When Charlie Munger or Warren Buffett were asked how they think the market will perform for the next 6 months or 1 year, their answer was..."the market will fluctuate".

My 2 cents view. In theory, if the market goes down continuously for the next 10 years, nobody will invest in the stock market. Who would want to invest in a SURE LOSE game? Conversely, if the market goes up continuously for the next 10 years without a break, everyone will be lining up at the bank, Ah Long, chettiar for personal loans to invest in the stock market because it is a SURE WIN game.

Therefore we are experiencing a "normal" market now because it is fluctuating.
*
hmm.gif YEs it is "normal" to fluctuates, but just how long will this down curve of this "Normal" market be before it start to rise as in the "normal' market that are 85% "played" by retail investors? rclxub.gif

"It's a stampede. And the problem of the market is that all the players move in the same direction, and are too emotional."

seems like the risk factor if way to high to dump money now
the thing is it's too uncertain in the next 2 years to even predict how the market would react

unless u have spare cash which you confident you would not need to touch for the next 5 years ....by all means go ahead

but if you still commitments lying around wishing to make some money it would be best not to ...

hmm.gif well, I think the above applies to ALL times...not just now

1 of the 3 Misconceptions Of FSM Recommended Unit Trusts List is .
RECOMMENDED unit trusts = BEST RETURNS

yes,.....if YOU cannot take the heat...stay away from the kitchen.

Any investment carries with it an element of risks. Therefore, prior to making any investment, prospective investors should consider the following risk factors:

Market Risk

Any purchase of securities will involve an element of risks. As unit trust funds principally invest in listed stocks, it may be prone to losses as a result of global, regional or national economic conditions, governmental policies or political developments. Market uncertainties and fluctuations in the market caused by these uncertainties will affect the net asset value (NAV) of unit trusts which may fall or rise, thus causing the income generated by the fund to fluctuate from funds with higher risk, higher returns to funds with lower risk, lower returns.

and many more risk factors....

I think a simple example should be better.

First month u profit of 10 buns
Second month u profit 5 buns
Third month u profit 20 buns.

Extrapolating. U predict future profit of buns until 1 year. Up to you whether you want to believe that extrapolation, or not. It's still math.

rclxms.gif Buns are definitely much easier to "digest" biggrin.gif

Portfolio IRR at ALL-TIME HIGH...7.02% shocking.gif

hmm.gif to some newbies or anti UTs people...this sifu IRR rate is a very depressing news....
newbies may be expecting more and anti UTs maybe saying not worth it.......for an almost Risk Free rate of 3.5-4% FD, self contribution into EPF abt 5.6% (Epf for long terms like Uts)

I guess newbies have to be eventually be brought down from the sky high....

2008 when I first started, dunno shit about portfolio construction

2010-2011 market crash, panic and cashed out

So, my IRR suffers the effects of the above...

How diversified is your entire net asset? When in retirement, it is recommended that you have a 3-tiered portfolio strategy, short term target distribution such as FD, cash, money market etc. that can last for 2 years of expense, a mid-term balanced of stock and bond for 2-10 years need and lastly long term growth portfolio mainly in global equity. On top of that you need to have insurance in the form of gold. It is also good to have passive income from rental return if you like property.
*
hmm.gif doh.gif so with that, I think many people cannot have retirement....
hmm.gif can it be YKLooi just wanted to maximise the returns of his investment....?
I think, he is hinting that, in the next 2 yrs,...his portfolio IRR would not be above IRR 6%
cos,....I think he know that in the next 2 yrs, (as pointed by T231H)...his UT investment ROI cannot get 10%pa

For the first time since I started investing in FSM, my portfolio is showing negative return this week. It is now hovering around  -1.03%.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. This Vanguard wannabe fund manager should really be sacked. No bonus and year end increment for you this year.

Anyway I just topped up my non China linked funds today and added a few new funds to my portfolio. If my returns by December 2015 is less than FD rate, then time to close shop?  tongue.gif

hmm.gif
now is -1.03%
FD rate is 3.5%
now till DEC is 3 months
to have 4.5% portfolio ROI in 3 months
(40% of your portfolio must have 10% Nav increase or 80% of your portfolio must have 5% NAV increases.......with the FED rate hike SOON)

Will Gold Really Hedge a Falling Stock Market?
A common perception about gold is that it can act as a safe haven in the event of a severe stock market downturn.

if you own a house, just request the loan statement from your bank and they will send you a copy of it. BR charges you but my ocbc was FOC.

bring document to EPF and calculate how much your account 2 and divide by your monthly loan.

my epf 2 had 30k. divide by 2100=1.6 years.

they will credit to your bank account of your choice on a monthly basis.

some say im stupid for taking out my fund but with the current situation where the government is bleeding money, i do not trust epf.

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Sep 3 2015, 02:38 PM)
Yeap. I took out and immediately put it into another bank account.
*
hmm.gif after you had taken out the monies that had just banked into your OCBC bank, you will withdraw and use it to do a "8~10% return" investment....
then do you still need to use your own money of 2100 per month to pay the h/l?
isn't it the same as
let the EPF money auto pay the h/l thru OCBC then use your own money 2100 to invest in a 8~10% return investment?
(save the hazzle of having to got to the bank to withdraw and goto the bank to pay h/l again with own money)

pls correct if my vision is wrong here...
