Foreign funds net selling hits RM388m as ringgit weaken

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s FBM KLCI closed down nearly 18 points on Tuesday, in line with the Asean markets, while the ringgit continued to weaken against the US dollar as investor sentiment was battered by China’s devaluation of the yuan.

At 5pm, the KLCI was down 17.66 points or 1.07% to 1,636.71 which was the lowest since March 2013. Turnover was 1.98 billion shares valued at RM2.02bil. Losers beat gainers 529 to 290 while 346 counters were unchanged.

hmm.gif what do you think now....about when the maths is correct then is it obvious that IRR can be used as a meaningful representation even if the investment is less than 1 year?

hmm.gif actually still rclxub.gif
first I am clear that on this "If the maths is correct, it cannot be 'more accurate'. Or less accurate".

then I got this..." we are projecting or extrapolating the ROI% to its annualised IRR rate, and how many times we are extrapolating it depends on how closed is the investment time to 1-year. The shorter is the invested time, the more times we are extrapolating it.

So, if you truly understand how the maths works, and the whole process of converting the ROI% to IRR, then it is up to you whether you want to do it or not. Then the answer is obvious whether it is still "a meaningful representation even if the investment is less than 1 year".

hmm.gif eventhough I am still rclxub.gif ...but will Let the above thoughts sink in first, before giving up! blush.gif ...until I can get a definite "YES" or "NO" answer to "is IRR a meaningful representation even if the investment is less than 1 year?" blink.gif sad.gif

I think a simple example should be better.

First month u profit of 10 buns
Second month u profit 5 buns
Third month u profit 20 buns.

Extrapolating. U predict future profit of buns until 1 year. Up to you whether you want to believe that extrapolation, or not. It's still math.

.... PS: Malaysia funds going down the drain. lol... good test of not letting emotion to cut my losses prematurely. @@

Dow falls triple digits on surprise yuan devaluation; Google jumps

U.S. stocks closed lower by about 1 percent on Tuesday after an unexpected move overnight by the People's Bank of China to depreciate the yuan by nearly 2 percent. ( Tweet This )

"The major concern is, the prospect of a China hard landing is more ominous as far as its impact on global growth," said Eric Wiegand, senior portfolio manager at U.S. Bank's Private Client Reserve.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed about 210 points lower, wiping out most of Monday's gains. The index's 50-day moving average fell below its 200-day moving average, a bearish condition many analysts term a " death cross .

I recalled earlier of the year or perhaps qtr4 of 2014, our KLCI PER hit 17.XX to almost 18.00 which is unprecedented. Our average 5 year PER is around 15.00.

Again, this is what regression to the mean means. What goes up will eventually regress to the mean and what went down will regress towards the mean. Sometimes, it may not be immediate and there is a lag time because KLCI operates in a semi-efficient market environment.

KLCI has made me to sit up and take notice of her again... if it continue to slide below the average PER, I will slowly nibble on KGF.
