Some upscaling dvd players don't upscale that well via hdmi and the Bravia's upscaling performance is better than most entry level upscaling dvd players, you might be surprised. Try using component if you're Toshi is not up to the shop, let your LCD upscale it for you.

The new BE2 upscales SD sources much better than the previous Bravia series. Tested it with my Wii and PS2, can't agree, it looked much better when upscaled by the Bravia engine.

I guess that's what you should really do. Toshiba is probably using a low end solution (chip) to deinterlace and upscale.

Anyone knows of any dvd player with USB input that supports NTFS filesystem? My Pioneer only supports FAT32 and thus cannot transfer bluray size dvd to the portable USB (more than 4GB) drives.

Which model did you buy? There's a 5-star rated Toshiba upscale dvd player but I believe that model is not available here but only in the UK.

hear this : planning to get a HDTV from from CEs such as Panasonic, Pioneer etc but then dun plan to get a BD player. Since without BD - the tv will be a normal tv - then no point getting HDTV then. wink.gif

Excellent deal, I sold mine for RM270. RM200 is an excellent deal considering the unit is in good working condition.

Well, getting a HDTV does not necessarily mean you need to get a blu-ray player, you can get a PS3 and XBOX 360 and enjoy high-def next gen gaming or you may also connect it to a decent upscaled dvd player (it looks slightly better than a normal tv). Sooner or later, you'll be getting a blu-ray player since blu-ray titles are quite reasonable if you're buying them from Amazon.

I beg to differ. I am using Pioneer DV-676A and DV-400S. No problem at all.

My DV-989i sadly is pretty sensitive, can't play those TVB serials or those ahem dvd-rs. I guess it differs from one model to another. The best is Denon dvd players, they're not sensitive at all as they're using Panny pickup mechanism.

Agreed. I'm using Pioneer DV-400S too (yesterday I mentioned 300, sorry, my mistake). No problem at all. But, the start-up is quite slow, but not really annoying. It's still one of my proudest DVD players ever. thumbup.gif
