My data only 80gb lol I stopped the restore. It extended to 300 hours lol my fault to restore to my super old hard disk. End up I cannot extract anything from the Time Machine Backup. My photo library corrupted.

I just bought a new hard disk and I cannot transfer my stuff from the old hard to new hard disk.

My photos are a gone case now 😔

PS. I suggest to get Time Capsule if you want long term. However, one thing to bear in mind is that you cannot switch back up devices once you've started backing up to one drive, like how I'm struggling right now. The only way is to buy a new drive and switch it to that drive and wipe the old one

Go for hdd... Way much cheaper.
The only 2 things that time capsule is superior than hdd is wireless backup, and as a wifi base station/extender. My experience of backing up wirelessly has been painful. I'd rather plug in hdd and do it manually.

This is a genuine problem for time machine. Time capsule has the same issue also. Ended up I gave up backing up my Mac completely. Those essential files, I'll save in my cloud drives.

For this purpose, I use drobo 5N.

Got this 3 years ago, direct shipping from USA (I really missed the time when USD1=RM3.20), Till now I only occupied 2 HDD slots: 4TB each). I still can add on another 3.

I gave up backing up my Mac 3 years ago because of the problem of transferring backup data from one external HD to another and I couldn't be bothered to use the Time Capsule. Hence, I've decided to make use of the iCloud facilities to store all my Apple backups and have been doing so ever since

I'm not sure about the price of a NAS now.
I bought this Drobo 3 years ago for RM2000+ (inclusive of shipping, approx RM 100 cheaper than local price).
It is superb.
The only issue is my MBP always lost its connection on the network especially when I put my MBP into sleep mode without disconnect it properly...

That's why people have hard line connections to the NAS haha tongue.gif

Well if they are that expensive, I might as well finish for my car parts first 😂

Hate using nas. Slow and unreliable. Prefer a usb docking station

Most if not all back up mediums are crappy no? Just down to which you prefer? Hahaha

I don't know much about NAS(es), I've never owned one. Planning to buy one.

If you don't mind the price, and if you are not using Streamyx, it is quite an excellent wifi base station.
You can access your wifi till second floor (not beyond that).
And if you are using Streamyx, you will still need a modem (not very sure about other broadband service provider).

Most of the service providers in Malaysia need a modem before connecting to the Airport Extreme.

I think you can connect AirPort Extreme directly to your modem without the router.
The broadband I am using is not fiber optic. I can't really comment on Unifi/Maxis fiber.

Try troubleshooting...
The configuration is not so straightforward.
If you still can't, then I guess you will need to add a router in between.
