Depends on the budget

MUST:
1. go wired if it's under construction, don't go wireless WiFi
hi, would like to know a bit more on this. my house is currently under reno but i didn't plan for the cat cable, as i was thinking to rely n the wifi to save cost. may i know what will be the issues if only using wifi?

thanks

Just my 2 cents
1) Cable is more stable.

2) You can do POE, so only need 1 cable for power & signal for the camera. Power cycling/force reboot is easy. I just switch off my POE switch/NVR.

3) Less wireless signal being transmitted around your house, especially if you're planning to use an NVR to record the camera stream.

Avoid the first one, that casing/bracket is terrible. Easily broken.

thanks, went through a bit on these brands but can't seems to find some solutions for the wireless type, except Dahua has 1 which seems a bit basic and so much options on the wireless camera.

UNV does have some good wireless IP camera solution but is not carry by the local distributor due to having to apply for Sirim. For own used can buy from Taobao. But it could be Chinese version though.

Got a quote from my contractor's contact, as follows:
- iDS-7208HUHI 8-channel
- 8 cameras (DS-2CE56H0T-ITPF / DS-2CE16H0T-ITF)
- DS-1LN5E-E cable (concealed)
- Balum
- 1TB HDD
- 5A power supply

Price: RM4399

I did a quick check on the camera's pricing in Shopee, had a feeling that the price is too high. Am I correct?

And the system seems just a very basic one.

Can I have some recommendations, is the above setup good enough? And how much can I nego down?

Or better go for some better cameras / NVR?

Thanks

Better go for POE IP camera with NVR, they quoted HD Analog. Everything neater & used CAT6 instead of CAT5e especially since it's conceal. Also top up a bit go for 2TB or higher.

if direct to PC, u can install SmartPSS, software by Dahua, this can convert yor home pc into a NVR. if u have a NAS, use iSCSI protocol to connect and use as a drive, which yor video can store it inside.
but i havent really went to test it yet, there is wiki from dahua on setup: https://dahuawiki.com/SmartPSS/How_To_Setup_PC_NVR

100% wire is preferable, after all, the point where u install the cctv will need a power outlet as well, might as well just get a CAT6 cable lay for it. CAT6 is sufficient as most camera havent even reach 1Gigabit yet, all still using 10/100 ports (so far havent seen any 10/100/1000 ports on camera yet)

Hi all, just bought a subsale house, planning about the CCTV system now. Previously thought of buying eufycam + solar, but after the privacy news and rethinking about budget, seems like not the way to go.

The plan is to have 2 outdoor front, 1 outdoor back, 1 indoor. Must be able to connect to homekit (natively even better, but if not then will connect through homebridge/scrypted).

I will buy a budget PC to run homebridge anyway and set up as a media server/NAS, so can involve that if needed.

Would appreciate any recommendation for cameras and how I should go about it.

1. Since only 4, should I go the wifi route and ask electrician to install power points? And each can store video in their own SD card.

2. Should I instead go for DVR / NVR system?

3. Should I go with one of the suggestions few posts above, turn the budget PC into NVR? Will that make it incapable of running my homebridge and media server?

CCTV that can link to homekit are limited.
May be u can consider conventional cctv with RTSP, then pull the RTSP feeds from the camera or decoder straight into Homebridge.

If can lay cable, better pull CAT6 LAN cable from camera to decoder.

DVR or NVR both ok, all big brand system support RTSP, e.g.: HIKVISION, DAHUA.
