Diehard will find way to import, example purchase from Amazon UK or eBay UK once available... but no warranty as sending back is not feasible due to expensive courier charges...

whats the pros of STR over RX models that you have stated?

I think it's a Sony thing bro, sentimental feeling because major household with AVR used Sony (budget compare to those THX certified Denon, Pioneer etc) during 1990s - 2000s.

Does anyone have any idea if the upcoming 2023 Sony AVRs will be available in Malaysia?

For sure Sony Malaysia won't be bringing them in... just wondering if the home theater shops will (or if they are able to)

Very seriously considering getting the Yamaha RX-A6A very soon... but I actually prefer the Sony STR-AZ5000ES

Haven't seen Sony AVR for decades here. 100% chance it's not coming.

The reviews for these new Sony AVRs got me intrigued, especially with their 360 spatial sound which impressed even Shane Lee.

It's designed to work in tandem with the PS5's Tempest 3D audio engine to create a more realistic sound field.

I am also interested in their support for dual center speakers... one placed above and one placed below the TV.

I have always been on Yamaha... so looking for something different. Plus these are Sony ES components, so memang can tahan 20-30 years.

That said... I am not diehard enough to pay through my nose just to import an AVR. Besides costly shipping, the custom duties won't be cheap either.

It's unfortunate because previously Sony tried to dabble in Hi-Fi and home theater (~2016), no one cared enough to look at their products. They did bring in a few units of the DN1060 and DN1070, but sales for them were next to zero.

Everyone only knew how to look at a soundbar due to the fear of "too many cables, hassle to setup" mentality. Even their surprisingly well performing speakers - which I still think is best bang for the buck speakers today; the SS CS series didn't sell enough for Sony to bring in their higher end stuff.

A pair of SSCS5 bookshelves and a Sony DN1060 AVR back then was only RM3k, which is the same price as their flagship soundbar at the time (forgot the dumb model name), but the bookshelves performed in a whole different league. Yet people went for the soundbar because it has more "features" and more "speakers" lol. rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the background story smile.gif

The soundbar mentality is here to stay... it's a good solution for secondary screens... just not a proper "home theater"

So essentially you're saying it's impossible for me to get the new Sony AVRs in Malaysia la?

Any chance of it showing up in Singapore? tongue.gif

If I wait for this year's KLIAV show would there be any chance of a change? (e.g. someone becoming a distributor of these AVRs)

I know I am grasping at straws here...

the distributor doesnt takes in new brand just because of KLIAV.. sony is complicated as they have their brand rooted in malaysia with malaysia registered company unlike the other brand like Denon, Marantz that needs to be imported under distributorship.. if these set of AVR were to arrive i believe very likely it will be imported by Sony (Sony Electronic Malaysia Sdn Bhd) themselves.. i dont recall sony was part of KLIAV by a brand of their own

I went last year, I would say impossible to see Sony AVR, Sony TV and soundbar yes.
Popular brand here still Denon, Marantz, Yamaha and last year Onkyo made a come back.
