QUOTE(ymeng85 @ Jan 20 2020, 09:57 PM) Nice to have support from the forum all these years. Thanks guys Besides the expectations of better quality, the deal about supporting the small guys is it's usually self run by the roaster themselves or the boss at least - the person behind the concept and flavor of the coffee you are drinking. So if you get a bag from us, you're not just taking a bag and go home to figure it out yourself. You get to contact me to ask me about brew recipes, what you should expect and even feedback directly to the roaster man himself. We love it when customers come back and engage with us on this topic that we are so passionate about. We're minus the packaging and adverts and branding and all that. We are more interested in putting our craft and our proud creations out there than anything else. The close relationship matters the most, at least for me This. +1

QUOTE(shaniandras2787 @ Jan 18 2020, 12:20 PM) Ahh... fresh insight. I always thought that Starbucks would mess up less since they would have a more properly controlled roasting procedure as compared to sole-props. I'll probably try a pack from the recommended suppliers and see how it fair (once i've run down my current supply, of course). Speaking of which, just to survey. How much gram do you guys consume in a week - just needed a point to benchmark whether i'm consuming "normal" amounts. like other forumer said try get fresh roasted one. you can get online and if you are skeptical about it then go to their shop. quite a few coffee cafe roast their own bean but don't really sell online... some brand if you are in KL PPP NISY 103Coffee VCR RaFt

Check out the hub if you're really into filter coffees, they have at least 30 beans selection in their cafe and they do customize beans as well.

Check out the hub if you're really into filter coffees, they have at least 30 beans selection in their cafe and they do customize beans as well. I don't think 30 beans selection is true at all, they only accept 1KG and above for pre-order if you really want a particular bean (also subject to availbility). Normally when you ask for freshly roasted bean in 250 or 500g pack size ( few days old) they only have 2 or 3 selection. For beans that roasted for more than 2 weeks you might have more selection though. And sometimes they won't mention the beans is 2 weeks old and quietly packed it for you, so remember to double confirm on the roasted date.

Blaq coffee subscription at Bean Shipper. Smallest size for packs is 150g, IIRC.

I mean there's about 30 choices of filter coffee you can choose from if you're wanted to taste in the cafe. I agree on the roast date part, I think most roasters are doing the same. It's safer to double confirm on the roast day before purchasing. I think 1KG of beans are reasonable, since they are not really micro roaster. QUOTE(rach @ Jan 29 2020, 09:23 AM) Cool. Where did you buy ice dripper from? Bought it from taobao china. Had a friend carry over for me. You can try shipping directly from taobao, but the decanter is made of glass. A fun little device. Makes great nonbitter and fruity coffee with hint of fermentation note. Quite unique and imo can't be replicated by cold brew.

Do you count your espresso from first drip? I start the timer from the point i hit the brew button. That is also what is been done by the technical judge at the side during competitions But anyways, I've stopped doing timers at the shop but just go by weight alone. Haven't really detected huge variance in consistency so I'm guessing this is one of those 1%/2% ROI thing so really, it's up to you

QUOTE(4lt4ir @ Jan 29 2020, 08:11 PM) Thanks. Mind sharing your recipe with this ice dripper? Im using 210g ice cold water (from water dispenser) and 150g ice cubes. One paper filter at the bottom + 30g of grounded coffee (slightly coarser than v60) and a paper filter ontop the grind. Water speed let it run fast for awhile to wetten the coffee bed and then let it run at 5-6 droplets per 10 seconds. Extraction should take around 4-5 hours. Some say vinegar works, 50% vinegar + 50% water, soak for 30 minutes, then try clean again For maintenance, after each brewing, wipe and dry the moka pot. Learned my lesson for not wiping them dry, end up showing those spot too. But mine not as serious as yours.
