My sister's MBP HDD failed. Is there a way I can change it or I have to go through Apple? They're quoting RM700 for it.

QUOTE(remix2040 @ Jul 20 2016, 09:11 AM) They don't serve you only, your Highness. They have others too. 3 weeks is like an insurance policy. Maybe can be done in a week. Have to call them to find out. Ya, no choice. Need to wait. I bet they want to get it done asap too. Even shipping parts over they are giving themselves 10 days insurance policy even when they could get as fast as NBD. Anyway If I can get it on the 26th I will be super happy.Taking off battery is super easy and can be replaced under 10 minutes depending on your technical proficiency. For the newer models, they actually replace the entire topcase as it was glued with the battery. So it comes with new keyboard, and new trackpad as well. |

Even shipping parts over they are giving themselves 10 days insurance policy even when they could get as fast as NBD. Anyway If I can get it on the 26th I will be super happy. Most people just pry it off also. Since it's going to be removed and not to be used anymore. For the newer models, they actually replace the entire topcase as it was glued with the battery. So it comes with new keyboard, and new trackpad as well. Newer models I don't know loh haha |

QUOTE(INGfusion @ Jul 24 2016, 11:58 AM) My data only 80gb lol I stopped the restore. It extended to 300 hours lol my fault to restore to my super old hard disk. End up I cannot extract anything from the Time Machine Backup. My photo library corrupted. I just bought a new hard disk and I cannot transfer my stuff from the old hard to new hard disk. My photos are a gone case now 😔 PS. I suggest to get Time Capsule if you want long term. However, one thing to bear in mind is that you cannot switch back up devices once you've started backing up to one drive, like how I'm struggling right now. The only way is to buy a new drive and switch it to that drive and wipe the old one This post has been edited by remix2040: Jul 24 2016, 12:09 PM |

QUOTE(INGfusion @ Jul 24 2016, 11:58 AM) Go for hdd... Way much cheaper. The only 2 things that time capsule is superior than hdd is wireless backup, and as a wifi base station/extender. My experience of backing up wirelessly has been painful. I'd rather plug in hdd and do it manually. |

End up I cannot extract anything from the Time Machine Backup. My photo library corrupted. This is a genuine problem for time machine. Time capsule has the same issue also. Ended up I gave up backing up my Mac completely. Those essential files, I'll save in my cloud drives.I just bought a new hard disk and I cannot transfer my stuff from the old hard to new hard disk.
