Hi, anyone has a good contractor for installing camera? I would like to install 1 camera for my porch....
*
you can diy.Long run cheaper and easy maintenance by yourself.
-for a start get a hikvision 3mp poe for usd70-75 each.(purchase from aliexpress or ebay)
-cat6 lan cable.
-a 2 disk synology nas comes with 2 licences(very good surveillance software, motion detection by email,
DS cam-apps for android and ios-live stream
-maybe a 8 port gigabit switch for future cameras expansion.
I do all my own setup.

sound so complicated  cry.gif

trust me.quite simple.you get a good recording unit in the 2 disk synology. then you get to buy original hard disk.it is always difficult when you start.if you get contractor, you will get frustrated when your recording unit fail and your contractor takes 3-5 days to come to your house.which actually take 1/2 to 1 hour to get it back running.
this is my past experience.

Synology. Something new to me. It supports Hikvision cameras? Sounds like a NAS + cloud storage. You don't use an NVR?
Lets say if you use Cross cable LAN on your NVR without router, does that mean you connect the NVR straight to a PC not router?
Mind sharing what are kerbio, motion eye and zoneminder? Are they like 3rd party surveillance apps? Anyway, I tried using the Hikvision motion detection thingy, can't seem to have any notification to the IVMS app.. not sure whether I am doing it right.
*
yes,it support hikvision, in fact whole list of cameras.I have 3 ip hikvision and 3 old dlink. It is NAS with cloud storage. You can store files, photos, movies-good movie storage, streaming and 4K transcoding and surveillance recording from your ip camera.

Synology that good?
License fee is just too expensive for each camera (rm240)
Have you tried other alternatives like kerbio, motion eye, zoneminder?
You mean normal gigabit switch or poe gigabit switch?
*
it is really good.after watching my friends spending 5-7K.giving up after 2 years.one of the reason high electricity bill.synology is low powered energy saving.
the thing with synology's surveillance camera, there are constant software support.my personal opinion ,that is the most important.as for the license.it gave you 2 free license when you purchase a unit.you can get a 4 license package from lazada-with some bank promotion, you get a good bargain.

Then you properly don't need the whole setup.
One wifi camera should be enough.
There's xiaomi mijia with 360 degree rotation if want to monitor at different angle
One more is xiofang for around rm100, records in 1080p, got smoke detector built in too.
*
seriously?Outdoor?xiaomi mijia?no IP66?

For me I did install yi home 720p at my porch and still working for the last 2 years since it's placed at location where it's protected by rain/other weather conditionns
Do share if you have better recommendation for wifi camera

Outdoor home series wireless IP cameras are rather expensive, if you're looking for Dlink or TP-link.

Alternatively, if you are looking for chinese products such as Dahua or Hikvision, it will be cheaper.
*
Fully agreed with you.I am using cheap chinese hikvision wired 2cd2032F-1(3MP) and served me (never believe in wireless, with my old asus rt-n66u). indoor camera really are not meant for outdoor.

Aha, same like mine
I got them from this taobao shop, cheaper than ebay/aliexpress so far

So you're using a multilanguage nvr too? Like DS-7808N?

Recording by Synology's Surveillance Station.
My personal testing and concluded that motion detection from
Synology better and precise than Hilvision. No unnecessary recording.

The license fee is quite expensive though
Can buy one 4/5mp camera for each license  sweat.gif

How precise is synology motion detection?
Like if there's shadows, rain, leaf blowing etc
Are the motion detected recordings in maximum 3/4mp quality?
*
No doubt it is expensive.Bought the 4 license package when I got
the DS210J a few years back.
The best part is when I buy the new DS216+ last year,
it comes with 2 free licenses and the old 4 license can be transferred
to new DS216+.
Yes, motion detection recording resolution is 1920X1080 H.264.Very
clear recording.
The Synology's Surveillance Station has many options to set individual
camera parameter.
Motion detection can be set to avoid the sensitive area.
I think this is very basic.
