Yes, astro on 32A53 is suprisingly good. Almost makes me feel i'm watching on my SONY 29" CRT with DRC100. And i'm only using a split RF going over a long distance, maybe 20 foot cable or more. I think if i can use S-VIDEO it'll look nicer.

Are you sure about the LG? According to the user manual the LG 298H can upscale via component up to 720P and 1080i.

Anyone manage to test between sony x series with sharp a63?
I went to best denki at klcc the bd that they are playing in sharp area is grainy. I saw the POTC on sony x, it totally blows my mind. You can even see the diff between x and w series. no wonder the price is like, WTF....

Anyways, I just told her I can see the difference - so bought lah!! hahaha

Moral of the story (both ways) - let the 'fussier' (in terms of IQ) partner make the choice! The other person not going to notice the difference

Added on January 21, 2008, 1:55 pmYeah, I think sometimes ppl over emphasize this reflective thingi... pls go and take a look at your CRT. SURE got reflection even if it's the top-of-line/most-expensive-CRT-on-the-market (I mean TV).

So remember, many ppl didn't complain until it comes out in the pros and cons of LCD vs Plasma.

Having said that, yes, there will be times you need to exercise room lighting control. TV placement helps as well.

I have thick curtains in my TV room that I can bring down when necessary, but I usually find no issues, except if I sit on the floor and play PS3 lah!

BTW - this doesn't mean reflection doesn't exist - it does - but what I am saying is that 'most' people shouldn't take this as their primary consideration.

Too bad it's so damn expensive. And to buy 40" is really no point (to me anyways).

Want full HD - better buy 50" or above.

I have seen the Panny plasma and did not like the glare. The Pioneer Kuro was good, but so was the high price!

I have difficulty to find shops that display 42" with Astro. My budget is around RM5k. Hence, I considered only these few:
Sony KLV-40S310A
Toshiba 42A3500
Sharp LC42BX5M
Sharp LC42PX5M
Samsung LA40S81B
LG 42LC7R

Any owners of these sets, can you feedback on PQ of Astro and DVD?

Also, does anyone know how much is the Sharp LC42A53?

yesterday reading feb issue, one of the top US AV mag, pitting a 768p Kuro plasma 50inch against a top range sammy 1080p LCD using LED backlight...
average kuro got 9.5/10 and sammy got 8/10

even though the kuro got only 1366x768p, they say LCD still no fight.. sorry pal, back to the drawing board...
in fact due to the superb picture quality and contrast ratio of the kuro, it has more perceived image details (at 768p) than the 1080p LCD..
only instance where LCD looks more detailed is when sitting nearer than 6ft.. above that sitting distance, the kuro has more PQ and detail.

Oooo...like that arr...still have to wait for cheap HD-DVD player. HD-DVD player for xbox also can, but i think the independent one better....can play karaoke VCD also i think..huhu..

no doubt kuro was awesome, saw it yesterday...but the price
i think all my blood also wont cost that much...

Itu dulu punya model, the current models cannot do that anymore.

Yes, the Samsung one long time ago can, but not anymore. It was the 850 model I believe.

Its not a movie actually, its a bluray promotional cd where it shows scene from movies and everything.
I thought it was like, man, this bluray/tv is no better than normal one.

eeee the cd can play on any tv..... better to test on bd movie
