Hiii all....i am going to have a 4days3nite trip to Bangkok with my friends, total in 5.Just wana check how much the estimated fare  for a  taxi cab ride from airport to Samran Place hotel,Ratchathewi Bangkok?up to 5ppl per cab is acceptable?  :blush:Thanks
*
well from my experience the taxi ride ranges from 250 - 350 baht. i stayed near NANA station. but generally it is in this range. (correct me if i'm wrong other forumers) depending on traffic and also on whether you take the toll way (highway) or not. there are two tolls one is 20 baht and one is 40 baht i think. make sure you have change. cause usually they ask money from you on the spot, instead of topping up later at the end of your ride.

i dunno about 5 ppl per cab. some cabs are pretty run down. but thailand traffic officials pretty strict. dunno if they will let it slide. plus its a long way to be squeezed anyways. heheh.

also just a funny trivial note. thai traffic police will sometimes have a pink hello kitty strap on their arm...(well they used to) this means that they were late for work.

yeah there are a lot of nice places. theres also this place called cabbages and condoms. which is an experience. but the food there sucks.

theres this nice place outside of the city a bit. where theres this nice restaurant sitting on the water. get nice view and breeze and quite cheap. im not sure of the name. maybe another forumer knows the place. its quite touristy.

yeah massages are nice. i never done the full body massage. cause they kinda crack you left and right. so im quite paranoid of people messing with my bones. hahahaha. i just do the foot massage. which generally ranges from 150-300 baht per hour.

dont forget to tip. in thailand you have to tip for eveeryryyyyyyy thing. except buying stuff like clothes in shops. but like food and massage. is a must. some of those stalls that sell the fried cricket. they ask you to tip before you take a picture hahahahah.

any place for shopping? or wholesales?
*
most of the markets can give you wholesale. the weekend market (jatujak weekend market) is supposed to be the cheapest. but the best way to get the best deal is if you have a thai friend or something that can bargain.

mbk is good for shopping mall type shoppin if you want t-shirts and stuff. but for crafts and paintings and what not jatujak is the best. but its hot so go as early as possible. i think the bts goes there not sure. some train goes there. heheh.

lumpini is also big market. but its more expensive. but that is every night. got a live show every night too with bands. also fancy restaurants. also got the muay thai. there. the underground train thing goes here. i think

QUOTE(panasonic88 @ Oct 31 2008, 12:12 PM)
wahhh tip before taking a picture. so how much do you normally give?
*
for taking the pic of the cricket i dunno. but most people give like 10 baht for something like that.
for massages. depending on the place. if its fancy its more lah. this ranges from like 40 baht - 100 baht. usually i give around 50 baht. cause i never go to the nice nice places. too expensive. and i also only do foot massage. maybe body massage you tip more. what about the other forumers? what do you all normally give?

I think they will not let you through. Just go and renew it. It now takes 2 hours for your new passport, do it through the machine, no queue.
*
yeah you need at least 6 months for most places.
it takes 5 minutes to make a new passport with the machine.

bring photo. passport and photocopy of your IC. and i think 300 ringgit.

it takes 2 hours before you can collect. but sometimes takes longer. last time i went to pick it up had to wait 1 hour just to pick it up and sign a piece of paper. vmad.gif

but if you are lazy to look around. you could always just call and book i guess. instead of lugging your stuff around place by place.

yeah bangkok and their gem trade is quite high. but yeah. i think a tuk tuk driver talking to you would be a bit strange. never happened to me before. the only time they talk is to ask for money. so be careful if he's all friendly. ... but i guess thats also a bit of a generalisation. im sure not every tuk tuk driver that talks to you is gonna scam you. hahahah. the thai people i met are really nice so yeah. i dunno. just dont buy gems? or bring a thai friend if you got one.

If i recall correclty, you should not take tuk tuk liau... as Cab aka taxi is everwhere (they are altis), some more woth Meter..know like KL....

For the scamp....thing. just take this quote i learn from this forum, "DO NOT BUY THING YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR !!" Got it

yea, i would like to recommend thai seafood, Somboon, Check it out thumbup.gif
*
heheh. yeah lah. but you know if you are a tourist you must take tuk tuk at least once right? hahahah. my friend wanted to take one so bad that we ended up in a traffic jam for 45 mins on a tuk tuk. doh.gif never again will i give in to such selfish demands of friends HHAHAHAHA

if you are alone the motorbike taxis are damn efficient. but also you need to know the price. otherwise they con you. usually its like 10 baht per 1-2 km. or something like that.

yeah before you go make sure you research the price of the item in kl first. people really like to make money off tourists .

example....im in beijing now. the person wanted to sell me fake shoes for rm 500. hahahahah. i was laughing so hard. they didnt believe me that i could buy 2 pairs of the original shoes for that price. so sneaky man. in the end i bought them for rm 50.

thailand is the same but maybe not to that extent. heh. crazy. luckily the sales girl was damn cute. lets me cuci mata while bargaining.

i havent followed up on this siege thing the thai's are doing but. does any one know the reason they are attacking the airport? i mean. yeah. the article you posted showed like them being helpful to the tourists the part about the taxi ride through the protesters. so is there some significance of the airport?

usually they request a 48-72 hour warning before you cancel. plus depending on the quality of the hotel they might not give you a good refund. like a cheapo hotel might give you 50-70% refund only. or they might charge you one night stay. then the rest is cancelled.

goodluck. but in cases such as airport shutting down. im sure if you are willing to argue you could get a better refund. do you have any travel insurance? sometimes they cover issues like this.

check out their insurance clauses on their website. there should be some clause like force majeure or flight disruption or something like that. shouldnt be that much to read. look at the text. i dont think you should rely on the air asia people. they arent insurance salesman so they dont know the exact details. well i think anyways. hahahah.

but what about the trip cancellation clause that is listed in their air asia goinsure thing? it says there its covered? so what does 'trip cancellation mean?" if someone shoots down the plane? doh.gif

man air asia really $ucks a$$ if they arent gonna give you money back for this.

anyone read the article about the sailors in BKK. some foreign sailors needed to fly to malaysia to join the race here but were stuck at the airport. so they took the bus i think. 14hours. arrived at second leg of the race at 330pm something. started the race at 4pm. haiyo. i really respect them man.

for those who are expecting the occupation of the airport to end soon well good luck. for those of you who have flights in the next week or so i think you should just approach air asia and get a refund or change flight or whatever. apparently even if people leave the airports the airport will not be able to open due to important security and IT checks.

btw.... the author of the article doesnt know how to spell airport. check the headline..... doh.gif thai journalist? huhuhu

if it is transit they will probably divert you to the other airports in the area. like the one MAS, air asia, firefly are all using. also they might transit in phuket or something. this mainly affects those that want to actually land in bkk i guess.
