Point 5) From the above examples, so how is that the IRR is "less accurate" when the time take by an investment is less than 1 year? As mentioned; when the maths is correct, it cannot be less accurate or more accurate

understanding the metrics used to measure compounding returns – CAGR, IRR and XIRR.
In this post, the similarity and difference between the CAGR (compounded annualized growth rate) and the IRR (internal rate of return) is examined with the help of an illustration.

Hi , just want to ask, is it monthly deduction/auto debit is a good strategy for investing in equity fund? e.g PONZi 2.0 ?  Or only buy when the price is drop ? I know that this strategy is work with some low risk mutual fund, not sure is it correct way to do this in high risk equity fund?
*
monthly auto deduction will eliminate the guesswork and emotional factors of investing....
(guess work as in timing the mkts, emotional as in fear when the mkts corrects)

do monthly investment if you just starting out....buy in more when the markets corrects at the same time if you see that the regions will have more upside after the corrections....

hmm.gif You said this..."I know that this strategy is work with some low risk mutual fund, not sure is it correct way to do this in high risk equity fund?"
isn't it low risk mutual funds will usually fluctuates less...thus...anytime is also a good time to invest....lump sum or monthly deduction.....?

Who's to blame for China's stock-market plunge?
The Shanghai Composite has fallen 29 per cent since June 12. However, short positions made up less than 0.03 per cent of China's market capitalisation, while foreigners own less than 3 per cent of Chinese shares, making it unlikely that they could take down the whole market.
So who is to be blamed?

Thanks for the responding, ermm so meaning that most properly the technique use will be monthly deduction (so called ringgit cross average)    even is for the high risk market which 100% on equity fund(provided you pick the correct fund with overall uptrend right?). Did you use any profile balancing?
Monthly deduction is because the paycheck comes monthly...
RSP is "GOOD" when on the Downtrend...buy more units with the same amount of monies...
what is profile balancing?

for low risk mutual fund yeah you are quite right, but if lump sum also need to see the market timing right?
actually cannot time the market.....best is buy when the valuation of the region/country is low....then wait...

Last, do you have any book recommend to understand more on investing in unit trust?  Thanks. biggrin.gif
better do as post #125....learn more and faster.... tongue.gif

some noises in figures?
RETAIL INVESTORS

Unlike other major stock markets, which are dominated by professional money managers, retail investors account for around 85 percent of China trade, which exacerbates volatility.

"It's uncommon to see so many shares posting consecutive daily limit falls, and the index futures swinging so wildly," said Wang Feng, CEO and founder of hedge fund firm Alpha Squared Capital Co and a former Wall Street trader.

"It's a stampede. And the problem of the market is that all the players move in the same direction, and are too emotional."
http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/07/08/...N0PI04Q20150708

While Chinese investors are “relatively optimistic” about the future, they still want to reduce stakes, according to a poll by the Survey and Research Center for China Household Finance at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. Only 40.5 percent of households still had gains in their stock accounts in the week starting June 27, down from 73.8 percent in the period June 15 to June 18.

hmm.gif
retail investors account for around 85 percent of China trade
Only 40.5 percent of households still had gains in their stock accounts in the week starting June 27
Bigger sell off in July 6~8....that means this 40.5% will be reduced again.....
Thus many many had their fingers burnt......the rebound may not be so soon? doh.gif

hmm.gif YES,.....if you just buy without referring what you needed in your portfolio and buy not according to your risk appetite...that is to me dumping monies

QUOTE(MR_alien @ Jul 11 2015, 08:10 AM)
whole portfolio is red except GTF
ponzi 2.0 and Greater china got hit the biggest....total portfolio is -3.25
gonna topup greater china...maybe
*
hmm.gif just becareful of over % of allocation in the portfolio...after topup maybe will be more than the limits of risk appetite.

I think it is a good time to top up...just that the index will not be reaching the previous high for some times....
China market are played by 85% retail investors, whom got burnt just recently.....it will take some times for them to get back in, in a fury manners
fundamentally China is still FSM's 5 star ratings...long term is good
and Algozen's ball just said reversion of mean is at good probability too.
