro..guess we're in the same boat. watching some of the MTB videos online gave me the heebie jeebies now, age may be the factor now.Do you really recommend any body protection? Glove/knee/elbows which most critical? Can you please point me where i could get body protection? Just got back from my first trip to Chiang Mai. What an awesome experience. Tried the famous Bamboo, Scout Camp Gee House and ATV trails among others. All of them are like Kiara x20, where everything is gnarlier, bigger and longer. Endos, arm pumps and brakes overheating is real.
If you love Kiara, Chiang Mai is a must go. Not much photos of the trails but sharing 2 photos here. Steepest rock garden. Ever. This is at the ATV trail. At least 70 degrees steep, with big ass rocks. The bottom of another long, fast, and steep drop with big roots and ruts. Just hold on to the rear brake and hang on! at last, the sun shines! got to ride again after almost a week of downtime..wut did i learned from my ride today? never underestimate what a pair of padded cycling underwear/shorts can do to your ride. since i got back to cycling last month, i tried to hack it, just ride in my normal baggy shorts, but after a while..yup, u guessed it.. i can't feel my 'friends' down under. not to mention the uncomfortable feeling while u pedal, no bloody wonder i felt tired so soon into my rides. tried adjusting the saddle but it helps only a little. then i got myself a pair of padded undies & today was the first time i rode wearing it. wow it feels like sitting on a cloud, even on my hard OEM saddle.
so, my advice to other newbies or rusty born-again MTB rider like me..get them padded shorts/undies..ur 'friends' down under will thank you for it & you 'll have one less thing to worry about on ur rides.. |

QUOTE(SoFlush @ Dec 5 2016, 03:56 PM) agreed on no.1 since the trail there is also covered in grass already unlike the video, well beginners needs to learn somewhere. You must've seen that road is safe for you QUOTE(SoFlush @ Dec 5 2016, 03:56 PM) no2. Nope, advanced riders that i can see from youtubes/gmbn don't touch their brakes when approaching jumps, instead they want to get more speed, touching brakes before a jump is just dumb. Helmet mount only capture view of the trail only and feels kind of "disconnected" from the MTB. Chest mount is the best as it capture the almost your full arm and the front cockpit of your bike and the trail so its gives a better feel of the mtb action. |

QUOTE(thurtin @ Nov 29 2016, 01:49 PM) Just got back from my first trip to Chiang Mai. What an awesome experience. Tried the famous Bamboo, Scout Camp Gee House and ATV trails among others. All of them are like Kiara x20, where everything is gnarlier, bigger and longer. Endos, arm pumps and brakes overheating is real. I went there in Sept, the wettest month and rode Gee House and Bamboo. Miss Rock Garden because of rain. yeah...CM is awesome but not for beginner. |

QUOTE(mingyuyu @ Dec 14 2016, 10:29 PM) me write camera review can but bike related reivews tak boleh pakai depends on what kind of spring the freehub has. usually no issue. slipping might be due to worn out internals, or the grease used is too thick. open the freehub n see.for that price i wouldn't expect it to be on par with the big brands lah, but just looking for an extra layer of "skin" if i crash. btw my half year old Chosen hub started to slip recently without any reason (hub was just serviced last month), possible that the grease used for the hub was too thick and sticky? i researched online and saw different manufacturers using grease/lube for different hubs. some grease can harden up when it comes in contact with water. Their designs are badass too. Shimano AM7 » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « You could also use Shimano AM5 and AM9 if later you decided to go clipless. |

Bikes now use 142 or 148. my friend has a Dartmoor Hornet and uses it regularly for Kiara. It's a nice AM hardtail no doubt, but yeah the only thing is the rear axle size. It's the older 135 x 10 mm QR type. If you don't mind that, it's a decent frame to build on. I believe the newer models have been updated with the 142 x 12 mm TA rear axle, but not sure if its available locally already. |

Pros: Very comfy, doesn't feel chunky, got lace cover to keep water out, cheaper than FiveTen, can adjust your feet while on the pedal easier than FiveTen, slightly more ankle support Cons: Not as grippy as FiveTen while on the pedal and when walking, your feet may "jump" a bit when going through technical stuff After trying FiveTen and this, i will go back to the FiveTen. I prefer a grippier feel on the pedal. |

