I've got my LG 42LC2R delivered yesterday at the cost of RM6k..
Dead pixel and light leakage free but with minor uneven backlight (only obvious when no signal). patiently set my HTPC output to 1360x 768, then plug in DVI to HDMI cable to the TV and reboot...  vola....perfect 1:1 pixel mapping at HDMI port!!!!!! damn chun, with the tears of joy and the feeling is like first time making love....kakakaka...

very satisfied with this purchase and it's really value for money. Tv reception seems to be good. need time to calibrate and will do a short review if i'm free....too busy with the TV.

Simple as to get rid of the worry about QC. Im sure if u have bought things or heard / read stories of the product from the 'certain places' u will understand. I personally experience it b4 and it gives a hell of a nightmare.

Well the LCD unit is assemble in M'sia and imported to UK and some other countries, as told by the promoter. I do not want to take d risk, so might as well settle with a sony 40" or a Aquos 42".

finally, got myself a Sony 76H on last Friday from ESH (SS2) at RM399 (what a steal!!).

watched "Apple Seed" with it at 1080i and was really really impressed. so did "Heroes" series and LOTR II. 
with the upscaling, the colour becomes richer and the details are sharpen.
gorgeous!

in term of playability, so far it has managed to play whatever i threw at it, be it ori, ahem or even those china tvb series, including discs that have previously skipped/unable to play on Cap Ayam dvdp.

i also quite impressed with the noise reduction features (which i think has been taken off in the 78H model), because it does improve the PQ of those low resolution softwares (like those 15 episodes-in-one-disc tvb series  )

the menu was a little confuse at first, but after a few try, it became quite easy.

the remote control, nothing much to shout about, although i quite like the feature that it can be set to control my Samsung R8. but it does get a little too sensitive at times.

and yes, as some of our forumers have mentioned, the loading time is a bit long, so does the opening/closing of disc tray. 

overall, i'm satisfied with this machine. 4/5 stars! 

Is this really true? My Philips 5986 has that logo with the "3" at the back of it. Unfortunately, I do not have any other region coded discs other than "3" to test it with. My 2 older Sony's also have the "3".

Just bought Toshiba 37A3500E for price of RM3700. Include 1 + 1year warranty and S-Video cable. Is this a good offer?

Some of the ahem D9s titles sold here are actually D5 titles recorded on a dual layered disc, I've bought a few and I even compared the bitrates for both, D9 and D5, they were identical but when I bought the original dvd instead, the bitrates were a lot higher. Nowadays, they deceive people by passing D5 rubbish on a D9 disc. Well, when you're free, you can do this experiment, you'll realise that you have been cheated into thinking that the D9 disc you have is supposedly to be of better quality. Nowadays, I also seldom buy those ahem ones unless I can't find that particular titles on an original dvd. RM39.90 to RM59.90 is fine with me if it's a good movie and I'm also hoping that blu-ray and hd-dvd titles will drop below RM80 one day to make them more affordable.

I had the urge to buy a new LCD TV, especially with the fantastic PQ. But after getting more and more information, my urge has died down cos I realised that no matter how good the PQ, it is only achieved with the latest gadgets. You need a BlueRay player playing BlueRay disc or a DVD player with HDMI to enjoy the PQ. But my TV is used daily for Astro and when I saw the PQ of Astro on these LCD TVs, I am disappointed. It's Astro fault with its analog signal, not the TV. In fact I am now more appreciative of my Sony DRC TV which although old tech, produces magnificent Astro PQ even after 6 years of use.

While you have some good points - it's not like people are going to put 2 TVs in their living room right?

or keep a cheapo TV around just to watch ASTRO. 

BTW - even 'normal' CRT TVs have difference in PQ - so that kind of puts cheap China brand out unless you're not much into PQ lah.

Anyways, for those with LCDs and don't want to have perspective messed up - just go for 4:3 mode lah!!!

I get what you mean, RM59.90 still ain't cheap considering the rise in cost of living nowadays. It's hard to convince people to fork out RM59.90 for an original dvd these days unless it's a super duper good movie.
There are ahem D9 dvds that exceed the 5GB barrier but giving you D5 picture quality. Very easy, throw in tons of trailers, rubbish music videos and there you have it, 7GB of space, you might be fooled that it's a D9 movie but the extra space has been filled up with these rubbish materials, the actual movie itself is just a D5 movie which has been compressed. You'll see artifacts on the movie itself. A fine example is the movie 28 Weeks Later. I bought the original copy instead.
Yup, you're right and furthermore, uncensored pulak. Finas has finally tired of censoring movies nowadays. 
That's true and if not, we always go for used blu-ray movies. My friend bought a used copy of Spider-Man 3 blu-ray at RM80, that's even cheaper than the original dvd sold in Malaysia. Value for money in my opinion.
Wah, what did Sony do to you? Don't forget that the PS3 sells cheaper than the XBOX 360 and the blu-ray playback is an additional bonus. If you have played games like Unreal Tournament III and Resistance Fall Of Man on the PS3, the extra space is indeed useful and game developers can use the extra space for some sweet PCM 7.1 sound. If not, a game like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey on the XBOX 360 will span from 3 to 4 dual layered dvds but with blu-ray, one disc is all that you need. The extra space is useful here especially when you're talking about lengthy next gen games like RPGs.

You don't need a full HD panel to enjoy blu-ray movies, a normal widescreen computer monitor with 1:1 pixel mapping is already enough to see the difference at 720p.

Lastly, there's nothing with the design, it looks sexy what. I'm sure Bro rx330 will agree with me. The PS3 looks futuristic, the XBOX 360 is an oddball looking console.

Errr ........ if you didn't know, the PS3 has the most RPG games, not on the XBOX 360, certainly not on the Wii as well. PS2 no need to say, it has the most RPGs but then, it's still a Sony.    So, I don't really see your point of argument here. All consoles offer the same type of gameplay except for Wii, why bash Sony and not Microsoft? The game sucks? I don't think so, try playing Uncharted, Unreal Tournament III, Heavenly Sword, etc ....... it's not that bad actually.
