Why should age even matter? I thought what matters most is your experience, career satisfaction/ expectation, etc.
*
Age matters in some industry, some bank for example HSBC, they annually review staff based on age, seniority, certification, and performance. Some employer like my current company (UK based) also favors to elder one every time they are looking for senior position to fill up.

Lol? I'm on the same boat but the other way round. I'm from pmt and feel like going back to technical. Got a good degree in chemical and don't feel like wasting it. OnG not doing well, and lack of projects. My skills is not as transferable like a Chem or process engineer. And I am easily replaceable, merely a focal point coordinator that every fresh grad can do. I believe u feel the same too. Our career path moves to a PM, and most PM works like dog but rewarding. When recession, hard to find a specific job out there. Change industry also difficult compared to a generalist chem/proc eng.

Just a matter of time you will forget how to use your simulation software etc lol

I think is how u view and enjoy it
*
Yes you point out my concern.. my position can actually be replace by any fresh grad. And i dont find any specialty in my current job position.

Shake hand bro...

the company i work for, the pay is not much, but the benefits for my situation is good
1. the avg increment is 50-150 per year for staff.i work well (200-300) around now. so my increment is considered high (maybe for diploma level)
2. my degree studies are payed fully by my company (30k)
3. study and exam leave
4. r&d company, alot of high tech stuff i could toy around with. kinda cool
5. 8 hours working per day and that's it, i get home on time. ( i think this is not common thing in private companies, and i don't know why)

all in all, i really like working here. My concerns as of now is
1. the pay kinda sucks so i've been told
2. i have reached a point where I feel that I don't grow much, compared to when I first joined the company
