Hello,

I would like to get some advice regarding a trip to Bangkok. I will be going there alone, probably a very lay-back trip. maybe half back pack/half vacation. Targeting to be there for 6d/5n during the Christmas week.

I've been reading a lot and checking out things about Bangkok. I'm considering to visit places, see the different cultures and night life, and enjoy food smile.gif . Not so much into shopping.

I'm considering to stay near khaosan road. Is it advisable to make it as a base for my 6 days trip over there? or split it between locations?

I will need to finalize all this by this week. Gonna book the plane ticket asap if all goes well.

Thanks for your advices.

it depends, will you be staying only in bangkok? if you are it doesnt really matter where your hotel is as long as there is a bts within 5min walk. if the bts is there then you can go anywhere in bkk traffic free.

Pandar loves the BTS too tongue.gif

Well, it depends on how much of BKK you'll be covering.  BKK itself is huge, if you plan to cover like a part of BKK then another part on the other side of the city, getting another hotel in a diff area can save you some traveling time

Erm, my tentative planning is in Bangkok, maybe towards the north side in Ayuthaya a while. I heard khaosan road no near BTS... so, probably it is a good idea to split my holiday into 2 place in BKK.

During Christmas Eve, is tehre any celebration around Bangkok?

I've been hearing a lot of stories about the safety to go alone. Since i'm a guy, i wasn't that concern until i listen to what they told me..about pickpockets, mugging etc etc.

hmm hotel not near bts.... is it special rate hotel or something? i think one near a bts will be much better. bkk is pretty safe, i been there so many times walk around at night with no problems. as long as you dont go to those sleazy areas you will be safe. but yeah lah. every city is the same. hehe. KL also not safe leh.

I don't think it is special rate. The reason why i choose that place is because it's near to khaosan road. I heard lots of backpackers will be there and maybe can meet new friends and travel together. Another location i've not decided but it seems that there is a night market in chatuchak during weekends. So, i suppose i'll stay nearby the area where i can visit the night market. I think that would be my first destination for accomodations. mayb after 2 nights, shift to khaosan road where i can visit the other part of bangkok(khaosan road area for the grandpalace, n some temples). And then visit Ayuthaya.

Any suggestions where to stay so that i can visit those chatuchak market and the surrounding area?

Yeah Xmas eve is generally a lot more happening then in KL, its a bit like SG's Orchard Rd.

And like Panda said, crime is normal everywhere, just becareful where you go to and how you keep your stuff.  But crime rates are a lot lower when compared to KL's.  Lets just say.. I feel easier walking about in BKK then in KL really =\

Erm.. Do you know where is the hotspots for this celebrations?

For the safety, i guess i jsut need to be careful not to offend the ppl over there.

For language, any advice on that? ie what is the usual words tha ti need to learn up etc etc.
For money, any advice on that?ie prepare small denominations of money etc etc.

May I ask whether do I need to get visas to travel in Thailand for about 7days?

EDIT: Got the answer from the web. Don't need to get visa if stay within 30 days.

Thanks.
