Err...

Can a U Mobile number be ported? I always liked 018 prefix, but I don't want U mobile rate. I want it to be Hotlink. Can or not?

Yup i dont see why not.
Maybe next time we can even choose whether we want to start our number with 018, 019 with a maxis provider.

I just go to the telco I want to switch, and said I want to port in to the Telco, they ask me to fill us form registration form, and tell me the process is going to take 5 working days, meantime the existing provider will still works. They gave me Sim card too, late night, Digi send me SMS, tell me under process

then the number stil 016-xxxxxxx , but the line is using hotlink line/frequency? how about the coverage? is it using digi's one or new hotlink's one?

1) do you need to pay some deposit to your new telco? if yes, how much cost you?

2) how long does it take to refund the deposit from your existing telco?

there is a RM 25 charge when you port.
I think telco will start tying user under contract preventing them from porting so easily.

They have to really get some attractive plans first if they want to make its users to sign contracts. Who is so stupid to put himself under contract when the pricing is the same.
