Maybank down again today, just few week ago down. Is this related to Apple Pay services coming?

Definitely not, any product launch or new services would not cause a system downtime during peak working hours.

Ocbc i asked my colic to check. Turn up message “apple pay is not available” . But inside app there is a schedule maintenance on 20th Feb during midnight. So we wait next month again?😂

Make sense that those banks that are already offering Apple Pay in SG will be the first to offer it here.

I hope so, unfortunately I don't have a OCBC account so I wouldn't be the first to try it. I hope if OCBC releases Apple Pay in Malaysia, my preferred banks would cave in to consumer demand.

Not necessarily, HSBC & Standard Chartered support Apple Pay in other markets (including Singapore) but neither is willing to push Apple Pay support in Malaysia. Even in Singapore, it was American Express who supported Apple Pay first and the local banks like DBS, UOB & OCBC caved in to prevent consumers switching to AmEx. My hope is that OCBC is willing to take the risk of Apple Pay support in exchange of more consumers switching to their bank. Just like that, the other local banks would cave in and also give Apple Pay support, like what happened to Singapore.

From my friend in BxM, unless some policy changes happen, RIP Apple Pay in Malaysia January 2022.

NFC reloadable Touch n' Go card, MRT Putrajaya Line Phase 1 & Apple Pay; all delay. You know lah, Malaysia always cannot deliver what they promised. I'm fine if it takes a while to make; what I don't like is that they always overpromise and underdeliver (Of course, I'm not including Apple Pay since it's release date has not been publicly disclosed, but still frustrated).

Samsung Pay was released a while back with minimal issues; what policy is preventing them from implementing Apple Pay?

Same 3 issues I mentioned before

1) Multi device authentication of apple pay (1 card can be used on phone and watch, current policy is 1 Device Primacy Acc Number (DPAN) to 1 card)
2) Apple pay doesnt require pin for transactions above RM250
3) Apple pay doesnt have a daily limit for contactless transactions (currently RM1000)

All 3 requires either policy update OR exemption, which is what I'm guessing Samsung Pay got.

Anyway, seems like another core issue is some old guy just dismissing the whole idea of Apple Pay.

It's fine because we were being told it be available not late by March 2022.

Personally I'm hoping it works out, avid user of Apple Pay when I was still based in the UK. But we shall see, assessment report has been submitted for review again I'm told
