2nd hand Q Acoustics 2010i for around RM400+. Is it worth to buy or slightly expensive? Thanks in advance!
*
QA 2010i too small, bass will be very limited. Plays vocal nice tho...

Q Acoustics 3020 or Dali Spektor 2? Which is the better performance or value for money?

With subwoofer? Coz QA bookshelf has less bass, so if have subwoofer then can ignore this shortfall.

Is it worth to upgrade bookshelf speaker with 5.25" 65Hz -3dB to bookshelf speaker 6.5" 45Hz -3dB? Does the -20Hz difference have big impact on perceived bass?

Too vague of a question. Please be specific in regards from speaker to speaker. Understand that specs given are also to be taken with a grain of salt.

Generally a 6.5" woofer will have more bass presence than a 5.25" one, but it also does depend on the material for the cone used, it does depend on the crossover network, it does depend on the cabinet size and design as well.
*
Yeah agree.
I'm trying to understand is there any specific low frequency range most music tends to focused instead of sub-bass? Some says the details under 70Hz is very rare?

Sound United to acquire Onkyo and Pioneer consumer audio divisions

By Joe Cox 15 May 2019

The parent company of Denon and Marantz looks set to add Onkyo and Pioneer to its portfolio
Another AV industry shake-up is on the way with the news that Sound United has set the wheels in motion to acquire the consumer audio divisions of venerable Japanese brands, Onkyo and Pioneer.

A statement released today calls it a "preliminary agreement", ahead of negotiating definitive terms, with the deal set to include the Onkyo, Pioneer, Pioneer Elite and Integra brands.

The acquisition would cause plenty of crossover in certain AV categories, notably in the home cinema receiver market. Sound United already owns the Denon and Marantz brands, as well as Polk Audio, Classe, Definitive Technology and Boston Acoustics.

However, the release suggests that the company will be aiming at the wireless smart speaker and soundbar categories, with Sound United "eager to invest in the development of new products with the added benefit of Onkyo and Pioneer’s extensive legacy of innovation".

Kevin Duffy, CEO, Sound United, commented: "Sound United is one of the leading dedicated providers of premium audio/video products, and we believe the combined businesses will bring unrivaled innovation and sound performance to our consumers and channel partners."

Onkyo Corporation will retain the rights to the Pioneer and Onkyo brands for the purposes of their Digital Life and Embedded Audio businesses. Digital Life focuses on portable media players and micro systems. European distribution will be retained by Austrian company, Aqipa GmbH.

It's the latest phase in a tumultuous period for the AV brands, which hark back to Pioneer selling its AV business to Onkyo back in 2014.

Sound United is a subsidiary of DEI Holdings, a portfolio company of US private equity firm, Charlesbank Capital Partners. The company acquired D+M Group, which includes Denon, Marantz and Boston Acoustics, back in 2017.

The next stage of the acquisition looks set to be the Onkyo Corporation's AGM on 26th June. So watch this space.

hi, i a newbi here,

any recommendation for a decent AV receiver for listen to radio to place in living room?
not keen for boomboomboom set up as my parent dont like loud sound as they said their heart will pump out..
*
Don't want boom boom bass can try audition Onkyo brand in Direct Mode with 2.0 stereo speaker setup. Onkyo Direct Mode is very flat and crisp clear, some likes it saying less coloration, some dislikes saying lack of bass.

Usually this kind of Home Theater in the Box have some weird proprietary cables, or non-common impedance output (3 ohm). There would be limitation or choice in future if you plan to upgrade speaker or receiver faulty.

Perhaps you can getting started with a proper entry level AV Receiver such as Denon AVR-X250BT 5.1, match with some 6.5" bookshelf speaker for front, which barely falls within your RM2k budget. When you have more budget you can slowly add subwoofer, center speaker, rear surround speaker etc... just my suggestion. smile.gif

doubt there will be any discount.
unfortunately, AV gears are deemed like luxury gears in malaysia  rclxub.gif  , while 11.11 is meant for poorfags who's looking for good deals  cry.gif .
the only time things are slightly cheaper is during the KLIAV show, but that also on common gears.
*
Yeah, here things are overpriced. I found a few amplifiers at Singapore, China cost RM3k+ after currency conversion, here selling RM6k. Guess 11.11 sale max give you RM500 discount still also 2k more expensive than overseas.

Is sony ss-cs5 speakers ok as a budget choice?
*
You didn't state your budget and current audio components...
Sony SS-CS5 is only "passive" speaker which required amplifier to power it, so you already have AV Receiver with Dolby Atmos support and other Atmos-supported speaker as well?

No AVR or any audio system at all.. I don't even know Sony ss-cs5 need amplifier. Cheapest Dolby Atmos avr I find is Onkyo
*
Yes it requires amplifier because it's "passive speaker". If you buy this speaker and AVR, it would be 2.0 setup. So in order to enjoy Dolby Atmos you still need to get subwoofer, surround speakers etc.

If you want powered speaker, you can look for Edifier, Audioengine etc.

Both marantz & denon  are good at movie & music.  Their  different characteristic  aim for different taste of people.  Nothing wrong for exciting sound or Warmer sound when playback Celion Dion concert.  smile.gif
*
I think with exciting sound Celine Dion's My Heart will Go On will be faster pace, rushing to jump out from the ship.
With Warmer sound the pace could be slower, romantic love scene, drawing picture..

No, you get the cable that is suitable for the length you are planning to run.

Here is a brief guide about the gauge and length you need to get -https://www.audioholics.com/audio-video-cables/speaker-wire-gauge

Hi, any difference for speaker wire used in car audio vs home audio? Also is it better to use ofc type to reduce corrosion?
