A nice tidy RM600 profit there, for whoever's making that profit anyway.

RM600? I think it could be RM800-900. Easy money indeed.

Guys ~!

Dont mean to be a party pooper, but the next iPhone update will disable those "unlocked" iPhones. From there onwards, updating will be impossible if you still wanna use it. Moreover, you will have to sacrifice all those new functions and fixed bug errors.

New Hacks might be available in no time. But I think it's still a gamble for now.

Don't you think it's time to reconsider our options?

First of all, DONT UPDATE!

What particular features worth upgrading are we talking about here? iTunes Wifi Store and international keyboards, minor bugfixes.

Personally:-

My iTunes Store is on my UMPC, as portable as my iPhone. First feature fired down.

International keyboards? I dont live in Germany, Russia, or France where QWERTY is QWERTZ or such. 2-0!

Bugfixes? Im happy with the current stability of the iPhone, even with the 3d part applications on it.

Now, unless Apple's unleashing something they kept so secret and so much wanted in this update, that i literally have to squirm to get it done, something as desirable as a new Bluetooth stack with OBEX/push profile, ....anything other than the mere skeletal-stack that the iPhone has now, the solution is easy......DONT UPGRADE! Is iTunes Store available even here that you are so desperate on getting it? If you are using Apple Gift Cards, is the Redeem feature available on the simplified iTunes Wifi Store? Think, people......THINK!

The current 3rd party apps that are available, literally hundreds of them, offers much more possibilities in features than a singular iTunes Wifi Store. I may sing a different tune once the Dev Team cracked the new firmware and made the iTunes Wifi Stores and other update features available, but until then, im not gasping for breath desperate for this update. Jeeeeeeezzz! rolleyes.gif

EDIT: The Dev Team already responded with their hot-on-Apple's heels move to relock the iPhone back to virgin unlocked state once the new firmware hits, so that you can update your iPhone without worry. It is only amatter of patience and time, while they come up with the new unlock for this new relock. In the mean time, go play with your unlocked phones and be happy with it. The new updates arent worth that much to drool over, all IMO.

Added on September 26, 2007, 5:12 pmAlso, dont you think that, if you delay your purchase further, you are CONFIRMED to get the 1.1.1 update embedded in your purchased iPhone, compared to buying it now and get the currently available 1.0.2 iPhones NOW which is unlockable. Talk about waiting and waiting but still unable to do jack $hit about doing what matters most here: USING your iPhone! IF you're still thinking of waiting, then by all means, wait till the Asian version comes out, and PRAY that THAT version is available to your telco of choice here, and not LOCKED to a telco you're currently not using now. By then, guess what? You are still WAITING, while others are already utilising their iPhones. Good luck WAITING!

the iphone dev team has promised that they'll release something that'll allow hacked iphones to be restored to factory presets, to allow for firmware updates.. like jobs said, it's definitely a cat and mouse game... each time a new firmware is released, it'll surely be hacked, then the hack will be disabled by newer firmware, hacked again, and the cycle goes on and on...

owners of hacked iphones should be aware of these developments, and not expect their phones to work without problems... I'm not too worried about most of the iphone owners here, coz u all should know well enough not to simply update to the new firmware until it's proven to be safe... However, i'm sure there's bound to be people who'll brick their iPhones, especially those who don't do their research... Imagine those gullible people who paid sky-high prices for their iPhones (like those who paid RM4000++ for unlocked sets)... these are the kind of people who'll be gullible enough to happily click click click in anticipation of having updated firmware, only to find out that it'll brick their phones...

Owning an unlocked iPhone has always been a gamble, and always will be a gamble... it's just a matter of how smart you are to deal with the risks... You can't keep on reconsidering your options all the time, coz it's a never ending chase between Apple and the hackers...

Asian version, historically will always be more expensive. 22% more.

Maxis still no call-in, the rest okay.

The "rules of engagements" here is not similar between PSP and iPhone. DMCA, the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, in addition to localised laws PROHIBITS locking of a phone , and if such acts are present, a process of legally unlocking the phone to be made used on fair and equal basis among all available telcos , should be made available should the consumer choses to. Such luxury are not available for the PSP, since no such bill of rights are made available for the PSP platform, which is wholly owned by Sony.

For an even simpler explanation, it involves 4 letter word :DMCA

The only thing you void is that warranty.
Once there's a re-lock app available, it should be ok to revert back to virgin.

Wwarranty which is void , once you bring that black box containing the iPhone, 1mm outside the US border. So for those who play the waiting game, i can only understand your logic and reasoning behind the wait if you're waiting for a localised launch, and not whether to see if the new update is hackable or not. Because i can safely say now that the iPhone, unlocked now, is very much usable as it is intended to be. Period.

Not affordable for me as well. RM3.2k? For IPhone, max I would go for would be RM2.2k. It comes with only 2.0MP camera and without 3G. Well, it's my personal opinion...

There should be a international support, this is a mobile device, you can't expect ppl to use it in US only. I havn't got mine, maybe those that have it should check with Apple Care call center regarding this.

Hi akihito,

How much you bought the phone in ebay? I remembered seeing a seller who guarantees no tax and will reimburse the tax (with receipt of tax; under table not included).