QUOTE(Cyphereza @ Dec 21 2016, 08:47 AM) I would recommend you get the best safety for your feet. ouch, so sorry to hear about your injury there..must've fell quite hard to hurt that bone, as it's positioned quite medially on our feet. hope you've recovered fully.Once I used my DVS skate shoes, and ended up fracturing (hairline) my medial cuneiform. The way they're design to absorb shock is different than of a proper mountain bike shoe. Why not try look at Shimano? I think it is not that expensive compared to Teva, 5-10. Their designs are badass too. Shimano AM7 » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « You could also use Shimano AM5 and AM9 if later you decided to go clipless. well, i went to rodalink putrajaya as they're having a sale right now..the am7 is quite bulky & looks lik a showstopper but also there is an mt44 shoe, looks like a lightweight MTB/tourer shoes to me. selling it at rm264 after a 25% discount. hmmm..choices now, these are clipless shoes but the price is near my budget..might as well go clipless? QUOTE(miaopurr @ Dec 20 2016, 09:22 AM) never owned or rode one before, but their frames look good. But their rear thru axle size, kinda odd. Maybe hard to find the hub and axle. Bikes now use 142 or 148. QUOTE(thurtin @ Dec 21 2016, 04:02 PM) my friend has a Dartmoor Hornet and uses it regularly for Kiara. Yeah i realised i couldnt really find much rear hubs on BBS for that bike. Thanks for the heads up. There are a few, but limited options. The new version Hornet will come with a 142, but i think it ll probably be till next year before it reaches our shore. Was poisoned into getting a MTB, so I thought i would build a cheap bike on a good frame first and slowly swap out the parts when budget allows. |

small question, how many of the riders here can manual/ trackstand/ bunny hop/ wheelie?
reason for asking is that i wonder how important these skills are to ride faster/ safer. |

Cristmas morning, i went to PCP for my 1st trail ride in 16years. little that i know what an eye-opener this ride would be. at the 1st stop, i knew i was nowhere near what the other riders there are doing. i was so hopelessly rusty, it's a wonder i didn't crash out. i stuck to the green trail, but it felt like the red one..back to the gym & the tarmac for now, i guess
lucky i didn't get the clipless set..just used my standard kilang pedals & sneaker..wut a trip that might have been if i used clipless without getting used to it |

QUOTE(SoFlush @ Dec 29 2016, 09:34 PM) I just started mtb weeks ago, and from online reviews they all mentioned these are core skills hence i picked them up. still struggling with them I can do all of them now, bunnyhop is very very weak tho, maybe 5-6 inch back wheel off the ground only lol. Now my personal review - yes extremely important. Your line choices and safety(incase you stray off line @ high speed) will expotientialy increase with a little ride time. Most important is bunny hop as that teaches/gives you the feel on how to nail that 6feet pile of lump without nosediving and you will feel more confident on how to handle your bike on air. Doesn't take long to learn those skill anyway. |

QUOTE(SoFlush @ Dec 30 2016, 02:35 AM) On the other hand....any good personal advice for pumping? I've basically made zero progress at the pump track... could only go round half length of PCP pumptrack before need to pedal again, feel like im missing on how to "apply weight" down the bike to get that surge of speed... i think im worse. One third before need to pedal.I think the method is straight forward. Just need to practice more. |

