At this price range, buy the brand with the colour that you like, Twitter, XDS, Mosso, etc. Check out MTB Malaysia FB page or Bicycle Buy Sell for deals. Then ride until it breaks or when you need to scratch the upgrade itch.

carbon rise handlebar. any recommendation ? renthal, easton, raceface etc3?

I've use RF sixc 35mm bar. I like it. Am using santa cruz's 35mm bar now. Just as good and holding up well. Don't like renthal's colour but a few of my friends using with no issues.

Just got back from my first trip to Chiang Mai. What an awesome experience. Tried the famous Bamboo, Scout Camp Gee House and ATV trails among others. All of them are like Kiara x20, where everything is gnarlier, bigger and longer. Endos, arm pumps and brakes overheating is real.

If you love Kiara, Chiang Mai is a must go. Not much photos of the trails but sharing 2 photos here.

Attached Image
Steepest rock garden. Ever. This is at the ATV trail. At least 70 degrees steep, with big ass rocks.

Attached Image
The bottom of another long, fast, and steep drop with big roots and ruts. Just hold on to the rear brake and hang on!

ATV looks gooding..almost like TNT trail but with big rocks, gonna go there someday...

the second pic not my type of trail, straight down..sure its fast but if theres nothing technical, it kinda kills it
*
ATV is the bomb. Must try at Chiang Mai. The second pic a bit too far away. It's a long, steep technical section with roots and rocks. Quite fun also.

Got a few small and mid size jumps here and there. We didn't go to the trails with proper big jumps. Most of us don't really do jumps anyways. Small balls.

never owned or rode one before, but their frames look good. But their rear thru axle size, kinda odd. Maybe hard to find the hub and axle. Bikes now use 142 or 148.
*
my friend has a Dartmoor Hornet and uses it regularly for Kiara. It's a nice AM hardtail no doubt, but yeah the only thing is the rear axle size. It's the older 135 x 10 mm QR type. If you don't mind that, it's a decent frame to build on. I believe the newer models have been updated with the 142 x 12 mm TA rear axle, but not sure if its available locally already.

I would recommend you get the best safety for your feet.
Once I used my DVS skate shoes, and ended up fracturing (hairline) my medial cuneiform. The way they're design to absorb shock is different than of a proper mountain bike shoe.

Why not try look at Shimano? I think it is not that expensive compared to Teva, 5-10. Their designs are badass too.

Shimano AM7

You could also use Shimano AM5 and AM9 if later you decided to go clipless. wink.gif
*
I bought my Shimano AM7 for RM350 from Rodalink in May.

Pros: Very comfy, doesn't feel chunky, got lace cover to keep water out, cheaper than FiveTen, can adjust your feet while on the pedal easier than FiveTen, slightly more ankle support

Cons: Not as grippy as FiveTen while on the pedal and when walking, your feet may "jump" a bit when going through technical stuff

After trying FiveTen and this, i will go back to the FiveTen. I prefer a grippier feel on the pedal.

guys...cane creek headset or chris king?

currently using FSA stock come with the bike...got rattling sound...thinking of changing to a high-end headset

My friend has used both before. He said CK is less robust than CC. His CK on his Nomad developed play after a short while. Maybe coz the slack 65 degree angle thats puts a lot of pressure on it. Bear in mind also that he is quite the aggressive rider. He is using CC 110 now and so far so good.

I'm also using CC 110 and so far so good. IINM, both CK and CC 110 around the same price, about RM500+.

Hi guys

Im looking for new MTB. My budget is in the range of RM5,000 to RM9000..I will use more on off road trail. Could you guys suggest bicycle that suits my need and financial budget?
Wht you guys opinion on this specialize crave29

This bike is ok to start off with. Shouldn't cost too much with that kind of specs.

5k to 9k is a healthy budget, can look at a lot of options. Go to a few bike shops and look at different models. The bike you buy really depends on what kind of riding you want to do.

Do you like really technical, steep, rocky stuff? Maybe you prefer easier, flatter, more chill type off roading. Maybe you don't like riding off road after all and prefer a road bike on the roads? Once you get bitten by the bug, you will find out very quickly what kind of bike that suits your regular riding.
