i dont think the living cost is high over there.. compare this, if you have rm 2000 and SGD 2000, which would be better? i am sure if you get SGD 2000 u can have more purchase power.

i've lived in japan for 5 years before, and they say the living cost is high over there.. but each month i get to buy something cool such as ipod. in Malaysia, if you want to buy ipod, u have to save up maybe up to 3 month..

personally i feel that living in Malaysia is much more expensive.

if you go through agents, definitely they will charge you a fee , this including Singaporeans.

How tight do you think you want to spend for daily allowances will very much depend on you. I have Malaysian friends earning 1.5K having no problems renting a room by himself. Rent a room from HDB flat, no cooking (mostly). Of course share toilet with owner ~$350, not too bad. Unless you are working in business district area, inside shopping mall or Orchard road, things will be more expensive. Places where SGtel, M1 & Starhub operate, you will have to pay hihger prices for food and necessity. Or like someone else mentioned, cross over to JB to shop over the weekend to lower you cost. It is ONLY CHEAPER in JB simply because of exchange rate of ~2.3x. but the cost of living is not necessary higher than MY as I had mentioned in my earlier post. In some some cases, certain things are in fact more costly in MY than SG ... I wonder why...

Anyway, so many Malaysians had survived working in SG, don't really see a problem. If you ask me, as a Singaporean how to survive on $600/mth, I say no problem, I could possible have some surplus left ...why I so so? Because I experience it.. I am only talking about living within means with essentials and a little be extra

ic....just wanna know ...let's just say i settle down in sg already....what do i hae to do yearly? like paying tax and government obligations ?
*
hoho...just relax and enjoy...and exchange little SGD to much more RM for your parents.

Seriously, i had been in Spore many years, first few years earned too little and took part time course there (got tax rebate), no need to pay income tax. And besides income tax, I dun remember any other "obligations"...

But then how come I din pay the agent after i gotta job thru them? I'll say it depends lar. Most established agency only charge to employer.

And the living cost things...aiya, those who actually working and living in Spore will know the truth. Of cos "our" (yes, I was one of them, but I come back Msia liao) purchasing power when earning SGD is much higher. Those has wrong perception usually passer-by who "heard" from someone... yawn.gif

I would say the only few more expensive items in Spore are property, cigaratte, buatan Msia barang barang.

Dove shower gel: in Spore => +/-SGD10, Msia => +/-RM20
Kopi: in Spore => +/- SGD0.80 (at kopitiam), Msia => +/- RM1.30 (at mamak)
Colgate: in Spore => +/- SGD3.00, Msia => +/- RM5.00
Nokia N73: in Spore => +/- SGD600 (no contract), Msia => +/- RM1300?
LCD 32": in Spore => SGD2000, Msia => RM4000?

So, earning RM2000 and SGD2000 any different? Of cos!

doh.gif Sg is one of the safest country in the world.
I walk from mrt station to my Spore home at midnite, never worry of snatch of other crimes.
But of cos that doesn't mean no crime rate. But they are just low crime rate.

yaaah agreed...... me also had the expriences living abroad ...

giving the fact value dollar to dollar ... Malaysia can be expensive in some way ...
but the good thing is that ... local malaysia have the "choice"

so one need to balance the value of $$$ ...

eg : in SG /// to survive you need a basic SG 1500.00 pr month...
In JP = US 3000.00
IN TW = NT 15000.00
in HK = HKG 8000.00
in UK = UK 900.00 pound

and now in local scene of Kuala Lumpur ... one may need the basic of RM1000.00

...

Really depends on what you are looking at as far as living in SG is concerned. I lived in UK before and initially found everything very EXPENSIVE. However every weekend I went travelling around and get a feel of local life style and theier lower incomce group of people, where they shop, eat, etc.... In fact, I was surprised, I can even paid for things I find more expensive in SG even though the items were made in Chana. If earn your local $$, you will find the difference. My MY classmate is working here to pay his MY bank study loan. Settled down and work as a police inspector in SG... he is from Malaka.. he told me he had seen such advertismend in their local news paper.

Cost of Living is the amount of money it costs just to live in a certain place. It includes food, housing, etc.

singaporean says sg exp , jb cheap because of the currency exchange rate. like my frenz takes SGD1000 back to hometown during CNY...

by the way .... 1 question about transfer money ... let says i want to transfer RM500 everymonth for my car installment from SG, any charges for each transaction???

i bet there are maybank in sg right?

How bout workign in singapore with a family? Since housing is so expensive, it should be more expensive than malaysia right? I mean babysitter, a nice 1200sf condo and all would probably cost a bomb. Somemore with baby and all I'm pretty sure you need a car as well. I notice most of you are calculating based on a single working person and not family.

But in Spore gotta work hard/smart. Scrap the idea of getting easy and relax job with good pay.

Spore is quite pro family if u r the citizen or PR.
Condo at Spore cost from SGD1000~SGD5000, depending on locations. But why condo? Spore is quite safe, u dun need a guarded area. Their HDB flat is quite compatible to above average class condo in Msia without facilities, but they are cheaper at approx SGD1000 for 1200 sqf.
Their public transport system is very convenient, u could easily move around with baby. Even u want to get a car, I personally feel that most people can affort the monthly installment. The killing part are on those ERP, CBD area charges and parking fee.
Basically every housing area will have few child care centres for babysitting and kids. U will enjoy rebete if you r citizen or PR. I especially like their libraries that located at most big housing area. They have exclusive children section and open for borrowing of up to 4 books/card with one time off member fee at SGD10 or 20 only.
Finally, most Sporean could live comfortably with combine household income of SGD5000. I dun believe Msia could achieve that.

The fellow got caught bcos he torrent and distribute to hundreds of people.
If u torrent for your own, shoudn't have pblm.

But be careful do not "tag along" with other's wireless account even if the stupid owner din lock it up. It is an offence in Spore and there have been 2 cases reported.
