I am a new Uber driver however after 250 trips I feel it is not worth the effort of providing this service considering the following:

1. low fare
2. 25% Uber fees
3. petrol
4. increase in car mileage (need frequent servicing)
4. car wear & tear
5 man hours
6. Internet data charges
7. call charges
8. Toll for pick-up or return trips
9. Riders canceling trips when almost reach their destination.
10.Harassment from interested parties

Anyway this is my opinion. Hope to hear from others who may have similar ideas or experiences.

Q1&2 low fare & 25% Uber fees
apparently you have not put enough effort in studying their incentive plan

Q3&4 petrol, frequent servicing, car wear & tear
drive a fuel efficiency car
drive a car where you can get parts easily
chose a car with the least yearly depreciation
i think the most suitable car is Perodua Axia or Myvi,
disadvantage is :-
-can't load much luggage during airport trip
-there are “generous” riders who are “kind enough” to give you 1 star simply because you drive a Axia or Myvi

Q5  man hours
I think most job require man hours, except for those who are born with a silver spoon

Q6&7 Internet data charges & call charges
Digi new plan, RM80/month (10G data + unlimited call)

Q10 Harassment from interested parties
I DON'T NEED SEX, MY GOV F*** ME EVERYDAY!  ranting.gif

1 & 2. Of course I am aware of the incentives but it comes with T & C. Uber doesn't simply give away the perks. You need to hit certain no of trips, be at the right location and time. This is not practical for office based part-timers. Try on 25% Uber fee you will feel the pinch.

3 & 4. Axia or Myvi doesn't provide the comfort needed by riders if more than 2 people and room for baggage is a problem for airport riders.

5. As for manhours, you need long manhours like 14 hrs if you were to earn Rm250 a day as quoted by the originator of this thread. No consideration of health and good rest here obviously.

6 &7. You still need to pay DIGI so that is a cost too.

10. Don't understand what you are implying.

Bear in mind comes 2017, SPAD's rationalisation exercise where all ride sharing companies to comply with commercial license, Puspakom inspection and GST of 6 % requirements would further aggravate the situation.

Just to share, expat riders whom I engage during my trips often pass remarks that Uber is exploiting Malayisan drivers by paying peanuts. I told them that the choice is up to the individuals but yet again they say that drivers should not stoop so low for anything. Well, I think at end of the day you decide your destiny.

I'm at the verge of quitting the corporate rat race and to do uber. Is it worthwhile to go full-time and be still able to live comfortably from this ?
*
Well, you need to consider the pros and cons before you decide on full time

Pros
1. Flexible hours
2. You are the Boss of your own.
3. No paperwork or reporting
4. No income tax for now
5. Opportunity for networking

Cons
1.Low base rates compare to taxi
2 Uber commission fee too high 25%
3 Pay own internet/ phone charges
4.No fixed income
5.No EPF/SOCSO
6 No insurance/hospitalisation or medical benefits
7.Long working hours to meet a set target
8.Car wear and tear & fast depreciation
9.Account deactivation if drop below average rating
10.Harassment from taxi drivers and others
11. Officially not legal

In future may subject to 6%GST, possess commercial license puspakom inspection, etc

biggrin.gif As mentioned earlier lor, uber is just like any work, u got to put in effort to earn a living lor.....if anyone buy into uber partner recruitment marketing strategy, hope earning easy money with minimal work, they will come out sorely disappointed lor. The only advantage of uber i can see is the flexibility and relatively stress free (with exception of harassment by taxi drivers), in return of trade-off in low income, i.e. comparable lah if you work in McD or KFC  laugh.gif

Want to earn a lot with minimal effort driving Uber, I wish I know that strategy also, doubt those driver who are there willing to tell me.

Work during the surge hours and try to meet incentive criteria to earn more but then again may not be possible for part-time partners.

Tomorrow I am on leave so planning to try from 6 -10 am and then from 4 to 8pm in order to test how true it is that you can earn high during these peak hours.

Any advise?

took me only max 2 days to realize that driving uber isnt going cut it.

It would be delusional to think of it as a job,

and insanity to think of it as a business, most of them do not know how to even define 'business' properly.

however its absolutely rational if u think of it as a form of 'voluntarily slavery'. I mean, come on, life has so much to offer you, why do you have to treat yourself cheaply, like sold your life to uber?

having said that, uber is indeed a paradise for passenger. I just wrote these out of pity of drivers who are hard working as if they have no other alternatives, these bunch of hardworking people deserve more than just these peanut payout, however uber passenger is king.

