Thanks guys for your quick response. So it is a no brainer that I should choose the miles then? 2 return 1st class tickets to JFK would costs maybe RM40k? Of course with shopping vouchers it is immediate gratification while the air miles may be more difficult to redeem.

dctravels, I will not reveal the investment but if you have a RM with SC bank you may want to give her a call smile.gif

May I know how to key in your planned trip? Do you use multi city option then key in Kul - Sin, then Sin - muc, then muc - vie etc? So this trip is like a big loop? No need for any open jaws? Thanks.

I search in website by KUL straight to MUC as SQ flies between the two route. On a lucky day, you are able to book the saver ticket (without waitlist). It'll show up as a transit in SIN.

For VIE - TPE - KUL, i get this route via EVA Air website. TPE is a transit point.

QUOTE(HappyGuy @ Mar 23 2017, 02:15 PM)
Understand. Thats very good idea. Thanks.
Can use KF miles to book both routes or have to use different FF miles?
*
As per above, to book the route under one PNR, need to call SQ call center to piece together the itinerary.

Wow, one hell of a lucky guy!
If you travel a lot then 500k AM is definitely a viable option. Also, 500k AM could easily get you 3 return business class seats KL to New York.

QUOTE(dctravels @ Mar 23 2017, 02:56 PM)
500K Asia Miles can get you 2 First Class tickets to JFK with 60k miles to spare.

Mind sharing what kind of investment and which bank?  biggrin.gif
*
Holy SHEETT!!! that's alot of miles. Mind to share what kind of investment instruments and min investment? the 25k is in RM or other currency. OMAAT values AM at USD 0.012 / mile which gives you USD 6000 valuation. For 500k, you can fly 2 return trip to JFK on first class with a balance of 60k leftover to get you from KUL to HKG. biggrin.gif. For me, that's worth more than the RM 25k..

Some people prefer cash over experience... I'm all for the experience

Thanks for the pointer.

CX F KUL-HKG retails for USD17k per person. I just did this route in January. You can have a read on my blog:

USD 6,000 is about the same as the RM25K shopping vouchers they are giving out? I don't quite get this: for the number of miles valued at USD6,000 gets 2x return first class tickets to JFK? Am I missing something here?

6000 usd is based on points to dollar valuation. not flight price. If compare to flight price, it'll be way much higher. Problem with that is hard to compare as it's something that not normally spent on. For example, a pair of return F ticket from KUL to JFK comes up to about RM 205k... but i wouldn't say i've saved RM 205k as it's not something i'd have purchased normally.

lol.. is that price even real... 100k for a first class ticket??? CX gone off the rails..

It depends solely on what you're looking for. 25k cash voucher wouldn't even get you 2 J ticket to US... while the miles would several times over...

Thanks for your valuable insights, most appreciated. The choice is clear.
While 1st class would be heck of an experience, I personally think it is abit of an overkill..probably just go for 3 biz seats instead for the family smile.gif

Are Asia Miles easy to redeem? Or is it a pain like KF?

do you consider hours on the phone a pain?

no pain no gain, if you want to maximize your miles.

What if it is just simple return tickets? Is AM straight forward like Enrich? Sorry I just signed up to AM and have no idea what it entails. Looking at their website gives me goosebumps. Did you look at them charts? Do they expect us ordinary folks to decipher all those info? rclxub.gif

direct redemption via website is alright. quite straightforward. it's only when u need to redeem OW that need to call the center.

Do you mind elaborating under what circumstances do you require OW involvement? It seems like most of the airlines with AM is also part of OW? How does it work? Sorry for the noob question, I have been loyal to Enrich for years but not anymore!

Asia Miles is under Cathay Pacific

Cathay pacific is under OW alliance

There are 3 airlines alliance, One world, Star and Skyteam.

RTW allow you access to any airlines under the alliance.

Enrich has redemption for OW RTW too but miles required are higher than Asia Miles.

Sorry catch no ball. It says here on the AM website I can redeem for many other airlines apart from CX? eg Qatar, BA, MH. All for the same amount of points for the same route. so under which circumstances do I need to call in? Multiple connections with different carriers within the OW alliance? Thanks for your clarifications

AM website IIRC is able to redeem CX, QR and BA flight. Not sure about MH. Flights that you can redeem via website is the easiest to do. just click, pay and issue. However, you cannot mix CX and QR or BA on a standard award redemption. From my experience, flights on carrier other than CX always shows up as not available or waitlist.

You only need to call the center if you're doing exotic routing or involve a mix of one world carrier. Same if you're redeeming a mix of flight class on a single PNR booking (single ticket booking).

OK it is much clearer now. If you can indulge me further - how is it that I cannot redeem an award seat on AM from KL-JFK but only able to do HKG-JFK? Does this mean that I need to redeem the KL-HK route separately? It will probablt cost alot more miles?

hmm. i think that's because you used the flight finder link in Asia miles.

try this
https://www.asiamiles.com/amwdsibered/jsp/r...uzeeFHOOg%3D%3D

Search came up 145k miles + HKD 4731 tax for dates in Nov. By the way, CX availablility sucks over the weekend. Usually award flights only available in middle of the week

Got it! Thanks a bunch rclxms.gif
To go for European destinations from KL, is it advisable to use CX? It appears that the amount of AM to book Qatar is no different? Transiting in HK does seem like a detour

ideally transit in Doha would be great for European destination. But you need to factor in the surcharges to fly on Qatar as i believe it's quite hefty compared to CX.
