Welcome back!

Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

aye, that right..but found out when the body refuses to recover as quick as it used to, got to me..guess i'll just have to train more then blush.gif

the groupset is an unknown quantity here..better shop & have a good look around first. it would be better if you could test ride a few bikes before deciding. the feel & geometry is different between makes
have you tried looking at polygon bikes yet..they have some sale/promotion thing going on now, if i'm not mistaken

bros, ok i just got a full set of mtb'ing stuff. My last mtb was 20years ago rigid frame, just to paint a picture where i'm at in this whole MTB'ing world.

Do you really recommend any body protection?

Glove/knee/elbows which most critical?

Can you please point me where i could get body protection? (price dosen't really matter for safety- but please not some overpriced shops)

ps- i'm planning to go putrajaya challenge park as my maiden ride(don't even know where is the entrece...). Is that a good idea or disaster waiting to happen? My mtb skill is, i can go down a flight of stairs and that's about it haha
*
welcome back bro..guess we're in the same boat. watching some of the MTB videos online gave me the heebie jeebies now, age may be the factor now.

IMHO, gloves & a brain bucket is compulsory for any kind of cycling.

i usually go hunting thru bicycle buy sell.com site & FB pages. you might stumble across some good deals now & then. but wutever it is, enjoy ur ride icon_idea.gif

at last, the sun shines! got to ride again after almost a week of downtime..wut did i learned from my ride today? never underestimate what a pair of padded cycling underwear/shorts can do to your ride. since i got back to cycling last month, i tried to hack it, just ride in my normal baggy shorts, but after a while..yup, u guessed it.. i can't feel my 'friends' down under. not to mention the uncomfortable feeling while u pedal, no bloody wonder i felt tired so soon into my rides. tried adjusting the saddle but it helps only a little. then i got myself a pair of padded undies & today was the first time i rode wearing it. wow it feels like sitting on a cloud, even on my hard OEM saddle.
so, my advice to other newbies or rusty born-again MTB rider like me..get them padded shorts/undies..ur 'friends' down under will thank you for it & you 'll have one less thing to worry about on ur rides..

guys, wanna ask. u guys wear inner padded shorts with ur baggies? what kind? cycling bib shorts? or cycling shorts? or specific inner?
*
i have just got myself a padded cycling undies & rode a few times wearing it underneath my baggy shorts. works well as expected and even sitting down at the local mamak after the rides it's still comfortable. i chose it against normal cycling pants because i prefer my baggies when cycling. anyway, i tried looking at those original Fox padded baggies, but the prices are crazy expensive!

i wear baggies too. my endura baggies came with inner, but now sudah rosak. what brand is your cycling undies, bought where, how much?
what brand? bought where? how much?
knee pads for xcm? can try G-Form. u wanna ride where?
my baggies inner sudah rosak. then wear xc ghey bibs as the inner. but oso now close to rosak oredi. one thing i don't like about wearing xc ghey bibs, the lycra is licin, so my baggies always slips down. everytime kena tarik atas. u got no prob like that?
*
well, i bought mine online thru shopee app. the trader was gofoldies, you can look them up in FB. my padded undies are from Monton. delivery was prompt, but they have a shop near batu caves if i'm not mistaken. price was rm32.90 after the black friday discounts.normal price was rm49, if i am not mistaken.

hi gys, i'm looking to get a pair of shoes to use with flat/platform pedals. but with 5-10, teva, mavic flat specific shoes are way over my budget. i heard of some riders using skateboard shoes with flats. any thoughts or any other experience about this, guys?
thanx..

I would recommend you get the best safety for your feet.
Once I used my DVS skate shoes, and ended up fracturing (hairline) my medial cuneiform. The way they're design to absorb shock is different than of a proper mountain bike shoe.

Why not try look at Shimano? I think it is not that expensive compared to Teva, 5-10. Their designs are badass too.

Shimano AM7

You could also use Shimano AM5 and AM9 if later you decided to go clipless. wink.gif

ouch, so sorry to hear about your injury there..must've fell quite hard to hurt that bone, as it's positioned quite medially on our feet. hope you've recovered fully.

well, i went to rodalink putrajaya as they're having a sale right now..the am7 is quite bulky & looks lik a showstopper shocking.gif . they quote it at rm350+ before a 10% discount.
but also there is an mt44 shoe, looks like a lightweight MTB/tourer shoes to me. selling it at rm264 after a 25% discount. hmmm..choices
now, these are clipless shoes but the price is near my budget..might as well go clipless? tongue.gif

up sikit la, can find good ones. Last time, 661 kneepads were rm180. Maybe now increased a bit.
*
yup, looked around but can hardly find at that price..at best, most are just a bit more. saw some ads showing tiebao cycling/mtb shoes. price is agreeable but are they worth it? confused.gif
i mean, i do like a bargain but it has to perform and stand up to the rigorous nature of our sport.

Cristmas morning, i went to PCP for my 1st trail ride in 16years. little that i know what an eye-opener this ride would be. at the 1st stop, i knew i was nowhere near what the other riders there are doing. i was so hopelessly rusty, it's a wonder i didn't crash out. i stuck to the green trail, but it felt like the red one..back to the gym & the tarmac for now, i guess
lucky i didn't get the clipless set..just used my standard kilang pedals & sneaker..wut a trip that might have been if i used clipless without getting used to it

hi guys, after much thought i've decided to go with flat pedals on my hardtail..gonna pick up those pedals tomorrow, can't wait to ride with those on.

anyway, i've also been looking at intermediate/enthusiast level air-sprung fork & 2 forks came to mind.
-first is the suntour epixon, i've seen a lot of riders with those on so i guess they must be ok to use.
-the second fork i'm looking at is the x-fusion enix. i rarely see those on bikes around where i ride & i wonder why..is it because it's priced higher or it doesn't perform as good as the epixon? and i only see one particular model, the enix on sale around BBS but not the velvet, etc..is the enix an older model, like the epicon used to be before being replaced by the epixon?

How much travel do you need?

Xfusion is a good brand too, underrated
Slightly cheaper than fox and rockshox IMO
*
i just need 100mm of travel..not much as i think of myself as a recreational rider blush.gif
when i picked up my flat pedals this afternoon at a LBS, the shop owner told me that the local Xfusion distributor has not received their stock, so it is quite hard to find them in stock..depends on luck. that why, he said we mostly see the XFusion enix on sale.