Experience from last week's Uber service

Received a rider's call while I was on the road back to KL. Upon acceptance I realised that the rider was as far as 8km. Due to obligation I picked up the rider from UM faculty and dropped him off at his on-campus residential block which was less than 1.3km. The fare was RM 3.18 and uber fees rm.0.80. The rider paid in cash and walked away smiling, probably thinking it was the cheapest taxi ride ever.

What I understood is that the area of coverage should not be beyond 3.5km radius from your location, isn't it? Lately I often get calls as far as 9km.

On a second incident, I picked up a rider who was going from Jln Changat Bukit Bintang to Marc Residence Jln Pinang. The fare showed on the app was RM 1.65 when I pressed collect cash. The rider paid cash RM2 and asked me to keep the change. However when I checked the app this morning it was a different fare RM5 and Uber fees RM 1.25.

I feel this is really an insult and thinking of giving up all together.

I am proposing to Uber to impose a surge or minimum fare of RM 5 for trips less than 2km to avoid Uber driver's frustration and protect his or her interest and dignity.

Fetched a rider (Mat Salleh) from Jln Changkat (BB) to Jln Pinang (near KLCC).

Upon pressing collect cash, the amount showed was RM 1.65. He paid RM 2 and some more ask me to keep the change.

He probably laughed his ass off afterwards.

I feld this was the biggest insult of my life.

it is guarantee hourly gross fares.

https://newsroom.uber.com/malaysia/uberx-ho...ntees-may-2016/

if you drive in those hours and your gross fare collected is less than the guarantee hourly gross fare, Uber will top up the fare.
the same color is 1 block.
in this case, 6-10 is a block, 10-4 is a block, 4-8 is a block, 9 is a block.

there are other T&C to be fulfifilled.
As shared by other Uber Partners, after fulfill this T&C, you are hardly enjoy the PHG. It only serve as a safety net.

Hi there,

Thank you for the clarification. However, I think this is applicable more to full time drivers.

My weekend experience.

1. An African couple pinged me to pick-up from One World Hotel, BU. I arrived at the lobby and called them. The man answered saying he will be down soon. I said" soon but cut short of asking how long", he ended the cal abruptly. So waited for about 10 min, they came down with bags.

After putting their bags in the boot, they both got into my car and sat on the back seat. The lady said "drive fast"

My pressure went up immediately as she said drive fast. Politely I started to advise that our roads are bound by speed limits and I have to adhere these rules so I cant drive fast. This got her annoyed and started mumbling at the back. Her boyfriend who was on the phone the minute he got in later tried to calm the situation down and said please drive as fast as possible.

Without uttering further, I just drove normally and dropped them off at their destination. There was no any expression of courtesy when they left.

2. I was at Jln Nagasari when I received a call from a rider (Caucasian lady) asking to pick-up from Jln Changkat. It was a busy Saturday night with heavy traffic. So I drove through the back lane to avoid the traffic. While on my way she called me and said you were 1 min away just now and now you are 5 min away and asked "are you coming. I said" I am stucked in the jam and on the way. I explained to her that I tried avoiding the traffic in order to get to her fast and in the queue now heading towards her. She sounded drunk and started to accuse me of lying and went on bitching and ended the call. Five minuted later she called again continued her abusive language on me. She said" I am fucking lying again" I told her she can cancel me if she cant wait which she did after a couple of minutes.

To avoid getting another request from her I went offline and moved along the jammed street. A few minutes later she saw my car from far and started confirming from her phone if I were her Uber driver. As i neared her she came to my passing car and knocked my door window but by then I have locked all my doors. I just waved at her indicating that I not interested and drove pass.

Moral of the story here is be polite, patient and be respectful. When riders get bossy or abusive or have a perception of master and slave mentality it get my blood boiling.

Mine dropped to 4.44 cause, couple of negative reports.
1. refused destination
2. not professionalism in attire.
3. got annoyed with a rider asking to pick at one location and then to pick him at different location.

i wear round-neck t-shirt, shorts and slippers all the time...but driving a pretty decent car...so far no ppl complain me on that hehe

Wearing long pants or slim fit short pants and driving for 10 to 12 hrs a day gives me an itch or uncomfortable around my groin/crotch area. Sometimes gets the horny feeling too.. biggrin.gif . Often I can't wait to go home to strip all bare and be free, Lol.

Heard on the radio this morning that a Grab car driver was attacked and his car was damaged by a group of taxi drivers. They also tried to confiscate his mobile phone at a shopping complex.

Hi Guys, if a driver cancelled trips, does the driver get penalized as well and if he does how do we know how much was deducted? Is this reflected in the weekly statement?

Those who have not started to be a Uber partner, please don't waste time, UBER pay peanuts. Its not worth and from my estimation in order to earn RM200, you have to work 12 to 14 hrs. Just my 2 cents.
