I also think of putting a fan for my VIERA (Plasma) mounted on the wall.

Seems like very hot even though got ceiling fan on top of it...and I think this heat issue also got relate to the loud 'buzz' sound.

my PV70 no buzz, but i remember reading somewhere, others has buzz, loud infact, take back to panny
*
The 3 guys I know that bought PV70 (in malaysia) also said it buzz...but it doesn't buzz all the time. In a period of a few hours maybe once or twice (2~3 minutes of buzz sound).

Do you mount it to the wall or use its stand on a cabinet?

I think of returning it, but seems like in the internet most ppl. say even when they get it back or replace with a new unit, it still buzz.

So far after two calls to Panasonic seems like no one reply me back...i also afraid if the tech. comes there is no buzz cos' the buzz it only sometimes occurs for a short duration.

true also, bigger, but i prefer watchin on CRT, much more sharper
*
Thats depends on the input signals from the DVD or media and the LCD/Plasma engine.

AFAIK, since I'm using plasma, it is sharper than CRT...infact you can adjust the sharpnest until becomes over saturate, but if you are using pirated DVDs than its a different story.

I do agree older pirated movies have DVD9 copies, but for the latest titles, its actually VCD dubbed into DVD or satelite dubbed into DVD, hence, abit blur.

During that time I bought the Philips HTS, Sony had only the 1080i model (i know now got that 1080p model), it was 599 if I'm not mistaken...but then I was thinking, by adding another RM289, I can get a philips Home theater system with equal 1080i upscales.

Anyway the Philips HTS3357/98 is OKlah...

I bought my panny from SenQ, during that time, it was cheaper there.RM5499.

Now i heard the price at Jusco now oledi Rm4999. And still can get cheaper at Darson electronic (RM4699).

But frankly, the other 3 guys I know that bought the buzzing unit, 2 is from senQ, 1 is from Jusco.

Well, come to think of it, I'm not returning my unit, I'm so in love with the plasma set and abit of buzz once a while is OK. After all my fridge, ceiling fan, washing machine buzz louder.

SenQ warranty using manufacturer and AIG insurance, it also covers floods, lightning, theft etc, but take note, for AIG there is a minimum amount.
Same goes to courts, got minimum amount before can claim.
I'm not sure abt. Jusco.
Anyway, I got the 5 years one just incase the mobo or screen goes kaput smile.gif

Im aware that the best view distance for 42" plasma is 12 feets but the distance from my sofa to the wall is less than 8 feets. Should i stick to buy 42" or cancel my plan and buy 32" instead?
*
I'm watching my 42" from 9feet..
My tips...dun hang it too high on the wall...neck pains...

What you do is get a measuring tape. Sit down comfortably on your sofa. Measure you eye height from the floor. Now thats the center position your LCD/Plasma should be at.
Simple to say is the center part of the screen should be same height as your eyes.

But if you did your homework and bought the plasma/LCD, and in a few months it cost RM500~RM1000 lesser...dun be dishearted, just say to yourself, you did your best oledi.

If you space in small, then better get the home theater system with neat slim speakers and a boom box. Philips got very afforable ones.

But do check if you need a surround wireless setup. Those will save you alot of time laying down cables and spending more money. Its not as easy as it seems to fit a rear speakers and its cables.

so guys.... for plasma... hitachi is a good brand?
wat bout pioneer n panasonic?

among this 3 brands.... which would u choose?
any other brands i should consider for a plasma?
*
All good brands...WhatHifi rated the panny 42' (RM5000) as winner in the Budget 42' plasma category.
Whathifi also rated the pioneer (RM8999 I think) as the winner for the higher end 42' plasma category.

Hitachi is also a good buy. If you check Cnet asia, Hitachi is still tops...

But beware of philips, that brand is expensive...those that come with a budget price will give you budget performance.
LG also has plasmas going for a song...but check its engine...not the latest, and the older model looks yucks.

And dun forget about Sony, especially the D series. I dun like the V and S due to not 100hz...although colors nice but it flickers abit when the environment is dark.

If I got money I'll get the pioneer smile.gif then again, with that kinda money, I think can get a 46 incher...or a very good projector.

I forgot to add, the rear projector TV from Sony. Can get 50' at RM3999 (used to be RM5999)
The latest ones are not those blur, washed out or bulky types you see at the mamak shop.
But do check out how long the bulbs can last and how much it cost.
If you googled around, 50 inch 3LCD Projection TV by Sony dun have much bad review from its users.

Got more money to burn...go SXRD smile.gif

Cheers

Regarding the LG model, the sales guy said that LG works great with terrestrial TV antenna and color is good too.

CNY around the corner oledi...wait for festive discounts, compare prices and then get it....

But if you wanna show off your 42incher during CNY, make sure of the leadtime. Depending on location, sometimes it takes 2 weeks...but for KL I think no probs.

I have struck out plasma as my downlights will be a glare on the plasma.
Can anyone give any recommendations on what will be the best among those above for Astro and usual DVDs?

Really appreciate anyones advice. Thanks a million!
*
Hi, plasma have reflective displays, but manufacturers have cut down on the glare oledi.
Best if you go to those mega stores and check them out yourself before you judge plasmas to be glary.
Panasonic and Pioneer plasma are good examples of plasmas with anti glare coating or filters.

If you are into Astro and DVDs...get plasmas...

LCD are also good, but if you happen to have kids at home, hehe.. the first thing you should teach them is not use a pen/color pencil/crayon on the screen, that will ruin your set.
Children got alot of imagination...hehe...

You should ask her to chip in more money for the pioneer...since it cost almost twice of the panny smile.gif
