hmm hotel not near bts.... is it special rate hotel or something? i think one near a bts will be much better. bkk is pretty safe, i been there so many times walk around at night with no problems. as long as you dont go to those sleazy areas you will be safe. but yeah lah. every city is the same. hehe. KL also not safe leh.
*
I don't think it is special rate. The reason why i choose that place is because it's near to khaosan road. I heard lots of backpackers will be there and maybe can meet new friends and travel together. Another location i've not decided but it seems that there is a night market in chatuchak during weekends. So, i suppose i'll stay nearby the area where i can visit the night market. I think that would be my first destination for accomodations. mayb after 2 nights, shift to khaosan road where i can visit the other part of bangkok(khaosan road area for the grandpalace, n some temples). And then visit Ayuthaya.

Any suggestions where to stay so that i can visit those chatuchak market and the surrounding area?

Yeah Xmas eve is generally a lot more happening then in KL, its a bit like SG's Orchard Rd.

And like Panda said, crime is normal everywhere, just becareful where you go to and how you keep your stuff.  But crime rates are a lot lower when compared to KL's.  Lets just say.. I feel easier walking about in BKK then in KL really =\

Erm.. Do you know where is the hotspots for this celebrations?

For the safety, i guess i jsut need to be careful not to offend the ppl over there.

For language, any advice on that? ie what is the usual words tha ti need to learn up etc etc.
For money, any advice on that?ie prepare small denominations of money etc etc.

Hmm lotsa places really, virtually all the malls will. I'd suggest central world, since they got a beer garden, a huge tree and other nearby malls to add to it(will make it look like SG's Orchard rd). Not sure where all the hotspots are though, but if you just walk around the major malls and some tourist areas, you'll pretty much get it tongue.gif

Just the usual words when you go traveling.. "toilet, how much?, cheaper, left, right, straight"

Yeah you'll want to bring small notes, small stalls don't exactly take credit cards you know tongue.gif Not really sure how else to advice on money, just the usual, bring enough money out, a lil extra incase you need to pay for somehting like cab fees etc, or food.

anyone try Citin Pratunam Hotel & Bangkok City Inn before?
*
Citin Pratunam is very near to Baiyoke Sky..walk out you get streets of food stall and night market at night.
approx 10mins to the BTS station. But have free tut tut shuttler every 30mins. Free internet connection and having PC at the lobby provided access to those that does not have laptop.

Breakfast is ok. But no meat...It's a vegetarian concept restaurant.
Bed is bit too hard for my liking. But room are clean.

Yes, if you go to get a cab yourself and not from the counter and go by meter. And no traffic jam. Keep in mind if you wanna take the highway (toll fees) or not. Toll should come to about 80 baht max.

Don't remember if theres a double charge after midnight, but I think the initial fee goes up to 50 baht from 35.

And agents always charge more for anything. And in which case you might as well take the bus which is a fixed 150 baht per person.

If you are coming in late at night, taking the toll way is not worth it. Theres no jam.

What?

Don't go from an agent, rm30 per person is ridiculous.

once my bro and i were super late for airport check-in ( we were in Bangkok for work )
Our flight to HK was like in 2 1/2 hours ....

And we were still in the hotel , unpacked luggage...
Luckily i manage to wake up.. and scream at my brother ....
he just start throwing everyting into the luggage.. and i shower and went down to check out...

Get into the cab..Ask the cab to drive fast ...
He said it's the limit he could drive.. which was 120kmph...
My bro paid him extra 500 baht.. if he could get us to the airport in 10 mins... LoL...
We manage to reach the airport on time..
