QUOTE(linkinstreet @ Mar 18 2007, 01:43 PM) QUOTE This season Formula 1 teams will have to use both Bridgestone compounds during the race. The Japanese tyre manufacturer brought a soft and medium compound to Melbourne. The softer compound was marked with a white spot. Most of the Formula 1 drivers stopped twice to change tyres and get fuel in the pitlane. Almost everyone with a two-stop strategy began the race on the medium compound and finished the race on the softer compound. A full overview of what driver used what tyre compound during the race: Renault Giancarlo Fisichella: Medium - Medium - Soft Heikki Kovalainen: Medium - Medium - Soft Ferrari Felipe Massa: Soft - Medium Kimi Raikkonen: Medium - Medium - Soft McLaren Fernando Alonso: Medium - Medium - Soft Lewis Hamilton: Medium - Medium - Soft Honda Jenson Button: Medium - Soft - Medium Rubens Barrichello: Soft - Medium - Medium BMW Sauber Nick Heidfeld: Soft - Medium - Medium Robert Kubica: Medium - Medium Toyota Ralf Schumacher: Medium - Medium - Soft Jarno Trulli: Medium - Medium - Soft Red Bull David Coulthard: Medium - Medium - Soft Mark Webber: Medium - Medium - Soft Williams Nico Rosberg: Medium - Medium - Soft Alex Wurz: Medium - Soft Scuderia Toro Rosso Vitantonio Liuzzi: Medium - Medium - Soft Scott Speed: Medium - Medium Spyker Christijan Albers: Medium Adrian Sutil: Medium - Medium - Soft Super Aguri Takuma Sato: Medium - Medium - Soft Anthony Davidson: Medium - Medium - Soft source Even though Ferrari and massa use 1 pit stop, but still meet FIA rules. |

Actually this tyre rule, i dont entirely agree with it. The soft compound definitely will be soft enough for a 1 lap performance for Qualifying session. Come raceday, that tyre will not be use even if the strategy involve a lighter load first stint spring to open the gap, since its too soft for race anyway.
So as we can see above, most team will use soft for the final stint where they can slowly take care of the tyre. And this rule also make a one stop strategy a less attractive option, u cant use soft tyres for such a long stint. So I don't see how it can "spice" up things... Let them use supersoft for qualifying and the medium ones for race day, let the guys go race each other until the finish line. That's what we wants isn't it? Not everyone slowing down towards the end to take care of their softer tyres (its bad enough they have to take care of that stupid engine for 2 weeks) |

QUOTE(edison_84 @ Mar 18 2007, 06:58 PM) ah, he started with medium...then switched to soft during his only stop in the race. That would also explain why he couldn't drive quickly in the race...preserving those soft tyres for 20+ laps is torture. Nice drive from Massa |

Actually he started on soft according to that list. I agree with Hornet on this, on tracks with very low grip like Monaco it can be dangerous as usually, the ONLY tyre choice there is supersoft

Coulthard should remember this incident for the rest of his life. If I'm not mistaken...he did a dangerous manoeuvre on Michael in Spa sometime back. Does anyone know the specifications of that incident?that's one accident he'll never forget |
