I am a new Uber driver however after 250 trips I feel it is not worth the effort of providing this service considering the following:

1. low fare
2. 25% Uber fees
3. petrol
4. increase in car mileage (need frequent servicing)
4. car wear & tear
5  man hours
6. Internet data charges
7. call charges
8. Toll for pick-up or return trips
9. Riders canceling trips when almost reach their destination.
10.Harassment from interested parties

Anyway this is my opinion. Hope to hear from others who may have similar ideas or experiences.
*
1 & 2 - yes, agreed. Lucky I am still under old rate, 20%.
3 - recover from ride rclxm9.gif But, monthly fluctuation on petrol price sweat.gif
4. - yes, accelerate maintenance frequency, used to every 4 months once, now every 2 months (and I am driving part time only, weekend)
5. - what job don't need man hours one. Of course the man hour for uber is not that great anyway.....similar to maybe junior exec pay only. Pro is the flexibility, depends how rajin u r, although you max out, also maybe senior exec level pay (have not deduct cost yet)
6. - even you don't drive, you still use it anyway. Uber Partner app and waze very low usage on data only, negligible
7. - I hardly call also. Anyway, negligible for me, mine is post paid, unlimited call and sms
8. - If you unlucky, station in those area every where got toll, can't help it. Else, you can just ignore. Lucky mine, not much these situation
9. - Yes, happened, but, not always. But, I will definitely raised a complain.
10. - Touch wood, never kena. Got to street smart lah

Conclusion - based on my 5 months driving uber, combination of part time and full time, good for flexibility, no pressure, no stress. Con is that earning not that great (as least not as what Uber want us to believe or many people say) compare to the effort put in (time). After driving for long hours (>4 hours, sometimes feel stiff, imagine sitting 4 hours with limited movement, unlike in office environment. Request is frequent, max only 5 min for toilet break). It just barely able to break-even, cover petrol, car maintenance, mobile charges, which all inclusive of personal usage, but this is at current petrol RM1.70/l. To cover for car installment, definitely NO. Full time employment NO, unless I am currently earning less than RM2k.

Q1&2 low fare & 25% Uber fees
apparently you have not put enough effort in studying their incentive plan

Q3&4 petrol, frequent servicing, car wear & tear
drive a fuel efficiency car
drive a car where you can get parts easily
chose a car with the least yearly depreciation
i think the most suitable car is Perodua Axia or Myvi,
disadvantage is :-
-can't load much luggage during airport trip
-there are “generous” riders who are “kind enough” to give you 1 star simply because you drive a Axia or Myvi

Q5  man hours
I think most job require man hours, except for those who are born with a silver spoon

Q6&7 Internet data charges & call charges
Digi new plan, RM80/month (10G data + unlimited call)

Q10 Harassment from interested parties
I DON'T NEED SEX, MY GOV F*** ME EVERYDAY!  ranting.gif

1 & 2. Of course I am aware of the incentives but it comes with T & C. Uber doesn't simply give away the perks. You need to hit certain no of trips, be at the right location and time. This is not practical for office based part-timers. Try on 25% Uber fee you will feel the pinch.

3 & 4. Axia or Myvi doesn't provide the comfort needed by riders if more than 2 people and room for baggage is a problem for airport riders.

5. As for manhours, you need long manhours like 14 hrs if you were to earn Rm250 a day as quoted by the originator of this thread. No consideration of health and good rest here obviously.

6 &7. You still need to pay DIGI so that is a cost too.

10. Don't understand what you are implying.

Bear in mind comes 2017, SPAD's rationalisation exercise where all ride sharing companies to comply with commercial license, Puspakom inspection and GST of 6 % requirements would further aggravate the situation.

Just to share, expat riders whom I engage during my trips often pass remarks that Uber is exploiting Malayisan drivers by paying peanuts. I told them that the choice is up to the individuals but yet again they say that drivers should not stoop so low for anything. Well, I think at end of the day you decide your destiny.

Well, are you sure just Uber only? I would say almost everything, so long as you work for others aka employee. Ok, maybe 90%. But, what choice do you have? When you got mouth to feed, stomach to be filled, commitment to be meet, it mere survival.....like it or not. Those expat, in return for them to live in "lesser advanced" countries, they can live like king here, with their huge income (due to currency rate advantage), accommodation fully paid, transportation covered, virtually almost everything is covered by company, their salary just for their expenses, of course they can said that lah.....some even more luckier, they have separate income back home, for their retirement, so called to matched back their "home" salary package.

Anyway, ultimately, the choice is yours......whether it is worthwhile continue driving or not, it individual choice. But, claim that driving Uber can earn a comfortable earning, that's bullshit. What I like about uber it just flexibility, and I'm tired with corporate rat race. I rather have lower income than higher stress in corporate world, even though my income had drop considerably, so long as I am able to maintain my lifestyle that I want.

I'm at the verge of quitting the corporate rat race and to do uber. Is it worthwhile to go full-time and be still able to live comfortably from this ?

Well, you need to consider the pros and cons before you decide on full time

Pros
1. Flexible hours
2. You are the Boss of your own.
3. No paperwork or reporting
4. No income tax for now
5. Opportunity for networking

Cons
1.Low base rates compare to taxi
2 Uber commission fee too high 25%
3 Pay own internet/ phone charges
4.No fixed income
5.No EPF/SOCSO
6 No insurance/hospitalisation or medical benefits
7.Long working hours to meet a set target
8.Car wear and tear & fast depreciation
9.Account deactivation if drop below average rating
10.Harassment from taxi drivers and others
11. Officially not legal

In future may subject to 6%GST, possess commercial license puspakom inspection, etc
