Can anyone recommend a good and reliable bus operator? I would like to go back pj or Sunway area by midnight bus.

Hi guys,

Wanna ask a bit about the tax rates in SG. I'm in the midst of a work transfer to SG and just received my work permit so now is just determining when to move over.

From what I can gather from the IRAS site, individuals are qualified for resident rates if they've been staying/working in SG for 183 days in a calendar year.

1. Would this mean that I qualify for resident rates if I move to SG before 1 July (counting 1/7 - 31/12 is exactly 183 days)

2. I would be required to travel between Kl-SG for the first 2 months for work, would it be considered as a 'work day' in SG too? Since technically my hiring status is now under the SG branch.

Link to the page I've been refering to: https://www.iras.gov.sg/IRASHome/Individual...-Non-Residents/

PS: Nice to meet all of you! Summary of myself, working in the Advertising industry and got a work transfer to move to the SG branch smile.gif

If you work less than 183 days in 2016 you will only be taxed in the next cycle. I started working since Sept 2014 till now haven't pay a cent yet. Waiting for IRAS red bomb for 2015. Haven't see the fighter jet coming yet.

Doesn't really matter when you move over. If you move over before (around) 1st July then you'll definitely be levied at tax resident rates.

If you move over after (around) 1st July, there are two possibilities:
1. IRAS taxes you this year as a non tax resident (15% flat rate). But the following year, once you hit 183 days, you can ask IRAS to re-assess you as a tax resident and they will credit back the overpaid amount to offset your future taxes.
2. IRAS doesn't even do a tax assessment for this year's tax. It does it the following year at once for you as a tax resident.

Not that tax resident is not physical resident. As long as you are employed & paid by the company in SG, business trips to the KL office still count as tax residency days ... I think, not too sure. morgana_jara

Welcome to SG, if you're interested in Q&A, info sharing, occasional BBQ's, etc then send a PM to our Big 2 daikors Lester1987 and MacKiddo to be added to the "LYN Malaysians working in SG" whatsapp group.

V17 Thread

CPF and Income Tax

- If you work 183 days or more in a calendar year you are a tax resident and pay the same progressive tax rates as locals.
- If you work less than 183 days you are not a tax resident and pay flat 15% tax or progressive tax rates as locals (whichever is higher). However the following year if your employment spills over into exceeding 183 days you can request IRAS to re-assess you as a tax resident and refund you the difference in tax paid.
- Visit IRAS website for more information on taxes.
- CPF (equivalent of our EPF) is only mandatory for PR's and SC's (Singapore Citizens) at 16% Employee, 20% Employer, capped at first $5k per month.
- Some companies will encash the employer portion for foreigners.
- Visit CPF Website for more information on CPF.

*
There's a mistake in the CPF part... the contribution is 20% from employee and 16% from employer...

Hi guys,

Anyone of you bought medi shield frm any provider ?

Reason i am asking coz the plan i purchased frm avixx, recently up to renewal date, the latest premium increased so much , bloody hell

I asked the agent, reason he give tat government recently roll out the "medishield life" plan, hence all providers will upgrade their plans accordingly to provide better coverage. Not oni avixx, but all providers also increased their premium @@

Is it true ? Anyone that your medishield premium increased ? I thought the "medishield life" is free as government advertisement, but now they telling me otherwise.....

Yes, it is true... all the basic medishield plan will be upgraded to medishield life which comes with higher premium...

Both NTUC Income and Prudential will increase their premium in coming year as they promise no increase in the first year launch of medishield life...

yes this is true.. I think last time medishield also not free.. is charged from your cpf.. now this medishield life also charged from your cpf.. which the premium increase by quite a bit...
so the cash premium you are paying should be the same.. except if you jump age band..

Yes last time the fund will be reflected on the same day. Recently due to certain reasons, the fund will only be transferred to your accs in Msia the next working day. See below FYI -

Important alert: There have been a number of recent phone scams targeting residents in Singapore to make overseas fund transfers. If you are transferring funds because of a call you have received, we suggest that you check the reasons and beneficiaries before doing so. Please do not transfer funds if you suspect you are a victim of a scam. Funds will be transferred to your beneficiary the next working day.

1. Things are getting tougher recently.
2. Most people tend to jump ship in Apr/May(when bonus pay out), so a lot of opening has just filled up
3. At this time companies may prefer to wait fresh grads from SG unis to come out at Jun/Jul, esp executive positions in MnC.

Just my two cents. unsure.gif

are you non pr/singaporean? if yes then the increase in premium due to medishield life will reflect in the amount you have to pay with cash..
if you are pr/singaporean.. then its the change in age band.. you reach an age where the premium increase.. common for health plan..