QUOTE(SoFlush @ Dec 30 2016, 02:13 AM) trackstand - easiest. Mtb tyres and balance point is so wide i can indefinately trackstand with less then 3 hours of total practice time, and you can do it at your porch. Seriously i think you already can do it, maybe you havent tried enough only... i can trackstand for maybe like 10-15 seconds on the saddle but once i stand up i lose my balance easily wheelie/manual - i start learning wheelie first, with seat at pedaling height, somehow it just forces me to find that balance point easier, and pedal when you feel your front coming down helps alot. Key thing is, as long as you can wheelie/manual for 2-3 seconds, you basically got it already, just more practice. In total i guess i spent 8hrs of practice time. Oh, do it at playground/grass - you will fall as your back wheel can't always stop in time, and i wear selipar while training, my five10 is a little too grippy when practicing bunny hop - i learn at stair. Bunny hop up a 3 stair area. The steps are not steep, even if i fail, my back tyre can roll up (but not my front). You know how to ride up road cub/divider? Yes that exact same motion, but aim to clear it without letting your back tyre hit the stair/curb. i practice at stair coz conveniently after that 3 steps up, there is a long flight of stairs down which im also practicing my comfort level in going down 2-3 floors worth of stairs. But if you really are short of time, most important is bunnyhop, that's my breakthrough point of being able to hit steep dropoff at slow speed that u can't ride over(not always u can get the required speed at trails), nail ramps double my height and land reasonably "safe". Mainly that PCP dirt track ramp that looks like a wall, insane launch height at first sight, but now mehhh i'm more worried/perfecting the landing now. i feel like im always scared to commit fully when learning skills, for example im scared to pedal strongly when im practicing wheelie due to the fear of falling back. i tried to put my hand on the brake lever but it caused me to steer to the right instead. as for bunny hop, the biggest struggle im currently having is not able to lift my back wheel up. im not really sure if its affected by my shoes (im wearing some simple walking shoes, never had any problems in trails even during rougher sections and landing drops) but somehow my feet always come off from the pedal when i tried to pull the pedal (wrong technique?). no chance to try pump tracks, dont have any within my nearby locations |

hi guys, after much thought i've decided to go with flat pedals on my hardtail..gonna pick up those pedals tomorrow, can't wait to ride with those on.
anyway, i've also been looking at intermediate/enthusiast level air-sprung fork & 2 forks came to mind. -first is the suntour epixon, i've seen a lot of riders with those on so i guess they must be ok to use. -the second fork i'm looking at is the x-fusion enix. i rarely see those on bikes around where i ride & i wonder why..is it because it's priced higher or it doesn't perform as good as the epixon? and i only see one particular model, the enix on sale around BBS but not the velvet, etc..is the enix an older model, like the epicon used to be before being replaced by the epixon? |

QUOTE(ecto6453 @ Jan 4 2017, 12:29 AM) hi guys, after much thought i've decided to go with flat pedals on my hardtail..gonna pick up those pedals tomorrow, can't wait to ride with those on. epixon user here, best thing is that you can adjust the travel from 100mm to 140mm easily.anyway, i've also been looking at intermediate/enthusiast level air-sprung fork & 2 forks came to mind. |

I ride my mtb 99% on the tarred road.... looking at the chaoyang merlin, look like it is very light and good for my purpose but can't find any user review yet and also official stated its 1.9" width but i think this is bullsh1t lol, compare to my maxxis pace(2.1")i think the true width is only 1.6~1.8". same noisy sound while pick up compare with maxxis pace, they both very noisy lol. the acceleration is much more better than pace, i also feel alot easier on climbing. some china forumer said its a cheaper version of maxxis maxxlite(i never try maxxlite before so idk lol), both very good on tarred road. so far i'm very satify with it. Wht you guys opinion on this specialize crave29 Tq sifus 5k to 9k is a healthy budget, can look at a lot of options. Go to a few bike shops and look at different models. The bike you buy really depends on what kind of riding you want to do. Do you like really technical, steep, rocky stuff? Maybe you prefer easier, flatter, more chill type off roading. Maybe you don't like riding off road after all and prefer a road bike on the roads? Once you get bitten by the bug, you will find out very quickly what kind of bike that suits your regular riding. |

QUOTE(gaemon @ Jan 14 2017, 09:16 PM) comparison between sc bronson, mondraker dune rr & yt capra. all of them in alu frame. which is nicer? Bronson will be more lively and snappier compared to the other two. Probably climbs better too. Dune and Capra nice for the downs and the really steep and techy stuff, may give you a bit more confidence. I just tried a carbon Capra with a X2 shock and float 36 fork for a bit over the weekend. Super plush and planted. Very impressed. |

Does anyone knows how much does Intense Carbine frame only cost?
Intense T275 frame alone is about RM9k.. There is someone selling RM6k for a whole bike Intense Carbine, carbon fiber full suspension. Is this correct? http://bicyclebuysell.com/item/387108/new-...bike-sram-x7-x9 Another post by the same guy, brand new Santa Cruz 5010, XT/SLX drivetrain. Fox Float. RM7.5k. Is this trustable? http://bicyclebuysell.com/item/387092/bran...-2016-15-27-5in This post has been edited by theodore_kh: Jan 18 2017, 10:14 AM |

