you can consider to take bicycle, then no need to wait for the bus
i cycle 2 days in kyoto, visit a lot of places that not accessible by tourist

thanks but I already checked that.
This is only a regional pass.

I want to go from Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka then Tokyo again. I was wondering if it's possible to buy 2 regional pass instead. Maybe it's cheaper?  hmm.gif
Like Kansai regional pass and JR East regional pass? But these two regions don't overlap. How to change train??  rclxub.gif
Have to buy a separate train ticket then?
*
Just buy JR Rail Pass. Jr east pass cannot bring you to Kyoto plus Kansai Thru pass cannot bring you back to Tokyo.

Summer and Winter are not ideal for cycling.
Plus bicycle cannot simply park on road side. Have to park specified cycle park area which have to cost 200 to 300 yen per hour.
Bus still best option.

Dammit, didn't leh! The only corn I eat in Hokkaido is one snack 'potato corn butter' sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif
Yeah. Many major places in Hokkaido can get to by train and bus ... but the frequency is very low. So most people will recommend renting car to drive, or take tour.

Anyway our car rental costs ... around 1200km total driving from sapporo to otaru to sounkyo to asahikawa to jozankei to noboribetsu to hakodate.

▫ 8-day car rental ¥67,918
▫ One-way charge (for returning the car in Hakodate) ¥7,560
▫ 9-days Hokkaido Expressway Pass ¥8,700
▫ Petrol and Parking (estimated) ¥20,000

plan to go hokkaido next year Nov.

Hope you can enlighten me on this...

1) 8 Day car rental, that rate is cheap oo. what car is that? how many of you? I will be travelling with 4 adults 3 kids..
2) Your ETC is for 9 days... but car rental 8 days.. ETC have option for 8 days right? Any reason why u opt for 9 days?

Better don't hope for snow. It will be major Choas. Train will stop , bus will delay, everything will be nightmare.
Kyoto & Osaka should not have snow. If got snow also at freezing night only will happen and next morning after 9am will be no more.

If you saw white Kyoto means snow blizzard....that was nightmare!!!!

1) Toyota Allion 1.8. If you have 4 adults 3 kids I think you need to rent 2 cars.

2) Car 1 day rental is "24 hours" i.e. you rent today 10am return tomorrow 10am = "1 day." But the ETC pass is by number of calendar days; i.e. if today and tomorrow you plan to drive on expressway then you need to buy 2 days.

But actually if I look back, once I reach Hakodate I never drive expressway liao so I should have buy less days for the ETC pass.

the problem is, I'm going for 2 weeks. If I take the 7 days pass, maybe it's not enough. sad.gif

If say 4D Tokyo, 1D Nikko, 3D Osaka, 3D Kyoto, 1D Nara, and left over to other cities, then it feels like I need a 14D pass. hmm.gif

need to calculate if 2 car is better or 1 7 seater better. Petrol and ETC cost.
I will be driving for max of 6 days.

If i rent 2 car, i wonder if its ok to rent those 660cc 1. or perhaps something bigger to accommodate luggage.

Thanks for you input~ notworthy.gif
