if its completed, it will say upload completed almost the same as bin file result and when u try open 192.xxxx website, it will lead u to asuswrt page instead of cfe web.

ok, many thanks for your help.
Yes, after few uploads, it showed upload completed.

And the router reboot and sent me to asuswrt page.

I guess it's successfully flashed.
Many thanks for your assistance.

Guys, I need help.

I managed to reach the Emergent Upgrade Page and uploaded the modified WS880_trans.bin.

The next page shows Upload Completed but it didn't boot to the CFE miniweb server as per the guide, even after 60secs.

So I clicked on the Continue link on the Upload Completed page. However, it shows page cannot be displayed. Tried to access 192.168.1.1 on both chrome and IE but no result.

I repeat the 'power off-hold reset button-power on' process and I still can't access 192.168.1.1. The Internet light is still flashing on the router.

I don't know what to do now. Please help me sad.gif

You bricked the router. There must be error in the bin file you upload.

Loaded the bin file.

Upload completed. System is going to reboot.
Please wait a few moments

The Internet LED on router is blinking, but there is no reboot.

p/s
I click continue. It showed me the CFE miniweb server.
Then I chose the the firmware and click upload.
Then the browser went offline.
Waited few minuted, it went online again and sent me to the CFE miniweb server again.
The "Internet" LED on router is still blinking intermittently.

How to tell the flashing is completed?
*
Must repeat many times. I used chrome, can see uploading progress in percentage at bottom left.

Ok, tested the router, it's working fine.

Few hiccups in the process.

There are few steps that need to finetune.
(I just modified the instructions shared by kiding & shawty)

Prerequisites
1. CFEEdit tool Download
2. WS880 CFE Download
3. Use CFEEdit to edit the WS880_Trans.Bin extract from WS880 CFE file
4. Modify the following, you may brick your device if you don't modify it correctly
et0macaddr = <Mac address stated at the back of the router> i.e. C4404219EE88 -> C4:40:42:19:EE:88
secret_code = <WLAN KEY stated at the back of the router > i.e. 12345678
lan_ipaddr = 192.168.1.1 -> leave it as 192.168.1.1 (default value)
5. IE is recommended to access router management page

Unlock and Flash Procedure
1. Disable anti-virus software (it stopped me from going to "emergency upgrade page")
2. Use wired LAN. Manually set the IP address/subnet mask/gateway, 192.168.1.4/255.255.255.0/192.168.1.1
3. Switch off the router
4. Press & hold on to the reset key before you switch on the router, hold the reset key for 20 secs then release the reset button.
5. CTRL+R > CMD > ping 192.168.1.1 -t (once you detect the ping result), open IE and key in address 192.168.1.1
6. With address 192.168.1.1, the IE browser will lead you to "emergency upgrade page"
7. Browse "WS880_Trans.Bin" file that you modified, click upload
8. Wait for "complete message". Then, click "continue"
9. The router will lead you to "CFE miniWeb Server page"
10. Once it is booted to CFE miniWeb Server page, you may flash your favorite firmware. XWRT-VORTEX ver.380.58
11. Wait for the "complete". If you don't see the word "complete", keep trying for few times until you get "complete"
12. Reboot router. Done.

Q&A
1) My smartphone could detect 5GHz at full signal strength. But my Asus Z170i Pro Gaming mobo had poor detection of 5GHz band signal.
Update the wireless card driver solved the issue.

Just bought this cooler & attached it to the back of WS880, currently it's blowing into the router
Temperature reduced from 72°C to 67°C
5°C temperature differences

After this will try to put the fan as exhaust, will update which method works best

Mine only mobile phone is connected to 5GHz. My laptop is a 5 years old laptop, so still 2.4GHz. So far OK since I changed in the afternoon. biggrin.gif

I am using Channel 11, so far for me i would use a wifi analyzer to scan my neighborhood to see which channel is widely used (usually the default ones) and then change mine to the least used one.

Yes, I used the app too earlier and noticed my neighborhood is very quiet, not congested at all. laugh.gif
Anyway, I was using channel 11 all this while for many many years then itchy hand and switched to channel 6, then problem came. laugh.gif Now OK already after I switched back to channel 11. tongue.gif
