bought the unit from nabielz, immediately flashed to vortex. coming from openwrt firmware, the GUI is a bit heavy.
i have enabled entware, installed in usb flash drive. at surface level, entware is very similar with optware. i have 1 annoying issue with vortex, my ssh keep disconnected (suspected ssh daemon stopped). re-enabling ssh service from GUI doesn't helped much, so the only way to gain ssh back is to reboot the router. Logs: Jul 23 13:50:26 dropbear[1337]: Exit (admin): Error reading: Connection timed out from my pc, there's no ping time out to the router when ssh disconnected. Never successful to perform firmware upgrade from 380.58 to latest release. Using LAN, tried with IE and FF on Win10, failed. Tried using safari on Mac also failed. Any idea? System logs did not say anything.
Tried with WS880_380.61_1.zip and WS880_380.61_0.zip Verified sha256 is correct. This post has been edited by neuromancerx: Aug 28 2016, 12:04 AM Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(raynman @ Aug 28 2016, 09:35 PM) It is funny you cannot install the firmware via Administration--->Firmware Upgrade by uploading the .trx file. Yes, it's weird. In fact i had spent 3 days to figure it out before posting here I did it successfully from 380.58 to 380.60 and from 380.60 to 380.60_1. Also, initially suspected that i need to follow the upgrade path (from .58 to .60 and then to .60_1) but i was wrong. Nvm, will try for GUI firmware upgrade on the next release. p/s: upgrade via CFW mini web server will retain all the configuration, including JFFS and entware base including installed packages. QUOTE(muncheno @ Apr 6 2018, 08:28 AM) I dun think we could switch direct. yes must reset NVRAM. my context of seamless is changing the firmware via the same GUI, without going back to CFE mode If my memory serves well here, must reset NVRAM. Previously, I need go into CFE emergency boot to clear NVRAM before can flash Tomato. Not very good with configurong tomato therefore I went back Merlinwrt. |

QUOTE(jerryckk @ May 22 2018, 11:55 AM) How's the stability and performance of this firmware compared to Merlin? I'm thinking of switching but heard some reports regarding wireless drops. More or less is almost the same, at least to me. The reason of switching to tomato is because adblock and bandwidth reporting function. |

QUOTE(MX510 @ Jun 12 2018, 09:25 AM) I am testing the cheapest Mikrotik Router results are very awesome I gave up mikrotik when i failed to achieve the desired result configuring wifi bonding (mimo). Documentation is okay, but sometimes did not reflect latest cli syntax. Overall it is still a great product.[attachmentid=9852514] With 32MB RAM this is awesome |

i had successfully configured openvpn in xwrt@WS880, as a vpn server and vpn client.
As a vpn server, let you to connect to your home network remotely, i use this to access my home esxi lab from office. I changed the port to TCP443 to bypass corporate firewall. As a vpn client, establish vpn from this router to my openvpn server (VPS). It is very nice that the firmware let me to do policy based vpn routing, ie only let specific local machine via vpn while the rest of the machine go direct to internet. In my case, i let my download station to use vpn for torrenting (privacy) while the rest of the devices is going for direct internet (speed).