QUOTE(theodore_kh @ Jan 18 2017, 10:05 AM) Does anyone knows how much does Intense Carbine frame only cost? KSH was clearing the Carbine frame a while back for RM3999. Rm6k for complete 2nd hand bike is possible if the seller is desperate. Anyways, the 5010 is too good to be true. The seller just created the account on BBS. Most likely a scammer. Hey guys, new to the scene. Currently looking for a new ride, retiring my old bike as it's sustain a huge damage after accident (cheap 26" entry mountain bike). My budget is around Rm1.5k~2k, i know it wasn't much but trying my luck here. My daily activities is 20km per day and on weekend is around 40km per ride. Looking for a bike that could withstand my daily routine and also able to ferry my fatass. My old bike would cost me money and time everytime mostly on bearing, always vroke.

Hi All,
How frequent do you replace your MTB tires? My 2years old MTB tires have visible cracks. Any recommendation on where to get cheap tires in Penang or KL? Looking for 2 donuts under RM100. |

Guys, I planned to re-use all the parts from my old 26" full suspension bike to a new (used) 26" hard tail frame.
My question, will all the components compatible? Also should I get Nexus Blacksmith frame for Rm250, or should I get XDS Special Edition for Rm550 including fork, seatpost and saddle? |

Exitway cortex flow and TRS Missile. 1 is alloy frame with deore xt groupset, 1 is carbon frame with deore groupset. Which 1 is a better choice? gaya - carbonoffroad extreme riding = alloy |

don't waste too much money for your first bike with a carbon one. if you find that you like mtb, you can be sure that you will upgrade to another bike. go alloy first.

Are All Carbon Bikes Created Equal?
tldr QUOTE In the end, there are good manufacturers and bad manufactureres in every sphere of life. The same holds true with bikes. Shortcuts can be common for brands trying to break into the market, but you never know. You just don’t know the process, materials and quality control that these cheap no-name bikes have been through. If the worst were to happen and your frame snapped in half while going down a descent you don’t have anything to fall back on. Reputable bicycle brands need to go through homologation procedures in order to import and sell in Australia. This costs money, but it also adds a degree of confidence that your bike has been tested properly (which doesn’t necessarily mean that your $4000 frame will never fail). Or better yet, don't buy carbon. Save money. Say no to carbon! Lower your carbon foot print!

Hi would like to check if anyone here tried Onyx/NOBL hub that using the sprag clutch? Would like to hear the opinion here. Read a lot of good thing about this hub, i.e. instant engagement and near zero drag from the internet. But its good to hear if any local rider tried this before making a purchase.

I'm planning to try the route with a couple of friends tomorrow but I would like to know whether the trail is quite popular or not and hows the condition, is the trail doable for beginner MTB riders etc. Edit: trail route https://www.runtastic.com/cs/trasy/kota-warisan-trail This post has been edited by cheyumm: Feb 24 2017, 05:14 PM |

QUOTE(lp16 @ Mar 10 2017, 04:43 PM) It was on auction, starting price at $1. Now bid is at $280 and will go up. Closing is 16th Mac. Just wanna know roughly what price a Merida Carbon is worth. if u can't find the answer here, maybe u can try pedalspot. u may even find the exact models. or closest LBS to you that has merida bikes. |

Hello & shalom Shredmasters
I got 2 days in Bali in 3 weeks' time - apart from bringing along my trailbike, I haven't really got a solid ride plan but thinking of doing one of the enduro tours and a day in the bikepark. What tour/ride that you would recommend? Should I do 2 days of long rides and skip the bikepark? Would love to hear your suggestions. Thanks! |

Hi boys,
I know that most tubeless setups are done usually done this way; 1. Presta-only RIM 2. Presta valve 3. Rim tape 4. Sealant in the tire before inflation ![]() However my dilemma is my Rubar wheelset is a Schrader only fitting.... according to LBS they aren't able to convert to run tubeless so I did some reading. Solutions are as follow; 1. Drill a hole enough for presta valve and tape up the rim with rim tape 2. Tape up rim with rim tape and cucuk small hole for presta valve (Might leak?) 3. OR. Tape up rim with rim tape, cucuk small hole enough for schrader valve (Yes. The ones use on motorbikes and cars which are sold in motorbike/car shops) ![]() Has anybody run solution no.3 above before and has any advise on the whole scenario? PS - Am still a 26" rider... not willing to spend extra extra $$$ on a 26" presta wheelset |

