CNY around the corner oledi...wait for festive discounts, compare prices and then get it....

But if you wanna show off your 42incher during CNY, make sure of the leadtime. Depending on location, sometimes it takes 2 weeks...but for KL I think no probs.

I once wanted to support ori DVD here, after bought the ORI "Seven Years In Tibet" from Speedy....I've never ever wanted to buy a region 3 ORI DVD again, the PQ sucks, the AQ also SUCKS....it even more lousier than ahem copy 5 years back.....and I've paid 39.90 for it!!!!

Also, another one is the EVITA....waste my money nia...they only acceptable one is the Matrix nia.....

Next time, we go Speedy together lor, I can tell you which one can buy, which one cannot buy. I know the Speedy Video supervisor personally, not happy, bring it back and change. Last time, I bought Election dvd, the cover said widescreen but inside full screen so took it back and change. Not all region 3 dvds are not that bad, you can try buying MI3, Tokyo Drift, Spiderman 3, Fantasic Four 2, 300, Ghost Rider, etc from Mediamax, Berjaya HVN, Warner and Movie Magic, the quality is the same as region 1, just that sometimes region 1 might have special packaging for those special edition ones. Otherwise, the price difference is worth getting region 3 to be honest.

Are you sure those RM9.90 ones are acceptable quality?

Last time I tried one from Speedy (RM13.90) the quality was worse than some Pasar Malam cinema copy disc. That was the first and last that I bought any below RM20/- titles from Speedy. Maybe it's just hapened that one or two titles were like that.

Didn't buy those, so dunno...sweat.gif Haven't watch RE yet, but i've tested it and it's D5 disc with 2mbit rate video...like pasar malam disc.

Now i'm looking for War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise version)...Play Asia also around RM43...Maybe i should buy from them??

Hi friends,
I am new to this forum and am interested in the discussions going on here. I am also interested in buying a 42" LCD mainly to watch Astro and DVDs. Some models that fit my budget are:

Sony KLV-40S310A
Toshiba 42A3500
Sharp LC42BX5M
Sharp LC42PX5M
Samsung LA40S81B
LG 42LC7R

I have struck out plasma as my downlights will be a glare on the plasma.
Can anyone give any recommendations on what will be the best among those above for Astro and usual DVDs?

Really appreciate anyones advice. Thanks a million!

I saw a 32A53 on astro, and damn it's nice, at least it;s better than toshiba and other brands. I don;t get to see the 42" model, but I asked the salesman and he says the quality should be about the same, although I kinda doubt it a little bit. My opinion - go audition the tv and see which one you like.

Hi, plasma have reflective displays, but manufacturers have cut down on the glare oledi.
Best if you go to those mega stores and check them out yourself before you judge plasmas to be glary.
Panasonic and Pioneer plasma are good examples of plasmas with anti glare coating or filters.

If you are into Astro and DVDs...get plasmas...

LCD are also good, but if you happen to have kids at home, hehe.. the first thing you should teach them is not use a pen/color pencil/crayon on the screen, that will ruin your set.
Children got alot of imagination...hehe...

You should ask her to chip in more money for the pioneer...since it cost almost twice of the panny smile.gif
