Earthquake are entire Japan.
As long you in Japan, you will face earthquake risks.
When will the big magnitude quake strike? No one knows, God knows

early december macam sudah start snow heavily. like our route.. some part no snow some part heavily snow. so the journey time become longer. and you have to arrive your destination before 4pm coz mostly kawasan luar bandar there is no street light and its dangerous if tak biasa. their traffic light system same light singapore. if cal just use public transport better. I booked with Toccoo (Honda Rent a Car) and took 100% insurance coverage. they provide us snow tyre.

All company car rental have winter tire. Not all Hokkaido have snowing during that period. Unless you traveling nearby mountain ..example Niseko ,Rususut..Asahikawa ,Furano...

For Winter ,January and February are the best time to visit Hokkaido.

During winter, highly advise 100% caution for speeding..example High way, recommended 80km..or less..Follow speed limit ..example 50 Km..cannot exceed the limit. Do not too closed in front of your car. Make gap around 10 meter.

I'm planning the usual route on central hokkaido..
new chitose - noboribetsu - lake toya - niseko - otaru - sapporo - back airport chitose.
6 days.

I would think driving is still the best way to visit all these places.
What would you recommend ??

When snowing, its really cold and freezing. Its dangerous to drive car during night or early morning...because on days..little bit warm..and night ,temperature will drop and its too freezing...Ice bump. 7 years are enough for me to stay in Hokkaido.. smile.gif

Highly recommend you to visit Hakkodate..you can take trains from Chitose to Noboribetsu..overnight for Onsen..then take trains to Hakkodate...either you can rental car from Hakkodate ,then start traveling to Toya Lake...Niseko..Otaru..Sapporo..then back to Chitose...
