Guys, just some quick question regarding to 478 procs. Im currently owning two 478 procs. Which are 3.0E (12caps) that im using now, and another 3.0C (30caps). Both of this procs are running on same speed, and HT enable. The different just the L2 cache. 3.0E having 1M while the other 3.0C was only 512kb. I was wander, which procs deal and giving better performance. Ofcause in this case i dont put OC into. Due the 3.0C was having 30caps i believe it can do more then the other one.

u got 30caps proc??my suggestion is, OC it!!!good overclockable proc u have there. regarding ur Q, there's not much diff between 512kb or 1Mb, unless in some applications, but the diff is slightly noticeable...

ur 3.0C much more better in term of lower power used which mean less heat... somemore, highly overclockable which i think really kick ass if u oc it more....

edit: i just saw ur siggy, u got asus p4p800 deluxe, great mobo.very2 wasting if u r not using it for oc....

Well i just wanted to know the raw performance of this two procs running in stock speed. The differences is the cache memory only. Hm.. I wasnt a hardcore gamer. Mostly did some 2D light gaming such like maple story . Mostly of the time i just do surfing and chatting.

Ever plan to do OC for my current rigs, due the parts are suitable for it. But yet did i cos still in saving money to get better casing and cooling before i can did OC for it.

honestly, 3.0E and 3.0C perform neck to neck. but if i have the same rig as yours, i will go for the 30cap cpu and oc it till the last drop.

Yup.. Haha! I thought i had sold it long time ago. But few days ago i did my room cleaning and found it lie on the drawer for ages. Tested and it still running fine. Keep as backup procs.

But anyways, thanks for ya advise. Planning to change procs once i got enough money for better casing. Atm, my hyper 6+ still cant really give the best shoot yet. Due my old casing was "bottleneck" the cooler. Too pack and causing the air flow not smooth. My 3.0E (prescott) running on 36-37'c on idle. Full load reach 48 highest.

FYI, 3.0E vs 3.0C at stock, the Northwood still win in most applications

3.0E however is 90nm, thus you can scale it quite high too since its a Prescott. Thats where the 1MB will show its power, OC it

As for the Northwood 30 caps M0 stepping, its a rare gem. Can hit very high speeds

prescott will shine when fsb is higher due to oc limit is higher. with good cooling, it can break 4ghz barrier. Its quite hard for northwood to get 4GHz.

Hmm... Seems like both of the procs got their pros and cons. Btw, just wander anybody here using hyper 6+ this cooling system? Whts the minimum temperature that u guys ever archive?

Nice processor and mobo you have there. like everyone said, it is a waste if you dont OC it. haha

Just for comparison, I use a CM Hyper 48 with a Tt SMart Fan 2 at full speed. If room temps 38C stock clock 2.8C.

Wao cool,30capper 3.0C.Why not go into overclocking?I think should be very easy to get 3.6GHz with your board.Besides what type of RAM chip are you using ?Good RAM can push up your clocking also.

is this ok ar? i duno if i should push more ade....coz im using stock heatsink

I think if you have time and effort, try push both to the max, see which 1 is better. 30cap of coz is nice. but if 3.0E can go pass 4ghz its sweet as well. Share your oc experience when you proceed. Hyper 6+ is quite a nice HFS.

Haha.. Yea! Act its my fren's proc. He burned his board and change to another rigs. Then sold me this procs for RM200 two years ago. But i was forgotten where i keep it. Recently then found. Hehe.. Hmm.. My ram? Currently running on mixed 2x kingston 256mb and 2x hynix 256mb. Both are dual channel with same CL. Dont dare to OC due the ram was from same factory. Actually my current rigs was from emmeir (one of the forumer here. )

hows the idle temp and load temp? how long can you prime with that speed?

Nice oc, i think you can get higher. But better keep your eyes on the temp. i saw its 51C already at the corner there with your prime on idle. try to make sure that load temp is always below 60.

its time for you get a better HFS.

with hyper 6+ the temp shouldnt be a big problem. promised that case airflow is good.

Yup.. Well well.. U know i know. Kuching pc parts price are insane. I went to compumart past 2 week and ask about 7600GT price. Guess how much they told me? 650 and need order. Thats crazy.

Lol.. Learning now. But need time to to practical. Pray that my board dont burned out during test time!

This rigs? Hmm.. The prcos and mobo cost me around 500 lo. Resonable la hor? haha.. But i think its worth. Seems the mobo are extremely rare to find nowdays.

Now really dont dare to do OC yet. Provided i got a better casing then i will try it. Currently using cap palang casing which are too small too pack. The cooler itself are big already. Haha.. But still can maintain stock temperature in between 36-38 lo. Due to Prescott core = heat monster. Haha.

fylon, make sure u got good PSU also...this will bring stability to ur system...
