Hi all, thinking of setting up CCTV at home. Seeing some brands like Hikvision, Dahua always quoted here, I engaged a Hikvision salesperson for a quotation as below. Main purpose is just general security and in-house monitoring of maid.

Due to existing wiring (installed many years ago) the person told me I can only use analog camera up to max of 5MP.

Seeking some opinions from sifus here on whether...

The sales might not be knowledgeable or real professional in CCTV. Very likely you can do NVR with IP Camera up to 4K or more unless the cabling is in very bad shape.

I don't have a CCTV system currently, only existing cabling done several years ago (8 CCTV points)..

r they going to redo new wiring? for hd-cvi cameras, average price for a 5mp is average about rm200-350/unit depends on the feature, 8ch dvr average about rm450 that supports at least 5mp on all channel, so u can agak agak how much is the labour cost after minus the material cost.
if ip camera route, 5mp price about rm400-600/unit, depends on feature, 8ch nvr starting from around rm400.
hdd i suggest get at least a 4tb since u recording 5mp video, and this could keep yor records for at least 2-3weeks before it get overwritten.

edit: ** need to remember that sometime, things after a week before it is realise not there, so u can have at least 2-3 weeks of history video to view back. dahua DVR got smart search feature where it try to find motion or u can have certain area is motion only capture.

some of my camera now at night time only see black and white in light condition ...i off and on back power supply and DVR it's can see colour ..
