Why both of you don't understand the cash value of the points?

When the price of petrol goes down, the exchange rate of points to cash does not change.

If I give you jave 3000 points for RM45 petrol now, is there any difference you use it to buy petrol now and later? Come give example again, let's say today is RM1/litre, tomorrow is RM2/litre.

Let's say you pump today 45 litres and tomorrow 45 litres.

Scenario 1:-
Use the points today (since today is cheap!). Tomorrow you will have to pay RM90 cash.

Scenario 2:-
Use RM45 cash today. Tomorrow you will have to top up RM45 cash while using those 3000 points.

In BOTH cases you have used RM90 and all your points. The points are directly worth cash, you get the SAME cash value no matter if you use them when price is low or high.
*
LostAndFound is correct. 3000 points can convert to RM45 petrol. It is always RM45 petrol.
I tried very hard to explain to my girlfriend as well.

no way someone can accumulate 3000 points in one day. I almost use 1 or 2 year time just to get up the point up to 3k or 4k.

My post earlier was saying, those with points in cards better redeem now since fuel price is the lowest and next month may goes up.

then suddenly u throw in a statement saying no different claim now or later.

making my head almost burst

QUOTE(stargate8 @ Mar 24 2016, 03:26 PM)
RM45 / 1.60 per liter = 28.125 liter
RM45 / 1.80 per liter = 25 liter

so pls note that there's difference...

OT: if oil price maintain above USD38, next month may need to pay 1.85 or 1.80 per liter
*
he meant no difference in terms of overall, not per single transaction.

for example:
scenario 1, if you pay now rm45 at rm1.60 rate and received 28.125 litre of petrol. you redeem 3k points next month (assume the price at rm1.80 rate) and received 25 litre. so you paid rm45 and get 53.125 litre of petrol of petrol in these 2 months.

scenario 2, you redeem 3k points now for rm45 at rm1.60 rate and received 28.125 litre of petrol. you paid rm45 next month (assume the price at rm1.80 rate) and received 25 litre. so you paid rm45 and get 53.125 litre of petrol of petrol in these 2 months.

so either way, you are paying rm45 and get 53.125 litre of petrol.

But RM45 petrol in litres is different each month as it is based on the petrol per liter price each month.

yes, in a way, it's good to accumulate points when petrol price is high and redeem when petrol price is low.

Actually, when we redeem 3000 points to pump RM45 petrol, we will get 45 points as well.

you just need a very simple mind set.

today car no fuel, i have to refuel it, so no matter i choose redeem point or pay by cash/credit card...

I WILL STILL GET RM45 value of fuel.

well, when the quota of CB finished for that month... instead of paying cash, redeem the points! the WISE way...

It's interesting to see the argument about using point first or using cash first. That's totally no difference at all in value term except for time value of money which you use up your points first and put your RMxx amount of petrol money into savings account for another 1 day or couple of days, which might earn you nothing to few cents of interest. Cheers. biggrin.gif

I'm confused with the scenarios given:. Just very simple.. Treat the points redemption as cash voucher.. Y make it so complicated to count on how many litres of petrol u got? Forever ur 3k points = RM45 petrol cash voucher.. Simple and straight forward.. Unless Petron or bhp revised their points redemption requirement..

just want to comment in overall.

If you have point to redeeem, just redeem it, no point to keep the point.
Who know the point redemption will changed. Always use the point instead of cash.
Better keep the cash in own pocket instead of point.

Actually, cash also another problem, when RM is going down.

Haiya.. why u guys discuss about pump using point when low price or high price better??
For those that kiasu, they will pump when lower price because they think is cheaper.. no harm doing that since u dont lost anything..
for me,
by matematic.. u get more petrol when u pump at lower price.
by economy.. the unspend RM45 will use to buy petrol at higher price later.

So no matter hows, unless this is the last time u need to pump petrol.. then u need to get those petrol at lowest rate for the RM45 point.. if u need to pump petrol again, there is no different if you pump now of pump later... still RM45 worth of petrol...
