Yes, very likely (as there is no precedence within this region)

Other than add CC into AP, I hope one day we can add tng card into AP for transit.

TnG already so kiamsiap few years back (and still with some car park op) when it comes to car park payments. They want a cut.
Imagine Apple taking a cut of 0.15%.

RM10 + service charge 6% + 0.15% = RM10.615 we end up needing to pay.
They'll come up with some PR announcement BS and say "already can reload TnG eWallet and then reload via your NFC card, why need to use AP?".

dont think malaysia will get apple pay card. SG only get virtual card.
I think it is more on linking to CC and DC

At 0.15% it is very low indeed. Standard credit card fees that merchants pay for already is at 1% and other ewallets charge a fee of 1% as well. MyDebit is lower at <1% and other forms like AMEX is >1%

I remember last time we need to pay surcharge of almost 10% to use TnG to pay for parking when it was starting to be introduced in most shopping malls. RM 2 parking then became RM 2.20 and so on because of the TnG transaction charge and 10% is a bit too much...

It’s for Apple Pay, not Apple’s credit cards.

“Just add your credit or debit card to the Wallet app on your iPhone and you’re ready to go. ”

“You still get all your card’s rewards and benefits — so you won’t miss out on any hard-earned points or miles.”

So cash back and points will remain as your original bank reward scheme whether it’s for points or cashback.

If TnG sees this as a good and cheaper way to charge customers, we as consumers are the winner here. I'm all for it if they allow us to put TnG card inside AP but as for now, public transports are taking more or less 100% of the paid value. Asking TnG to give up 0.15% to Apple is gonna make them cry father mother gov need tongkat yada yada.

Yeah those were the times they charged insane amounts because of the monopoly. They have reduced it recently from 1-3% already to carpark operators. The operators as well absorb the cost.

Hey all, I just did a simple analysis on the day which Apple Pay was announced in the past (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Pay#Availability) and listed below are the results:

Mon: 2.3% (1)
Tue: 61.4% (27)
Wed: 22.7% (10)
Thu: 13.6% (6)
Fri: 0.0% (0)

Total: 44 (some announcements covers >1 countries)

Inferring from the past data above and info from @nokia2003, announcement date for Apple Pay in Malaysia could be as follows:
2 Aug 2022
9 Aug 2022

For reference, Apple Pay in these countries/regions were launched in August:
Macau - 6 Aug 2019
Qatar - 17 Aug 2021

Hope these help. Looking forward to AP's launch in Malaysia!!

Apple particularly love Tuesday (local time) announcements.
I've read or seen video somewhere that mentions as follows.

Tuesday - news break out. Media starts scrambling to churn out the news.
Wednesday - talk of the town/socmed/everywhere = create hype
Thursday - Follow socmed ppl know already about it, time for word of mouth to non techie ppl.
Friday - Good amount of ppl know already, launch/sell it.

That's why u always see we can pre-order stuffs on Thursdays and then get it in our hands on Fridays.

Did some further analysis on the Week Of The Month (first day of the month as Week 1) of the past release dates and the results are as follows:
Week 1: 6.8% (3)
Week 2: 22.7% (10)
Week 3: 18.2% (8)
Week 4: 34.1% (15)
Week 5: 18.2% (8)

So I guess past data is pointing towards 9 Aug 2022 more than 2 Aug 2022 (if any of these are correct). With that said, this is based on probability from past data.
