I am new to this forum and am interested in the discussions going on here. I am also interested in buying a 42" LCD mainly to watch Astro and DVDs. Some models that fit my budget are:

Sony KLV-40S310A
Toshiba 42A3500
Sharp LC42BX5M
Sharp LC42PX5M
Samsung LA40S81B
LG 42LC7R

I have struck out plasma as my downlights will be a glare on the plasma.
Can anyone give any recommendations on what will be the best among those above for Astro and usual DVDs?

I have seen the Panny plasma and did not like the glare. The Pioneer Kuro was good, but so was the high price!

I have difficulty to find shops that display 42" with Astro. My budget is around RM5k. Hence, I considered only these few:
Sony KLV-40S310A
Toshiba 42A3500
Sharp LC42BX5M
Sharp LC42PX5M
Samsung LA40S81B
LG 42LC7R

Any owners of these sets, can you feedback on PQ of Astro and DVD?

Also, does anyone know how much is the Sharp LC42A53?

I noticed Sharp 42" PX5M or BX5M only has HDMI ports which are 1080i. While the Sony 40" S310 has HDMI 1080p ports.

How important is 1080p HDMI port on a HD-ready TV? Do I lose out many features on 1080i HDMI ports?

Does it mean that with the Sony S310, we can plug in 1080p BluRay, while with the Sharp, we cannot even get the signal thru?

Sharp LC42PX5M - no S-video
Sony KLV40S310 - poor PQ on DVDs

Sigh! Going crazy with this. :( Anyone's opinion will help.

I am considering buying obsolete model Sharp LC42BX5M with S-video. Anyone has this model who can share experience with Astro, DVD, HTPC?
