So...Kf also removed the 15% discount for online booking like enrich....

Better for those with lots of miles....

But not so good for most of us who don't get that many miles....

In the past, if you calculate discounted fares compared to yq you have to pay for redemption, you find it's not worth redeeming for y....I wonder by removing the yq, whether the equation will have changed....

Yes, understand all these.
I just need simple flight to East Malaysia mostly.  smile.gif

For me, the comparison between collecting treatpoints vs. frequent flyer miles is always cashback.

Assuming 2% cashback is the general amount for regular spend, the amount I get back from an economy class Asia Miles redemption is roughly 5-6% (RM66.5k spend on Amex Reserve earns 70k Asia Miles which in turn can earn me a RM4k economy class ticket to the US. If I spend ~RM130k on Amex Reserve earning 135k Asia Miles, I can redeem for a RM15k business class ticket to the US so a 11.5% return.

You'll have to calculate the return on Air Asia to compare.

This is only valid if you can spend enough and want to redeem those types of tickets. If you can't spend enough to earn enough points for a flight redemption, maybe it's better to convert to cash/coupons.

I am not planning to redeem ticket to US, my regular flight is to East Malaysia only.
I just intend to utilise my cc points to redeem something which i need to spend.

depends on route, I have published very basic finding on this.

you can find out the breakdown of surcharge on ITA, then compare to the miles increase and justify whether should you redeem now or later.

your review was looking at j and f class....and i think it is always worth redeeming, assuming you have enough miles....since the j fare is always significantly more than yq....

my point is, for those with not enough miles for j/f redemption, it's still possible for y redemption....but in the past, the difference between the yq charges and actual discounted fare is not that much different....making y redemption "not worth it"....

Quick answer is that the proposition for Y redemption improved, but not greatly. Continue to aim for J or F redemption should be the plan.

to me Y redemption has always provide very low return or value thus safe to say we can ignore it.

compare price difference and miles difference.

in price, J can be few times more expensive

in miles, it is usually less than 100%

Thus I never waste time analyzing Y redemption, I don't mean to sound ignorance but we should look to maximize.

SQ revision of the points chart looks promising..
my planned trip from KUL - SIN - MUC - MXP - SIN - KUL now clocks in at 170k per pax + RM 217 taxes... Previously was about 140+k miles + RM 1800 taxes per person...

At least this is a reasonable offer compared to MH.

*A redemption shows 160,000 on roundtrip, 80k per way... would be interesting to try KUL - SIN - MUC - VIE - TPE - KUL via Singapore Air and Eva Air. Just short of couple K miles to go, will update if anything interesting pops up.

It's not *A RTW. Just normal star alliance round trip redemption. Single way is divide by 2.

VIE - TPE - KUL another segment via EVA Air.

May I know how to key in your planned trip? Do you use multi city option then key in Kul - Sin, then Sin - muc, then muc - vie etc? So this trip is like a big loop? No need for any open jaws? Thanks.

Understand. Thats very good idea. Thanks.
Can use KF miles to book both routes or have to use different FF miles?

Hi Sifus, I have been given a choice of 500K Asia Miles or 25K cash vouchers by a bank as a reward for investment. May I know which is a better choice in terms of dollar value? If I am not wrong, the air miles should give better value dollar wise but I am not a member of AM (yet) and I am wondering if 500K miles can fetch 2 award tickets on Cathay biz classfrom KL - New York? Many thanks

Wow, one hell of a lucky guy!
If you travel a lot then 500k AM is definitely a viable option. Also, 500k AM could easily get you 3 return business class seats KL to New York.

500K Asia Miles can get you 2 First Class tickets to JFK with 60k miles to spare.

Mind sharing what kind of investment and which bank? biggrin.gif