I got it from ace hardware and DIY-ed on a helmet that was a bit too big as well. FYI, all helmet shell are the same size. Hi,
Plan to get a new bicycle China brand is good enough for me. Anyone had any idea which brand is more reliable and famous? Both at 27 speed , same tires size & same shimano gear and the only different is Trinx provided Airfoks as compare to XDS normal lockable fork. Weight wise not much different. My apologize if this is a wrong place to post this question. Thanks |

All I gotta do now is fill it up with tire sealant.QUOTE(thurtin @ Mar 17 2017, 02:29 PM) My friend was in the same situation as you. But I was told Presta valves hold in the air better due to its design.anything else apart from Stan's no Tubes and Slime tire sealant anybody can recommend? A buddy of mine recommended using motocross tire sealant which is cheaper and better. |

Hi all,
Recently saw some second hand MTB dirt jumpers and am for sale at quite an affordable price on BBS. Wonder if its safe to buy for a bike saw 10 years old? I am worried about the frame's wear and tear due to it being a trail bike. |

But I would also like to be able to bring it out to a trail when my friend ajak. I understand that I might not be able to be best at either one, so I m willing to compromise in certain aspect. I saw some bikes from Da Bomb and Dartmoor which seems to be a little like a Jack of all trades. So i m thinking along that line. Let me know what your thoughts are, thanks. |

Ahh then you should consider a hardtail MTB instead of a dirt jump or BMX bike. You can take a MTB to go on trails and still do jumps quite ok. With a dirt jump bike or BMX, you will not be able to pedal at all because the seat is way too low and the geometry is not designed at all for going up or down trails. It's really just for street or bike parks. I understand that I might not be able to be best at either one, so I m willing to compromise in certain aspect. I saw some bikes from Da Bomb and Dartmoor which seems to be a little like a Jack of all trades. So i m thinking along that line. Let me know what your thoughts are, thanks. Dartmoor is a good brand to start off for hardtail MTBs. Check out the Hornet or Primal. Not sure about Da Bomb bikes because don't really see them around. |

If I were to build the bike from frame up with various used and new components, it requires a budget of RM3.5k. |

QUOTE(leinnz @ Apr 6 2017, 05:27 PM) but putting this item will make the bike same like an alu bike. maybe i am wrong Errr... don't think the clear film will weight like 200 to 300gms more bro.u use carbon frame to have a lighter bike. but putting the protection will make it heavier which might cost the same if use an alu frame |

QUOTE(croomaniac @ Apr 6 2017, 04:20 PM) Thanks, nanti aku check it out mr.diy selling 1 roll of transparent, for car section there Nope, bukan takut, just that last resort of protection. Carbon has different characteristics than allu or titanium.. the outer part, especially must be well taken care off.. I will trust my bike, as always and these frame protector will act as the last protector against small small scratches.. at least it'll not affect the outer resin.. But if still jatuh bodoh, well too bad so sad.. |

Polygon siskiu 7 29er - rockshox recon silver, shimano deore/xt mix etc http://www.polygonbikes.com/ww/bikes/descr...2017-siskiu29-7 2. TRS Missile 27.5 - carbon body, Cross SID air fork. etc https://www.mhcycle.com/trs-missle-275 Both are hardtails and price just below 3.5k. |

everybody says, what matters is the rider. but nobody considers the quality, warranty, value, durability, etc, when shopping for a bike? those criteria not important?

Yes, i do find the price a bit steep also. Stealth reverb also around same price now i think. Honestly, would rather buy Reverb because there is a proper distributor with service centre. |

More importantly, "better" bikes makes the experience a lot nicer. If you're joining an XC race, you don't want to be riding a 14kg 160mm travel full sus bike. Likewise, if you want to bomb down Kiara often, surely you want more than a 120mm travel HT to enjoy the ride? |

If you go pedalspot, it is usually 15% off the sticker price. Don't know how much is current price now though, but i was told a while back that it was 2k+ because of currency fluctuations for the stealth model. |
